“Aren’t you angry at your manager for putting you here? It’s almost been five days. And yet you look like you’ve just settled in.” Robert was greatly interested. He’d met this celebrity before and the Oscar from before had always seemed fickle in his eyes, like someone that he wouldn’t be interested in at all. But the person standing in front of him had a completely different air about him. He seemed mature like a seasoned adult. Someone that embraced life for what it was worth.
“I can’t be mad at him, he did what he thought he needed to help me.” Oscar had accepted that Jamie was a good person that had hit a dead end. Without any power or influence one couldn’t hope to help or do anything for those around them.
It was the way the world worked.
And when Jamie realized he was helpless he turned to someone that could aid him, that was all and there was no shame in that…
“Really? Well then, how about you come with me to work today? I’d enjoy showing you off to that CEO you risked your life for.” Suddenly Robert stood up and offered his hand to the man with a smile.
It had already been five in the morning. There wasn’t much time for either of them to sleep since the workday would start in less than two hours.
“Right, then…” Oscar had already informed Robert that he didn’t remember much of his past but he didn’t have feelings for the CEO anymore and that was final.
Meanwhile Robert had known Griffin personally and he enjoyed teasing the man, which was the reason he wanted to go into work and show off Oscar like a prized possession, like his own lover.
All for the sake of making the other man suffer even if just a little bit.
Chapter 3: End My Love (3)
***
Just as Robert had promised he took Oscar to the company he worked at. He was the head of a joint project with Starlight Agency which was were Oscar worked at…
The moment they stepped inside together there were all kinds of reactions, those that were impressed, those that were suspicious, those that were surprised…
Seeing a starlet that had nearly fell to their death a while ago walking around a month later as if nothing had happened. And with an extremely rich an influential man by his side none the less, it was surely a topic of gossip.
And then he saw him… the CEO… only Oscar hadn’t expected to see that person…
‘What is he doing here?’ Oscar wondered to himself as he stared at the man in front of him in awe. He hadn’t expected the person he saw in this lifetime to be someone he knew from his previous one…
“…buddy…” Oscar spoke in a low voice that slightly trembled upon seeing Griffin. The truth was that while Oscar was in the military he’d been asked a favor to one of his dearest friends, to protect her son who had been taken away… and now years later… he was the CEO that allowed for another man to die because of his love for him?
It was ridiculous, Oscar couldn’t imagine that the sweet child from back then was the same as the ice cold man standing in front of him right now, only there was no way to deny it, it was so painfully obvious they were one and the same…
“What did you just call me? Know your place.” Suddenly Griffin spoke in a hostile voice. After hearing him speak many of the company workers looked the other way and continued doing their own thing. None of them were stupid enough to disturb their boss since their jobs relayed on this man.
“Buddy! You can’t act so rude in public!” Oscar remarked, he dragged the man onto an empty conference room and locked the door behind him.
Because of the suddenness of it all Robert hadn’t reacted at all and simply watched it happen.
“What give you the big idea you lowlife?” Griffin had a cold stare that penetrated the other man’s soul.
“……!” Oscar grew angry and delivered a light hit on top of the man’s head, making Griffin fold over.
“Gh…!” Griffin felt the pain on the top of his head, grasping with both hands at the place that felt like it was throbbing.
“What’s the big idea? You used to be such a cute little kid and now you’ve grown up to be this kind of man? I’m disappointed in you buddy, I thought Marie would have taught you better!” Oscar continued to speak angrily at the man in front of him, scolding him as if he were his own.
“What did you just say?” Griffin felt the throbbing even more now. He pushed the man against the locked door and glared at him. “I don’t know how you found out about that… my mother’s name… the nickname that he gave me… this behavior… I don’t care where you found out but you better stop it before I become angry.” This was a threat.
Then Oscar realized what circumstances he was in once again…
He was momentarily blinded by rage and maybe seeing that familiar face of the other man made him lose himself…
But Oscar was no longer the military man from back then that had any right to scold this young man… now he was the person that threatened to end his life over the crush he had on him…
Such a ridiculous circumstance this was…
“…right I’m sorry sir, I will take my leave.” Oscar tried to turn around and leave but now he was pressed against the door again, his face and nose being splashed onto the door as if he were kissing it.
“All this obsession because I slept with you once… what an idiot.” Griffin’s tone was cold as ice and the demeanor that he displayed was nothing short of hostile. Oscar realized he’d angered the wrong man.
“What if I decide to just kill you off myself? Since you couldn’t even do that properly…” Griffin turned him around but then paused as he saw the other’s eyes were serious.
“Don’t joke about such things.” Oscar gripped the man’s hand and twisted his fingers to the side. Even if this new body was weaker than his previous ones, he still knew techniques that could work on anyone despite size difference.
As Griffin was contorting his expression in pain the other man calmly continued speaking to him like an adult scolding a child…
“Playing with human life, joking about a young man’s death isn’t funny… Even for dark humor you’ve gone too far.” Oscar’s demeanor and his cold black eyes looked unrelenting. “When the man you’ve wronged is standing right in front of you, and you can’t even find the humility in yourself to apologize or treat them gently… You’ve truly become a man that isn’t worth anyone’s time…”
As he let go of Griffin he walked out the door again. He wasn’t the actor Oscar in that sense… He wasn’t someone that would be bullied easily even if it was the CEO of his company. He didn’t care about contracts or anything, he was going to live a normal life after all this was over…
“Those eyes… that tone… this technique…” Inside Griffin’s mind ideas he’d never imagined possible were forming. Why did that small starlet remind him so much of… him? That man back then…
The man that saved him… the man that he thought he’d never be able to see again…. Why was it that Oscar was the exact same as him…?
“So? Did you have fun playing around behind my back?” Robert asked as Oscar returned to his side. Only then did Oscar’s eyes soften as he smiled at him.
“I wouldn’t dream of it! Besides isn’t he immature? I’d rather not waste my time with a man like that.” Oscar remarked in a calm manner, behind him Griffin had barely caught up and overheard that conversation.
“I see, well then after just another two months you’ll be free of this man forever. How about you join my agency after it’s said and done?” Robert suggested, there was no way to tell if he was being sincere here, but he definitely purposefully teased Griffin who had a shocked expression on his face.
“I’ll think about it.” Oscar gave his reply quickly. He didn’t actually want to join any other agency. He wanted to go and get the money he’s stashed away and travel to a faraway farm where he wouldn’t have to deal with the complexities of this world anymore…
“Haha…” As Robert wholeheartedly laughed they walked away together… Time flew by and that one month ended so quickly…
However…
“You’re really going?” Robert asked as he tilted his head to the side.
“The deal is done, isn’t it? Neither of us have a further obligation towards each other.” Oscar calmly said, in the past month, they’d slept, ate together and even had a few pleasant conversations. But at the end of the day it was all part of the deal they’s struck, so of course when the time had come he was more than ready and willing to leave it all behind.
“No, it’s just… I think you’re interesting, so how about you stay for a while longer?” Robert suggested but the other man shook his head and left…
After all, he had much more different dreams in mind…
Secretly Oscar headed back to his hometown and the place where he’d stored all his cash. He lived in a rather rundown place with easy entry. In fact burglars if they wanted to could enter and go out freely, it was also a place that sometimes homeless people would go and sleep at, but with time it became just unbearable even for a living quarters…
Oscar was a smart man, he’d build a secret compartment into the ground, where he stored all his money. The shabby place he lived in was purposefully because he never really was there anyways. It was just to store everything he found valuable in a safe place…
The less security you have on a place, the less anyone will want to rob you. It was common sense that most people didn’t understand…
It’s because people are afraid of losing what they have, thus they’d never mistreat it or leave it out in the open like this…
However Oscar thought it was stupid, since if someone wanted to rob you, they’d of course start with those that have multiple security systems and things to hide…
“Good, it’s all here…” Oscar also had a few offshore accounts. In truth no matter how much he worked and what odd jobs he’d been given he never had the time to use any of it to his own benefit. He’d been saving it for his old age, which never came…
But now that he was blessed with a new body it was the perfect opportunity to start anew!
“Little farm on the off skirts of the city… here I come…” Oscar was happy as he headed out the door until he heard footsteps. He wasn’t weary of people since he knew his apartment wouldn’t be a place of interest… until he saw who it was…
“What are you doing here?” Griffin questioned him with his arms crossed standing at the entrance way blocking his path… this had happened one too many times now…
‘I could ask you the exact same…’ Annoyed already Oscar tried to walk past him but the man stopped him once more.
“Are you connected to that man?” Griffin’s voice was more stern and angry than his usual indifference and coldness. “Tell me what you know. Where is he?” He continued asking these questions one after another but Oscar wasn’t paying him any mind and instead looked for a way to leave.
The window was his only option, he headed for it but this time Griffin was faster than him and grabbed him. Along with the small backpack where the man had placed all his valuables in…
“You’re not running away this time… This past month you were protected by Robert but not anymore, so now you will answer me.” Griffin’s voice was filled with such unadulterated rage.
Oscar struggled and cursed the fact he had a much weaker body in this life. He’d sworn he’d start exercising regularly the moment he gets out of this man’s grip. But before Griffin could utter another word, a knife was flown in their direction.
Oscar noticed it and flipped the man over pushing him off the way. He grabbed the knife that had been wedged into the wooden boards on the ground and stared back at the man that had thrown it.
“Aren’t you keeping your back too open now?” The man was an assassin and one that Oscar was painfully familiar with…
The assassin walked inside slowly and then headed to attack Griffin but Oscar swung the knife with precision and certainty.
“A bodyguard?” The assassin stepped back. “I wasn’t aware you had one… hm… change of plans then…” The assassin retreated quickly into the shadows of the corridor and headed out to leave.
Oscar stood there gripping the knife with all his might to protect the CEO… not because of any special reason… but he felt like he didn’t want to see the man die…
Well… maybe a small part of him still thought of Griffin rather fondly… no matter what man he’d become now, before he used to be a sweet kid that he valued…
“Just… who are you?” Griffin stood up off the ground and cleaned off his expensive suit from the dirt.
Oscar didn’t mean to give away his previous identity but he knew the man wouldn’t believe him even if he were to tell him. “Someone that cares about you…” Oscar said, his voice was clear and his eyes were calm…
