“I’ll be right there,” I say and give thumbs up to Kim, letting her know it is good news. After hanging up I collect my things and hug Kim before rushing out. Cheruton is not far so I walk there trying to keep my head clear and not get my hopes up too high. He is awake but that doesn’t mean he is exactly like he used to be. The trauma to his brain could have done some permanent damage and he might never be the same, if so, I have to accept the truth and make my peace with it. When I arrive, it is getting close to midnight, and I hope he is still awake. Otherwise, I will spend the night not to miss the next time he wakes up. I kick myself for not being by his side when he regained consciousness. I promised him I’ll be there, but I wasn’t. I take a deep breath before entering his room.
