Andre POV. Before the gathering Andre Winston, the alpha of the white tail pack who did not like it when outsiders interfered with his personal business, especially when the business involved love. As a leader of the White Tail pack, he rose to his muscular force of will. He was a strong leader. But he needed a mate. “Andre! Can I have a word?” Darius, the pack beta, the second in command, called out Andre from his court . Andre came out. “What is the matter?” He asked. “The council is waiting and you know what they expect from you,’ Darius told him roughly. “Yes I do,” Andre replied. “But might be sorted out this night at the gathering, don’t choose the outcast, because an outcast can’t rule,” Darius said, with an odd smile. “You mean Amelia?” Andre asked. “Exactly, just to be safe,” Darius said. Andre nodded and left. He got to the council chamber. But few minutes later, Andre walked out anger and meet Selena, the pack seer. “Why can’t I just be an alpha with no mate? Or choose a mate myself?” Andre asked. “It is the moon goddess decision to decide who will please you, Andre.” Selena, the elder and the packs seer, spoke with the tone of steel. “The council need someone who is confident in the leadership position. The council will also not hesitate by force a choice of a mate by the next full moon; otherwise, your authority shall be challenged.” Selena said. Those words triggered Andre. “How dare they question me?! How could they turn on me after all the blood I had shed to protect them? And after all the adversaries I had defeated to merit their own lands? And now they dared as to question my dominance as the alpha male of the pack?!” Andre questioned, as he headed back to his court. It was growing late and the moon began to rise and with this expectation a pressure, like the storm before the rain came, crushing him. Andre came to the meeting, looking and presenting the pack with pure disdain in his golden eyes. Some of the wolves started to mutter to one another and cast ugly looks to him. Some of them were aware of the council’s requirement. They knew what he was supposed to do. But he would not be swayed. Darius was there, he bowed to Andre. “Darius why don’t you have a mate?” Andre asked. “I will have a mate, after my alpha does,” Darius replied. With a smile on his face. Andre left, the moment he moved away, Lucy Blackwood remained by Darius’s side and was pack warrior. “What are your expectations?” She asked. “The worst, and don’t be certain, the goddess or Andre will not choose you as the Luna,” Darius grinned. Andre’s attention, saw Amelia Throne. She was the lowest-ranking member of the pack, and she was small, thin, and wiry-fleshed, looking out of place at the best of times. Amelia was a constant reminder of that one weakness of the pack, and the inability to turn into a wolf at anytime one wanted to. Andre looked at her and his lip curled in disgust. A liability. A symbol of weakness. She was just as the rest of the pack: flawed, and in the way, and consequently, useless. But tonight, something, for the first time, was changed in her. Above her there was tension; a current in the air that wanted to ensnare his preternatural senses. Andre eyes met with Selena and he felt a momentary uneasy feeling. She had always freaked him out with her prophecies, and bizarre behavior which always gave him the creeps. Today her eyes were bright; tonight they blazed and he paused in alarm. “What do you see, Selena?” Andre frowed and asked, “Which…one?” His tone was low and full of tension. Selena turned and looked at him.”The moon is to be trusted, Andre,” she managed to bring out her voice to a whisper. “I hope it makes the right choice, but can’t I choose a mate?” Andre asked. Selena went on “It has its own will, its own agenda”. And tonight it has decided to act and to do so it has chosen the best for you,” Andre’s patience snapped. “If you have something to say then say it on the dot!” Selena blinked a little and shifted her focus from Amelia towards Andre then back again to him. “Two lives will be tied together tonight in such a way that alters all aspects of life from that point forward. The decision on the moon can’t be refused by anyone. A grimace flickered across Andre’s face, clearly visibly the beginning of a knot to form in the pit of his stomach. “Who?” he demanded. “What bond?” Selena shook her head. “That is something for the moon to share. But beware, Andre. The moon is not something that can be challenged.” Her abstract statements sunk in deeper into Andre, but he never got a chance to comprehend the message but Selena commence the meeting started. The wolves gathered in a circle: the darkness covered them as the night. Every one of them except for Amelia who had been standing aside looking anxious and shaking as she attempted the transformation for the second time and failed. But then, something shifted. All became silent; the moon cast its dreadful glow, as if it burned his very spirit to a crisp. Andre caught the look in Amelia’s direction as something flickered and edgy coursed through him. His chest tightened and the predatory glint in his eyes became fully apparent. “No…” Andre muttered. Suddenly, the thought hit him as surely as a lightning bolt. He remembered what Selena said. “The bond. The moon’s choice. It seemed only impossible yet the fact that it was done was beyond denial.” “Amelia Throne.?” Lucy questioned “The moon had chosen her!” Selena announced. “No!” Andre shouted with anger. The pack stopped abruptly and their gazes shifted to him, to meet the shock written on each of their faces. Amelia struggle, placed a hand on her chest and shouted a lusty scream full throated. It was branding itself firmly on her soul, linking her to him in a fashion which no believable denials could rupture. Andre fists bunched tightly and his whole body shook with anger and terror. “This couldn’t be happening. It was a mistake. A cruel twist of fate.” Andre’s blood ran cold. Hot blood rushed to his head before that cold voice came into his mind like a voice from the grave. “The marriage has therefore been consummated, Andre Winston. It’s also said you cannot run away from what the moon has said.” Selena said. “Nope, that’s not it for me, this cannot be allowed!” Andre growled . “How could I be bond to an outcast?” he growled low and menacing. Amelia glanced at him because his words had left her rather offended and hurt. “Why her?” Lucy questioned. “Why me?” Amelia asked.
