Rejected by her mate and betrayed by her pack, Amelia Thorne is left for dead in the forest—until Alpha Andre Winston, the man who cast her aside, returns to save her. But his rescue comes too late to stop a far greater threat: a shadowy predator that hungers for more than blood. As dark forces close in and deadly secrets unravel, Amelia must decide if she can trust the mate who broke her—or if she’s destined to face the darkness alone.

The Moon’s Cruel Joke
The moon was big and became heavy on the sky as it created ghost-like shadows on the ground of the White Tail pack territory, as the wolves gather to choose the next Luna. Amelia Throne stood leaning against the thick-barked oak tree at the perimeter of the site and attempt to blend with the darkness that was shed by the tree. Burying herself well and having learned to stay out of sight for so long, the pack’s oppressive states stripped her of her shields tonight. Maybe she is still scared of something or someone, she argued with herself, as her heart began to race. “Still breathing, Throne?” The taunt reached her then in a swift whisper from behind. Amelia didn’t have to look to know it was, Lucy blackwood. In Lucy’s voice, the wolf’s grin was quite distinctive. “You don’t belong here. You never will.” Amelia didn’t respond. She looked at her impassively and kept her lips shut not an inch interested in provoking her. “What’s the matter? Afraid? Or just too weak?” Lucy smirked a grab her mockingly, and the others cast occasional sneers and snickers. They were waiting, watching, hoping to witness the impossible. “It won’t happen,” Amelia tutted, the feeling of failure bringing her chest down. It never does. “Enough!” The voice was authoritative, ergo slices through the air as if it was a blade in a clearing. The pack’s leader took a step forward, Andre Winston and his golden eyes sweep across the crowd. The pack did not speak but growled and it sat in the environment like an electric current. He moved nearer to Amelia and glared at her with his glowing emeraldirised eyes. But for a brief second, what was unfamiliar, flared there a concern? but that too disappeared before she could tag it. “This is nonsense,” Andre said spying through the glass eyeing Amelia with disdain. He went on “You’re a waste of time, Throne.” “Andre,” Selena called out. She continued “Give her more time, The moon has its plans.” Andre glared at her. “It does not matter that the moon makes her stronger. She’s weak. So, if she has not changed by now I doubt if she will ever change at all.” “Give her time,” Selena said. “Time? She is not meant to be here,” Andre replied. Selena summoned the gathering, as the moon reaches it’s peak, as they await the moon goddess to choose a mate for the alpha, Andre. Amelia isolated herself. Suddenly, Amelia held her breath but before she could recover the strange atmosphere enveloped them. Initially it was just a private buzz, a quiet murmur of power but it built up momentum. The ground rumbled and the air became charged with something that could be felt but not identified. “What’s happening?” Amelia said very quietly, trying to suppress her quivering voice. The pack sensed the change too, their extra sense being able to pick up that change in atmosphere. Andre glared, his gaze bore into the young lady’s face, “Well, Amelia.” “It is happening, the goddess is about to show us, the new Luna, for the alpha,” Selena said. Selena gasped softly. “The bond…” she murmured. “The bond is forming.” “What bond?” Amelia wondered with her heart racing. “What bond?” Lucy questioned, she was in shock. Andre was in shock, so as everyone. “Amelia throne? A Luna, it should have been me!” Lucy thundered. The moon light shine on Amelia, as she trembles, giving a sign as the choosing one for the Luna. Andre was tensed. Amelia stopped in the dim light and it took only a second for Andre to tense up and clench his jaw. “No,” he repeated himself, and the alarm which lay in his tones was still unmistakable. “It can’t be.” “But it is,” Selena replied. “Bond to an outcast?” Andre growled devastatingly low. Amelia stared at him because his words pained her greatly. “An outcast…,” those words repeated in her head.
