Jason is still sitting in his car, fighting back tears that are running down his face. Jason talks on the phone to his uncle. "Uncle Ivan, I don't think I will be available to do this, it looks as though I just killed a young man, how can I separate the monster from the person?" "You have to my boy, have you not seen the mutilated bodies they leave behind, if you had let that young man live he would eventually kill an innocent family like they killed yours, so toughen up and do your duty." Uncle hangs up the phone and there is a determined look on Jason's face.
The next morning Jason enters the police station where he works, He is wearing dark sunglasses to hide the dark rings under his eyes that he got due to lack of sleep. As he walks into the office he is stopped by Frank, who is assisting him on the various murder cases. "Detective Silverman, we have another body and you need to see this one, this guy has an arrow through the heart!" Frank shows him a picture of the dead body, it's the volleyball player he had just killed the night before. Jason can't look at the picture and pushes Frank's hand away. Jason walks over to his captain's office, the door is open. Jason knocks on the door and steps inside. "Captain, can I have a word?" The captain is a large white man with a thick grey beard, he signals Jason to have a seat at his desk. "No thanks Captain, I think I'll stand, I have been thinking a lot about my future and what I want to do with my life, the last few weeks, I don't really have all the answers yet, but one thing I do know is that I don't want to be in law enforcement anymore." The Captain has a surprised look on his face. "Where is this coming from, detective, just a few months ago you were pushing me for a promotion, what has changed between now and then?" "I have changed captain, and I don't see myself here anymore." Jason takes his badge out of his pocket and places it along with his gun on the Captain's desk. "The captain has a look of disappointment on his face and takes the items from his desk. "Are you sure about this, if you leave now, there is no coming back?" Jason turns around and leaves the office, he walks past Frank who has a confused look on his face, and walks out of the police station.
Jason gets into his car and starts the ignition, as the car idles he thinks to himself "I had to do this, if I am going to be a hunter, I will need to have no laws, policies, or procedures holding me back from my mission." He feels as though a weight has been lifted from his shoulder and he lets out a long sigh of relief. Jason drives off towards the countryside, as he drives along the long road he thinks back to the two werewolves he killed and how vastly different people they were. One of them was a killer ready to end his life, the other one was confused and just trying to get away and survive. He shakes away his doubts and tells himself. "They are all unnatural regardless and need to be sent back to hell from where they came!"
Jason arrives at his uncle Ivans's house and knocks on the door, as sound comes from inside the house "Who is it?" "It's me uncle Ivan, Jason." Uncle Ivan opens the door and lets him in. Uncle goes back to sit on the chair from where he stood up from. On the floor next to his chair are half a bottle of whiskey and an empty glass. Uncle Ivan picks up the glass and bottle and pours him a drink. "When did you start with that bottle uncle Ivan, before sunrise, it's only 11 am!" "Don't tell me how to live my life and I won't tell you how to live yours, so tell me what brings you to my door so damn early anyway." "I'm just a bit shook still about last night's hunt, do all werewolves know about hunters? because that guy was so shocked, he asked me why with his dying breath." "Let me tell you something my boy, in every war, there is such a thing as collateral damage, some people will get caught in the crossfire and make no mistake this a war that we are in between us and the unnatural of this world, werewolves are just one of them, they are the easiest to spot but there are other creatures hiding among us who deserve the same fate as the werewolves ." Uncle Ivan gets up from his chair and drunkenly walks into his room, he rummages through his stuff for a minute and comes out with a large ancient-looking book. he puts it down on the coffee table in front of him. "What's this?" "It's time you got to really know your enemy." "Uncle Ivan I was living with you for three weeks, you taught me how to track and hunt, why didn't you show this to me then?" "I didn't want to overwhelm you and I thought you might not be ready.?" Jason opens the book, the pages are worn and damaged from age, in the book he sees sketches of various creatures thought to be mythological, from werewolf to minotaur. "These are all real creatures living today, not just werewolves?" "They are all real my boy and we need to find them all before it's too late." Jason's phone rings, it Jessica "Hi, were you?" "I'm here at my uncle for the day." "Oh, I thought you would be working." "No, I took a sick day, though Id visit." "You and your uncle have gotten really close, that's nice." " We share the same interests." "There is a fair at one of the high schools close by, you want to go and act like a child with me?" Jason laughs quietly "Sure why not, can I meet you there?" "Sure, ill text you the details."
Uncle Ivan looks at Jason with a serious look on his face. "Are things between you and that girl getting serious?" "I don't know I really like her, but I don't know where I stand with her really." "If you are going to be a hunter, you will have to make sure things are serious or you cut her off before she becomes a liability, these monsters have no heart and they will hurt or kill anyone close to you to get to you." There is an ominous silence in the room and Jason starts to page further through the book.
Jessica arrives at the fair, the sun is about to set and there is a festive cheer in the air, People are eating delicious foods and the Ferris wheel can be seen spinning in the background. Jessica has a big smile on her face as waits for Jason to meet her. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees eye couple laughing as the man is tossing rings to win a stuffed animal. Jessica takes a closer look and sees that it's roger with a beautiful woman with short black hair. Roger wins the stuffed toy and presents it to the woman, she smiles broadly and kisses him on the cheek. They leave that booth and walk in her direction. Roger looks in her direction and recognizes her, he has a surprised look on his face as they walk up to her. "Hi Jessica." Jessica greets him back. "Hey, how are doing." "I am great, this is Ava, Ava this is Jessica." Ava shakes Jessica's hand and there is an awkward silence between them, suddenly a voice from behind them breaks the silence "Jessica!" It's Jason and he walks over towards them as he gets closer Ava starts to shake and struggles to catch her breath as she hyperventilates, she grabs hold of Roger's arm and squeezes it tight. Jason gets closer and Roger starts to feel a wave of anxiety come over him, his breathing gets quicker and sweat beads form on his head. Jason stares at Roger and Ava and he looks down at his pendant that is hanging inside his jacket and it's glowing brightly.
