The alarm goes off, Jessica swings her hand onto the top of her phone from under her duvet, hoping that it's enough to switch off the noise coming from the phone. The rays of the Saturday morning sun cut through the curtains, partially blinding her, she holds up her hands to shade her face. "What to do with me today? Roger would be knocking at my door or making breakfast already, I need to get him off my mind. It's for the best, that relationship was nothing but trouble, I know he said he would never hurt me, but that was Roger the human speaking, what about Roger the werewolf? I need a distraction." A messenger alert goes off on Jessica's phone, Jessica smile as she looks at her phone: [ Hi it's Jason, you said when we last spoke that you've never been wine-tasting, I need to go see some family today in that area, you wanna ride along?] Jessica is surprised to see the message on her phone, she did feel some kind of attraction developing but she never thought he would feel the same way. "Wow, maybe this is exactly the distraction that I need." [Hi, this is a surprise, sure that will be great!] [Great, I'll pick you up in an hour] Jessica jumps out of bed, she is excited for the first time in months, she gets ready and puts on a beautiful sundress that goes just above her knees and also puts on a hat and scarf with some sunglasses. She heads down to the building entrance and sees Jason standing across the street, leaning against his sport's car that looks really expensive. He is looking really handsome, his beard and hair are perfectly groomed around from the top of his head to his around his jawline, he is wearing tight blue jeans and a white T-shirt with a black leather jacket that compliments his dark ebony skin. Jessica walks over to Jason while admiring his car. "Nice car, are you sure you're a detective?" Jason laughs and jokingly replies "I know a guy." Jessica and Jason drive down towards the Stellenbosch Winelands, It's a beautiful sunny day, as they get closer to the mountains Jessica is amazed at the natural beauty as lines of vineyards cover the hills around her. They drive for over an hour and Jason points out points of various interest to her as if he was a tour guide. Jason pulls into a wine farm and they drive up to the main house, an older white man runs to greet them. He is dressed in a shirt and shorts that cover his knees and a sun hat. Jason and the man greet each other in their native language of Afrikaans. Jessica just looks on, not understanding a word of their conversation as they laugh and hug each other. Jason looks over to Jessica "Dad, this is my friend Jessica, she has never been to a wine tasting so I thought I would bring her to the best winemaker in the country. Jessica this is my adoptive father Henry." Jessica reaches out to shake the man's hand but he rushes in to hug her speaks in a thick accent. "Don't be so formal, we're all family." Jessica is taken aback by the hospitality and laughs out loud. Henry directs them to the house and looks at Jessica. "Before you can taste you must know the story of the wine and see where it comes from." Henry takes them around the side of the house and they walk towards the long stretches of vines growing nearby. There are bunches of large red grapes hanging off the branches. There are people busy harvesting and tossing large tubs of grapes into another larger tub, in this large tub there are people stomping the grapes at the bottom of the tub the grape juice is collected into pales and carried off. they walk over to a wine cellar, Jessica is caught off guard by the size of the wine cellar, there are hundreds of wine barrels stacked on top of each other." Henry points out to the barrels "This is where the wine matures before it's bottled and matures further. some will stay here for years, the longer the better." A worker brings over a barrel covered by a table cloth, places a plate with various types of cheeses on the barrel and brings 3 bottles of wine, some glasses, and a long-nosed glass beaker. Henry opens the wine and slowly pours it into the long-nosed beaker. Jason whispers into Jessica's ear "That's called decanting." Jessica stares intently at Henry's hands as he pours the red wine "It's so red, like blood." They continue the wine tasting and laugh and eat cheese for a while, Jason interrupts the proceedings "Dad it's getting late, I need to go see uncle Ivan and then take the lady home at a decent hour." Henry hugs Jason and Jessica and they make their way back to the car. It's almost sunset as they get into Jason's car, Jessica looks at the beautiful picturesque view as the sun sets over the vineyard hills. 'I had a wonderful time Jason thank you, my first wine tasting, it was really an experience, where to now?" I just need to go see my uncle who lives in the town close by, he called me yesterday and asked to see me." "Ok" Jason drives up to his uncle's house, it's getting dark and the moon is high up in the sky. They walk up to the door and knock, His uncle Ivan opens the door, he looks at Jason with an angry look n his face, his attitude is the total opposite of what Jason's dad was, he looks at Jessica "Who is this?" Jason smiles and answers "This is my friend Jessica." Ivan rudely interrupts him "She waits outside!, what I am about to tell you stays in the family!"
