Alpha Games

"i see the moon, the moon sees me, the moon sees the one i want to see" my mother sings the old nursery rhyme i have heard million times. However this time it sounds different..almost sad.  She runs her long slender fingers though my blonde locks as i snuggle closer to her warmth. My father's loafers click as he crosses the stone floors  of his main office to the fireplace.  Striking a match he tosses it into the woodpile and the heat radiates through the room giving the walls a pleasant cabin feel. Its Christmas Eve and we have just finished setting up the plates for Santa's cookies and milk.  "Mommy...do you think Santa will be scared to come to a house full of wolves with his deer?"   My mother and father laugh as she replies with " of course not sweetie, Santa knows we wont eat his deer and just between us, i have great knowledge that Santa favors the wolf pups the most". Giving my mother the biggest smile i could muster and making sure to show my tiny canines earned playful growl and a tug of my locks from my father as he scooped me from my mothers arms.  "Time for bed my little troublemaker, if you continue to stay up past midnight Santa wont come" still smiling i wrapped my arms tighter around his neck and i groaned into his shoulder "just once i wanted to stay up to see this Rudolph the other kids don't shut up about".  My father took the stairs two at a time on his climb to the 4th floor where the Alpha quarters are located. My room is the 3rd door on the right with a great view of the lake behind the house, from my bay window and of course private bathroom and walk in closet. Fit for a queen my mother would always say. Flopping me down into my ice pink fluffy comforter my dad kissed my forehead and ruffled my hair. Swatting his hand away he laughed briefly before my mother proceeded to insist i brush my teeth and handed me pajamas. Staring at my reflection in the mirror i could see my parents whispering to each other, i quickly changed then brushed . I was sure it was a secret, so i ran back into the room and pulled on my mothers dress hard enough i almost pulled it down. Scolding me my father asked what was the big hurry in attention for.  " i just wanted to know what ya'll was whispering about, is it something Santa told y'all i wanted for Christmas?" i haven't told anyone what i wanted yet. My father scooped me up onto his hip and whispered in my ear " you will have to wait til morning". groaning again i mumbled how i'd be a big girl and know all the secrets soon. " yes, you are growing up so fast already". my mom sniffled while she wiped a stray tear from her eyes as dad laid me down in the bed and covered me up. "sleep tight don't let the bed fleas bite" my dad always the joker, mom smacked his head as she reassured me we didn't have bed fleas.   After saying their good-nights and multiple kisses and tickles they left my room and closed the door softly. i waited for the steps to disappear and the door to their room to click before jumping up and running to my window. " moon since you see me please oh please for Christmas all i want is a little sister...please oh please Moon thank you and goodnight". Satisfied with my little prayer i nodded to myself and kissed my two fingers and pressed them to the window.  Taking one last look at the snow capped land and the shimmer of moon on the lake i climbed back into my soft fleece sheets with a happy sigh i drifted off to sleep. ~~~~~~~
