Chapter Ten
A Change in Plans
Catherine awoke in the middle of the night, feeling nauseous and with some cramping in her abdomen. At first, she thought her pregnancy was the cause, but what she felt then was something new to her. She woke Sam. “Sam, wake up. I don’t feel well.”
Sam waked immediately. “What’s wrong, Catherine? Is it the babies?”
“I don’t think so. It must have been something I ate for dinner. Take me to the bathroom, please.”
He got up, helped her get out of the bed, and supported her as she made her way. She immediately knelt in front of the toilet and leaned over the bowl. She quickly expelled her entire dinner as Sam held her tenderly. When she finished, Sam wiped her face and neck with a cool, wet washcloth while he continued to hold her.
