D Coy. casualties for the past month were relatively light, with the reaper taking only three, whilst 15 of our ranks were wounded and 58 recover from illness in hospital. What war does to one, when I can consider the loss of three lives to be a blessing. Yet it is.
Two were lost just this week when their patrol was contacted in No-Man’s Land. Bill Coggins was killed outright. The scout alongside him said the round caught poor Bill right between the eyes and all he was able to do was to take Bill’s tag and clear his pockets before he was forced to withdraw or face the same fate.
