I watched Laura dance wildly on the dance floor, moving her hips to the loud music against some strange man that joined her. She was too drunk to care that another man had his hands on her. I would probably have to fight him away later. I sat at the bar sipping my s*x on the Beach and looking down at my phone every time I thought it vibrated. It never did. The loud music shook the bar like a small earthquake. Greg hadn't messaged me all day and I was hoping he would get my messages and join me here so I didn't feel so out of place. This was Laura's typical scene but not mine. I just wanted to be laying in bed in Greg's arms. "Don't feel like dancing?"
I looked over to a very attractive man sitting a couple stools away. He had a dark drink in his hand and his hazel eyes were locked on me. I forced myself to look away, a smile on my face. After a minute he moved next to me. "Are you here alone?" He shouts over the music. I look back at him.
"No. My friend is with me." I shot a glance over my shoulder at Laura, who was locking lips with the strange man she had been dancing with. I shook my head.
"That's your friend?" He laughed. "You don't look like the type that comes to these types of clubs."
"Oh yeah? What's that supposed to mean?"
"Take no offence! I only meant that in a good way! You just seem more down to earth than your friend over there!"
I smiled, taking a bigger drink from my glass. "It's not my scene! I'd rather be home cuddled on the couch with my cat!"
He laughed. If his smile wasn't beautiful enough, his laugh hypnotized you into a trance. This man was truly God like. "I didn't catch your name!" He leaned in.
"Listen, I'm seeing someone and I don't think being on first name basis is something I'm interested in! You're very nice but I'm probably going to leave!"
"Fair enough!" He drank the rest of his drink in one swig. "I hope to see you around sometime! Maybe we can catch a drink! As friends, of course!" He winked before pushing his self from the bar and disappearing out the back of the club. I shook my head, holding onto my smile.
"Who was that?" Laura shouted at me as she stumbled her way to the bar.
"No one!" I shouted at her. "Are you ready to go? I'm getting tired!"
"What? We just got here like an hour ago! Stop being a slug!"
"I'm not being a slug! I'm just not feeling well!" Laura stuck out her bottom lip, swaying on her feet. She tossed an arm around my shoulder.
"Okay, bestie! We can go! Let me say bye to my friend!"
I rolled my eyes. "I don't think Justin would like that very much!"
My bed was warm and cozy. The sound of the t.v in the background soothed my aching head. I had to force Laura in a cab and pay the cab driver to get her home safely. She texted me when she got home but I haven't heard from her since. She probably fell asleep on her living room floor...Again. My cat, Tarot, climbed up on my bed and stretched out next to me. I ran my fingers through her long white fur and sighed against the silence. "Am I crazy?" I asked her as if she was going to reply.
She payed no attention to me as she cleaned her paws. I looked at my silent phone again. It was midnight and not a text or call from Greg. I decided to check out The Black Witches Coven website to do more research on the girls. There was little about them. They seemed to take their privacy seriously. The spells page was full of white magick along with black magick, a vast variety of both. One spell under "Love Spells" caught my attention quickly.
Come to me Spell- A spell to bring your lover to you at a moments notice.
There were a dozen come-to-me spells but one simple one caught my eye. All that was needed was a bay leaf and a drop of blood. Could it be that easy? I climbed from bed and went into the kitchen where I pulled out a small container of bay leaves I had picked up for simple spells. I pulled one out and set it on the counter. I grabbed a pen and wrote his name on it then searched through my junk drawer until I found a safety pin. Hesitant, I pressed the pin against my finger. Slowly I pressed the sharp pin into my finger until I felt it poke through the skin and blood dripped down. I groaned as I held it over the bay leaf until a drop fell onto it. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, trying to clear my mind of it's usual busy nature.
I grabbed my lighter from my bag and began burning the leaf.
"Come to me. Come to me. Come to me."
I chanted. The silence that fell over me was that kind of silence that pounded at your eardrums. The distant sound of the t.v faded out and it was like all the sound in the world was turned off. I looked around my dark apartment, my heart starting to beat fast against my chest.
I jumped and screamed when Tarot jumped on the counter, meowing at me. "Damn it, cat!" I leaned over the counter to gather myself. I was driving myself insane with these spells. I was going to lose my mind before the night ended. I stood up, sticking my tongue out at Tarot before dragging my feet back to my bedroom and switching the t.v off. I was suddenly too tired to care if Greg showed up or not. This whole thing was silly.
A knock at the door startled me awake. My eyes shot open to my dark bedroom, an eerie feeling falling over me. I glanced at my alarm clock on my bed stand. It was two in the morning. Who could be at the door? I pushed myself from my bed, slipping on my slippers as I rubbed my eyes. "I swear to God if that's you Laura I'm going to leave your drunk ass out there to sleep," I said as I made my way to the door. I blinked out the sleep from my eyes and peeked through the peep hole. But no one was there. Tarot's paws hitting the floor distracted me for a moment as she ran up and sat behind me. Suddenly I became frightened. Again, a knock came from the other side of the door.
Shaking, I reached for the knob and slowly turned it. The door creaked open like it would have in a horror movie. I've got to stop watching so many horror movies! The hall was empty. I just stood there in a frozen state. "BOO!" Greg jumped out from behind the wall.
I jumped back a few feet, holding in a terrified scream. "What the hell!" I whispered loudly, trying not to wake the neighbors. "What the f**k, Greg! You scared me!"
He laughed, showing off his gorgeous smile. "That was the point." He leaned against the door frame.
"What are you doing here this late? It's two in the morning." I tried taking slow breaths, slowing my heart rate.
"I felt bad I couldn't reply to your messages. I just got out of work. They had me there late dealing with something."
"Is everything alright?" I asked.
"Yeah, nothing I can't handle." He looked at me with a sexy smirk on his face. "May I come in?"
"Y-yeah..." I stepped aside to let him in. As he entered, Tarot took off running, disappearing somewhere to hide. She never liked strangers. I closed the door behind us and went to the kitchen for a glass of water.
"Did I wake you?"
"Yes...But it's okay. Not like I don't have to be up early or anything."
"I'm sorry. Do you work in the morning?" He leaned against the counter as I chugged my water, easing my dry throat.
"Yeah. I've got a few ethnicizations to do. Sometimes I really hate my job," I groaned.
"Then quit."
"I can't just quit the only job I have. I don't even work full time hours. It's hard enough paying rent here."
"Let me take care of you." Our eyes locked. Was he serious? "Come on. You know I don't ever let my woman struggle. Let me help you." He grabbed my hand and pulled me to him. His hand swept the hair from my face.
"That's a lot to take on, Greg. I'm not going to let you take over my responsibilities. That's asking too much!"
"No, it's not. I'd love to take care of you the rest of your life. Don't be stubborn."
"Stubborn?!" I raised my eyebrows at him.
"You've always been stubborn!" He laughed.
"It's so good to know what you really thought of me all these years!" I teased. He smiled, brushing his lips against mine ever so softly.
"That's what I like about you. You can take care of yourself. But that doesn't mean I have to let you." He held me against him and in that moment there was only us. It felt so right. "Marry me."
I pulled away quickly. "What?!"
"Marry me. I've dreamt of you being my wife since we were kids. I'm so in love with you, Nevaeh. I don't ever want to lose you again." Marry him? My body went numb and those words kept repeating in my head but just didn't make sense. Having Gregory for myself was always a fantasy of mine but marry him? That was something straight out of my own fairytale.
"Yes," I whispered, my eyes burning with tears.
"Yeah?" His smile widened.
I nodded my head. "Yes!" I threw my arms around his neck and smashed my lips to his.
