Chapter 48 - A gift of thanks

2769 Words

“Come on Dex, we’re going to be late.” Charlie yelled up the stairs, standing with Marcus by the front door. When she had woken up that morning and saw him lying crooked on the couch, she had guessed he had had a bad sleep before he even opened his eyes, though that didn’t prepare her for the dark rings that weighed heavy around his eyes. Charlie wondered how rough his trip to Crescent Night had been and felt a bit guilty about keeping him up late last night, but she promised to make it up to him with some ice cream. “Stop yelling.” Dex grunted as he thudded down the stairs, his hand cradling his head. “Aw, come on Dex. Put a smile on your face, I have the feeling it’s going to be a great day." “Because we’re having ice cream?” He pulled a face at her. “No. Just... because.”
