Infirmary

“Milady? Come on now and wake up, luvana.”             Slowly I opened my eyes to see bright silver ones staring down at me. I smiled a little before trying to sit up, but a strong tattooed hand refused me.             “Relax and take your time, it’s not a race.” Kit said as he helped me.             I nodded and looked around. The entire infirmary was empty besides the two of us. “What happened?”             He gestured to the empty beds. “All of your kind’s females got sick on arrival, and our healers think it had to do with our atmosphere having something your planet does not. You are the last one to recover, luvana.”             “So, everyone else?”             “Already healthy again, it’s been two days since you went unconscious. I had them put your female friend in the bed next to you, but within a few hours most of the woman woke and were fine. You are the only one we worried about losing, one healer stuck by your side the whole first day.” Kit said as he handed me a fresh change of clothes.             I huffed as he helped me out of bed. “Of course, it would be me who almost flat lined.” I unfolded the shirt and moved to undress, then realized Kit was the only one who hadn’t left. I shook my head. “Are you going to let me get changed?”             He sighed sarcastically. “And here I thought you weren’t going to say anything.”             I rolled my eyes at him as he sulked out of the infirmary. As soon as I heard the door click shut I stripped off my old clothes and then realized what he brought me. It was a white wrap around sleeveless tank top with a pair of jean shorts that he must have gotten out of my luggage along with a bright red thong and white strapless bra.             I shook my head at the fact that he had even picked my underwear for me. How thoughtful, I thought sarcastically, getting dressed as fast as I could. When I was done I swung the door open to see a very lazy looking Kit leaning against the far wall. Like this, he looked very much human.             “Did you like what I picked out? I’m not used to your human clothes.” He asked as he gestured for me to follow him.             I shook my head again. “I see you went through my luggage. Did you find anything interesting?”             He shrugged. “I was told to fetch it, and so I did. Your arrangements of under garments is quite extensive might I add.”                “How lovely, I hope you never get to see them again.” I said sarcastically, following him through the building. Everything was so clean, like nothing was ever out of place.             His smile made me look away, feeling the red crept to my face. “On the contrary, I look forward to seeing all of those things.”             “Shut up, Kit.”                       “This is where you will live for now. Beth and another girl will be rooming with you until we build more housing for you and your people.” Kit said as he showed me to five buildings stretching over a mile.             They were actually quite nice, just a little crowded as of right now. I noticed people that weren’t on my flight and grabbed his shirt lightly.             “Where did all of the other people come from?”             He looked around as he rubbed the back of his neck. “There was another plane that was taken.”             I slapped his arm with a huff. “You guys stole two planes full of people?!”             “It wasn’t my choice, luvana! I am a Lieutenant not a Captain. They would have imprisoned me if I would have said anything against him.”             I sighed and looked around. There was close to two hundred people from both flights, but something still felt off. I glanced over and saw two Kajians harassing a teenage girl that was trying to get back into the complex.             “Kit.” Was all I had to say before he responded.             He saw what was bothering me and acted. Without thinking his gloved hand grabbed mine and led me over to the girl.             “Let go of me! Your leader said we don’t have to do anything you say unless authorized by a Captain or Lieutenant!” The girl yelled as she tried to pull her arm free.             One with bright green eyes and barely any tattoo’s squeezed her arm tightly in his grasp. “Saar here is a Captain, yeah, so just come with us and we will bring you back in a few hours.”             “Hey, let that girl go!” I shouted, holding out my hand for the girl to take.             The other Kajian that had pink eyes reached out to grab my hand instead. “You want to come with us too?”             Kit swatted his hand away as he wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me away from the Kajian. He didn’t look happy as he flashed them his credentials that hung off his belt. “The pretty lady asked you to let that girl go, I suggest you do it now or I will arrest you for harassment of our special refugees.”             They looked at each other and then back to him. The green-eyed one shook his head. “Come on, Reye. It’s just one human...”             He snorted in disgust. “And your just one Kajian, get lost or lose your freedom.”             The one with pink eyes glanced over to me and his arm around my hips. “Why do you get to keep a human? Everyone knows that our kind is-”             Kit put his free hand to his head. “They aren’t pets you idiots, they are beings just like us. Here I thought we had a good education system on Kaja.”             I took the opportunity to grab the girl away from them before they stormed off. Her hair was messy and her eyes refused to look at Kit.             “Are you okay? What’s your name? I’m Milady.” I asked, gently touching the girls arm.             She was barely able to look me in the face as she took a few deep breaths. “I’m Maddie Wallace, I’m okay now. Thanks for getting them to go away.”             I smiled. “It wasn’t really me, I have the same swing as you do with the Kajians. So, thanks Kit.”             He rubbed the back of his neck, not liking this attention. “No problem.”             Maddie looked up to him and nodded. “Yes, thank you.”             “Now that’s settled, let’s get you to your apartment before you get in more trouble, luvana.” He said leading us over to the front gate.                   Apparently, the girl Maddie was on the second plane taken, she’s also Milady and Beth’s roommate. While they passed through the gate, Kit ordered more guards for the human complex’s.             He showed us to our apartment, room 414, and went to leave. I excused myself from Maddie and followed him down the hall.             “Kit, wait for a moment.”             He stopped and turned to face me with a slight smile on his face. “What is it, luvana?”             I rubbed my arms nervously, feeling my body react to him without my permission. He seemed to make me feel like this all the time. “I wanted to thank you, for everything. For being the one to pull me off the plane, being the one to listen to me, and being the one to help me whenever I asked. Will I see you soon?”             His smile was comforting, but it also seemed like he was holding something back. “Anytime, and I think you will. Good evening, Milady.”             Then he was gone.
