Chapter One: The cracks of marriage
The cold wind blew in through the open balcony door, and the swaying curtains shook gently in the luxurious bedroom, as if some invisible force was eating away at everything. Elena Cattell sat in a corner of the room, looking out the window, as if trying to escape the cold mansion and the marriage she could no longer sustain. Three years ago, she married into the Rossi family, a world she never really fit into. Her marriage was arranged by Sebastian's grandmother, Victoria Rossi, a prominent business magnate who hand-picked Elena as the "right" wife to be the heir to the family. Elena had naively thought that maybe she could, with time and effort, win the family's acceptance, and especially Sebastian's heart. All this, however, is an illusion. All the days of their marriage, Sebastian's attitude towards her remained cold, and he devoted all his time to his work, as if Elena were only an accessory in his life. He never cared about her feelings, let alone gave her any emotional support. Whenever she tried to get close to him, wanting to break the silence between them, he responded coldly. Elena sighed and ran her finger gently over her glass of wine, which glinted faintly in the light. She had thought she could bear the coldness and solitude; after all, she had been under the illusion of love. But in Sebastian's long indifference and neglect, she gradually lost herself. To make matters worse, Sebastian's parents never hid their contempt for her. They see her as a pawn of family power rather than a truly respectable member of the family. At every family gathering, their cynicism always stung her insides. Elena tried hard to remain calm, but each night she carried these heavy emotions alone in an empty room. Suddenly, there were footsteps outside the door. Elena looked up and saw Sebastian come in. His expression remained cold and distant. "Elena, there's an important dinner tomorrow, and you have to be there." Sebastian, standing before her, said without emotion. Elena looked at him in silence, her heart tingling. Their conversations were always this way, short and formulaic, as if she were just an employee who needed to be directed, not his wife. She wanted to question him, to make him understand the pain in her heart, but she knew it was meaningless. "Yes, I'll go." She eventually simply responded, her voice flat as water. Sebastian nodded, then turned and left the room, leaving Elena alone to face the cold night ahead. Her heart was as fragile as glass, and every conversation with Sebastian, like a stone hit on it, slowly made it begin to crack. Elena put down her glass, stood up and walked to the window. She looked out the window at the night sky, full of confusion about the future. She had fantasized that marriage would bring warmth and a sense of belonging, but now she knew that only she could control her own destiny. At this moment, she decided not to wait, not to be silent. She will take control of her future, rather than let her family and her marriage continue to dominate her life. This is the beginning of Elena's loss and awakening in her marriage, and her growth and inner strength will gradually be revealed in the following chapters. What follows is an exploration of how she can free herself from this oppressive marriage and redefine their relationship with Sebastian.
