Miles away, promise from a burning bed “Well I guess this is it.” “I guess. Thanks for all of this Elijah. I know you didn’t have to do any of this.” “I wanted to. You are a clever, and gifted girl. You need more than my company can offer you.” I leaned forward kissing her passionately. I moved away. “I’ll see you soon angel.” “Mmm.” “And you’re never getting that divorce.” ‘We shall see.” She mumbled, shutting the door behind her. “Yes we shall.” I said to myself as I closed the car door, and pulled away. She'll never get what she wants, I’ll make sure of it. Alaina “And you’re never getting that divorce.” Those were the last words I remember him saying to me. We shall see. Now I’m here I’m determined more than ever to get my degree and go alone with no Elijah in my way. I will get that divorce I won’t think twice about it. I hate him. He's proved he isn’t husband material by a long shot. He will never scare me into staying with him. I don’t need his bull s**t anymore he’s had more whores than I can count. I was not going to be one of them, not anymore. Well it officially the first day of university and I don’t have a f*****g clue where to go. This place is so big. Elijah had made sure I got an apartment close to the campus so I didn’t have to share a dorm with someone else whether it would be a boy or girl. I don’t get why? Was he jealous that I would find another person my age that would be remotely interested in me? What a f*****g joke, he didn’t care about who I was mingling with, maybe he thought I didn’t want to share a room full of someone else’s stinky undergarments or walk in on someone having s*x or masterbating. Like I care what others do. I’d rather share a room than be all alone. I’ve spent two f*****g years being alone in the s**t show he chose to call marriage, I would rather be alone than be with a guy like Elijah. I walked alone going to the front desk. The bubbly receptionist looked up and her dark curls hung over her face. I studied her name pin Trisha or something. “Good morning sweetie, how may I help you?” “Hi I’m Alaina Rivera and this is my first day and I really have no idea where I’m going.” “No problem dear, but first you have to see the Dean before I give you your schedule.” I gulped. “The Dean, but why, have I done something wrong? that I’m not aware of?” “No sweetheart he requested a welcome meeting with you before you begin your studies.” “Okay.”I gulped again. “Please take a seat and I’ll let him know you’re here.” “Okay.” I took a seat while she called it through. It seemed hours till he came out of his office though it may have been twenty minutes tops. “Mrs. Rivera.” I looked up and holy s**t he was fit as f**k. His piercing green eyes caught my attention and his blond curls that hung over his well defined face. Well everything about this man was well defined. “Yes sir.” He smiled and held his hand out. “Welcome to Thompton University.” “Thank you sir.” I said, shaking his hand. f*****g s**t, he had a strong grip. “Follow me.” I pulled myself up as his hand left mine. He showed me into his office. “Please take a seat, Mrs. Rivera.” “Thanks sir.” I said sitting down. He smiled, closing the door as I sat down. He walked over to his desk sitting down stretching his long legs out. “Elijah has told me about you. But, I’d like to get to know you personally.” I gulped. Swallowing hard. “Sure sir.’ “Please call me Mason. I am the Dean of this delightful university, and I hope you’ll be able to come to me when you have anything bothering you.” “Sure sir, Mr. Dean sir.” He looked at me, his eyes narrowed. “Sorry, I will Mason.” He smiled. “So, Mrs. Rivera Elijah has enrolled you in business management is this what you truly want to do?” He did what? “Yeah. I would like to own my own business one day.” “And what would that business be?” “Well I’d like my own fashion company.” “I see. Have you got any of your work with you?” “I can get it from my old college, they have it all.” “No need to leave the name with Trisha at the front desk, and tell her I asked her to get it for me ASAP to see what other courses we may be able to enrol you in.” “There’s really no need Mason.’ “Yes there is Mrs. Rivera I have your own interest at heart. I see Elijah failed to mention you did fashion at college.’ “I only inturned at Elijah’s company.’ “Yes he told me.” He looked at me pulling himself up. “I just can’t believe he married a young girl like you. You're very beautiful and intelligent which are the qualities he looks for, but I never expected him to marry. He's what you call a play boy.” I gulped. “You look kind of pale Mrs. Rivera, is everything okay?” Should I tell him? He seems to know Elijah very well. “He hasn’t changed, has he Mrs. Rivera?” I shook my head as a no. I could feel the tears emerge in my eyes. “Please call me Alaina. Mrs. Rivera is way too formal and I would rather you didn’t call me that.” “Sure Alaina, and I’m sorry for prying , but I’ve known Elijah a long time. He was and always will be a playboy he's dominating and possessive. He likes things to go his way and if it doesn’t he makes sure it does.” “You seem to know him well.” “We’ve been friends since we were five. We grew up together. We went to school together and studied together, though we studied different things. Elijah is a wild card. He doesn't care how he hurts people, I can understand if you don’t want us to talk about him right now but I’m here when you decide to.” He said, placing his hand on mine. “I won’t tell him anything you say to me that’s a promise, everything you tell me is purely confidential.” “Thanks, but I need to find the real me before I decide to open up about how I feel about my sham marriage to Elijah.” “I understand, but I will be here when you need to talk okay.” “Okay. Thanks Mason.” “My pleasure Alaina.” He said taking his hand off mine. “Well I must say, it was a pleasure to meet you Alaina.” “It was a pleasure to meet you too Mason.” He shook my hand again and showed me out of his office. Trisha smiled. “Here’s your schedule sweetheart and your map.” “Thanks.” I said taking it off her. “Oh the Dean asked you to get my work from my old college where I did fashion design and business.” “Sure sweetie.” I gave her the name and phone number of my college and she told me she’d get onto It right away. I smiled and thanked her and we said our goodbyes before I headed to my lecture.
