The Beginning in the End

I remember the that life changed for the town of Selma like it was yesterday. Sure anyone would be sus of humvee's that rushed the streets of town. It's like something of nightmares when it started. I was at the local park with James, my brother, and Steph, my best friend since we were in diapers. It was an average boring day. We always sat at the same bench in the park that faced the south opening of the park, it was our spot. "Guys, Mr. Roger's lost his mind today." Steph said, while she rested her head in between her hands with a very distant look. "Heard he attacked his wife. Sad the day Zeke's suppose to come back with Brendan and he has to come home to this" Steph's focused on something in the distance but no one really pays any mind to that. We're both focused on the looks that she keeps giving. No one really questions him because well, he lives right next door to Zeke and his family. Brendan is steph's adopted brother. They're a grade above us, while steph, James, and I grew up together. Zeke, he's an attractive guy, 6'5, body of a God, abs that are mouth watering, caramel skin to match his deep black hair, and green eyes that look like emeralds. We haven't spoken much maybe a hi here or a 'what's up?' there but I love those moments. I stand at 5'8, with the same tan caramel tan that zeke has. I have chestnut colored hair that goes down to my mid-back in curls, and I have an hour glass body shape, and deep blue eyes. "Ash, are you with us?" James asked with an eyebrow c*cked. "we're boring her again, maybe if I was zeke you'd pay attention." Steph game me a pouty face. "sorry guys. something about today seems off. I just can't place my finger on it." I say, now watching my feet with my eye brows scrunched up. "Mom texted me she got pizza and some movies for us to watch since we're not doing anything this weekend" James gave us his goofy smile, he always has it when he's planned something for us. Not that we completely trust him. James is the clown of the group, definitely someone that can cheer us up in an instant. "race you there!" Steph shouted already on his feet sprinting what would be a 5 minute walk to the house. James and I followed suit. We just made it to our house out of breathe but laughing. Now this is where things started to happen. Where our day took a turn for the worst. It's when they arrived, the military, the humvee's that raced towards the park we were just at. "Mom we're home." I shouted but got nothing but silence in return. At the time we shrugged it off. Why would we think that something happened? It couldn't be because mom worked in a secretive lab. No of course that's just something we naturally don't worry about. "Hey guys there's a note here from your mom." steph says from the island divider. 'Hey guys, your dad and I are staying late at the lab today. Don't stay up too late, enjoy the movies and pizza. DO NOT OVER DO IT ON THE SNACKS. Love mom'. "Hey what movies did she bring?" "Don't get mad, but I had mom bring us some classic horror movies. It's a week before Halloween let's get in the mood!" Mom was nice enough to get us three pizzas in case Brendan and zeke wanted to come over after they arrive. Now if we were being honest Brendan would rather spend time with his girlfriend of three years, and zeke probably had a party to attend. "Alright well let's get this party started" James smiled like a kid who just got his favorite candy. He and I might he twins that share the same features but we don't like the same movies. James is like a 6'3 teddy bear with a knack for blood, gore, and violence. I'm sure he was a serial killer in his past life, he's fascinated with this sh*t. The first movie he threw on was dawn of the dead. How ironic that is now that I think of it. Sometime during the movie I drifted off to sleep out of sheer boredom while the guys talked about Stacy, a girl from school they bother wanted. I must of been asleep for about an hour or two when I was woken up by James. Both he and steph had a look of terror but they were also curious. "Hey look out the window. Tell me what you see." I'll never forget this sight. it's embedded in my head for life. Molded who I now am today. I saw soldiers with guns pointed at our neighbors house. Our neighbor, John, stumbled out of his house, mouth, shirt, and pants covered in blood. He had a knife handle sticking out of his neck unphased by the metal that's inside him.. The most traumatizing thing about this was that dear old John had fallen sick earlier this morning. Suddenly our street rang with gun shots from every direction. The worst part is, I couldn't move from the window. I was glued to the spot, even when the door bell rang. I heard the commotion behind me. I heard James and steph screaming, I just couldn't force myself to move. That's okay though, I was kindly yanked out of my daze by one of the soldiers who had us lined up outside. "How many inside the house?" "Just these three captian. They don't have any symptoms either." "load em up then Cuevas." So that's the name of the kind gentlemen who yanked me from my nightmare. The next thing I know all 3 of us are being escorted into the back of a truck with barrels pointed at our heads. This trip is where things start to get out of hand. "James, Steph I'm scared."
