HISTORY DEBUNKED

The shaman took my hand in her hand, pulling me to her feet. I followed her closely, observing the scenes in front of me and taking in how the coven worked. They seemed enthralled with herbs and plants; one of the triplets was trimming a bush. She threw a quick glance at me and continued what she was doing. We moved slowly, mostly because the shaman had to lean on me. Her cane clacked every time it got to the ground, the noise loud in the otherwise quiet room. We got to the stream, and she gestured for me to sit. “Long ago,” she began, “the moon came down to earth to visit.” The origin of shifters. I was aware of this. “When she came, she encountered men, a rough group of people. She had not come as the moon; you see, she had come as a white wolf. Her fur shined so brightly, even miles away she could be seen.” She looked up at the tree and dipped her hand in it, swirling it around. “Look child,” she said. I stared at the water and saw a wolf very similar to mine. I knew it was Luna. “A king wanted her, and he was able to capture her with the help of a demon. He gave the king a stone, a red orb that could control the power of anyone he wanted. But the king didn't want her power, he wanted her to love him.” That was news. “Since the king was able to show he had no evil intentions for her, she gave him a gift. His people would be able to shift, transform into her likeness, and worship her. To be strongest in the night. And so shifters were born.” The shaman watched me, and while I stared into the water, I saw the moon return back to the sky and the first shifters worshiping her. “Alas, the heart of man is greedy. The king hid away the stone the demon gave him, swore never to use it to capture his beloved. And he died. Ever since then, the king reincarnated, always falling for the white wolf, they would rule as the strongest mates ever seen. A true mate bond from the Luna.” I watched different white wolves race with a dark wolf. They played together in the snow. Running and ruling. “There was peace, till 50 years ago, the orb was stolen. No one knew how, except that a powerful witch had helped. She stole the orb for her lover. To help him capture the white wolf. The white wolf never came again.” She said. My head was swimming with information. I knew the white wolf was rare, but I never knew that it was a true love bond that made her rare. Destined to die and find each other in every life. “22 years ago, that alpha of the Grey Wolves Clan attacked. It was the shifter clan meeting. He had the orb, and he had been using it to trap souls of the dead, siphoning their power, and he wanted the power of the strongest wolves.” I gasped out loudly, “Alex's parents.” She nodded. “Yes. Alex was only 7 years old, you see. And his parents died defending him. He was the target, after all.” I saw Alex as a child in the water, running away, everywhere burning. “Why?” my voice shook with tears. “Why was he the target?” “Because he was destined to be your mate,” her reply came sadly. I got up from the ground, my body shaking with fury. “I wasn't born yet. How did he know?” I questioned. “The white wolf's mate was shown to us in a vision, you see. We had no idea who the wolf was.” Still, that didn't explain why the alpha had attacked them. I was getting more confused, sick of the lies. My whole history, was a lie. “What was the alpha's problem? I asked. What did he want?” “He was the alpha that stole the orb, you see. He had hidden it, and it was slowly driving him mad. He couldn't handle its power. But he was greedy,” she dipped her head down. Tears ran from her face. “I had warned Alex's mother, but my warnings weren't taken seriously. It was just a premonition, they said. The triplets were still young.” I took her hand, a way to offer comfort. “A year. Later, she continued, the Grey Wolves Alpha was still searching for Alex. If he killed him, the white wolf wouldn't be born. He would be the strongest wolf on earth. I helped hide him. Away from the evil man,” she continued. “That is when you were born, you have been told your mother committed to’veah. She slept with a human—she committed a grave sin. So she went searching for a witch to help her.” I knew this part, the witch was not able to help my mother get rid of me, and somehow, the news spread that she had intercourse with a human and committed a crime. “That is not exactly what happened.” That piqued my attention. “What did then?” I asked. The Shaman sighed. “I had a daughter, Grace. Strong witch, blessed by the gods. She fell in love with a shifter, a shifter from the grey wolves' clan. He managed to win her over to their side, so she worked for Yomen.” Yomen, the alpha that hunted me. “But she saw the error in her ways, and he was completely besotted by her. She planned to run away. I got her letters.” A calm breeze brought pieces of paper to my laps, and I read them, seeing all the plans and the desperation she wrote it in. Tear marks stained the paper. I saw how she was apologizing to her mother, promising to right the wrong. “She stole the orb from Yomen, but she had no idea that he and the witch that was helping him placed them under spells. If they were ever to abscond, they would be overtaken by the madness.” She grabbed my hands. “Before she died, she met your mother. Pregnant, heavy with child, and from the evil pack under the siege of Yomen. She gave her the orb, in the form of a tonic to drink.” Oh, Luna! I started shaking, not liking what I was hearing. “Are you?” my voice cracked. “Are you saying?” “Yes, child,” her voice was firm. Her hands were cold. “The orb is in you.”
