“Help me. I’ll do anything you ask. Please, just get me out of here. I beg you.” I plead with the mysterious man in the shadows.

“Anything, you say? How reckless of you.” His deep voice echoed from the shadows.

CHAPTER 1
“I’m sorry,” I whispered, looking down at my hands that were covered in blood. Kevin sank his hand inside my hair and gripped it tightly as he yelled, “Sorry!? You’re sorry? What’s your apology good for when she’s already dead!?” She was Brielle Henderson, my mate’s lover. And I just killed her. Her blood was pooling on the floor as her corpse laid cold in front of me. “I didn’t mean to! I’m truly sorry!” I cried as Kevin tightened his grip on my hair. But should I be sorry? Brielle had been sleeping with Kevin despite knowing about my existence. “It doesn’t matter. I’ve mind linked warriors to come take you to the dungeon. You’re going to explain to them and everyone else why you killed the sister of our pack’s war general.” Kevin spat, then tossed me aside and walked out of the room. I heard him lock the door from the outside. It didn’t take up to ten minutes before the locked door was opened and five new people rushed into the room. Staring at the scene, they didn’t ask me any questions as Kevin explained the situation to them. “Brielle and I were talking, and she barged in on us. Assuming the worst, she went berserk and killed Brielle. I couldn’t even stop her because the situation escalated too fast for me to react. “One moment, Brielle was standing next to me. The next moment, there was a hole in her chest leaking blood!” Kevin cried out. Due to my lack of a wolf, whenever I experienced strong emotions and acted on them, I would go into a mode known as ‘Berserk.’ And afterwards, I wouldn’t remember anything I did during the period I went berserk. Sometimes, I embarrassed myself, and other times, I got violent. But this… This was the first time that I had killed a person in berserk mode. I still couldn’t wrap my head around my actions. After the newcomers digested Kevin’s explanation, they turned to stare at me with disgust painted on their faces. “I didn’t-” I began trying to defend myself, but I got cut off. “What a vile creature!” One of the warriors exclaimed. Another said to Kevin, “This mate of yours is condemned. When the war general returns from her travels, she will definitely kill her. It’s best you reject her, break the mate bond, and disentangle yourself from her.” My blood ran cold after I heard those words. An overwhelming feeling of fear washed through my system as I clung to Kevin’s legs. “Kevin! Please, don’t listen to him. I didn’t kill her. I mean, I didn’t mean to kill her. You know that, right? I’m sorry. Please, don’t leave me.” I begged. Kevin shoved me away from him and told the warriors, “I was already planning to. I would never spend the rest of my life with a petty murderer like her who doesn’t even have a wolf.” I heard the sound of something shattering. It was my heart. At that moment, I wanted to scream at Kevin and ask him why he cheated on me with Brielle after everything that we’ve been through. We’ve been mates for a year and I’ve put up with all of his abuse and assaults because I believed we were meant to be together and that the hard times would pass one day. But now, he was going to discard me without a second thought. I couldn’t stop the tears that were pooling in my eyes and clouding my vision. “Very well. Nip it in the bud so that we can take her to the dungeon and inform the Alpha.” Another warrior said. Kevin nodded in understanding and turned to me. Even though I predicted his next words, it didn’t stop me from feeling the immeasurable pain of our bond snapping and my heart breaking. “I, Kevin Nolan, reject you as my mate, Nina Claude.” That was it. That was all it took for my life to come crashing down before my eyes. As I struggled to breathe and bear the pain of the rejection, the warriors grabbed me from all sides and began dragging me to the dungeon to lock me up. Once inside the cold and dark cell, I began contemplating what would happen to me next. Even though my uncle was the Alpha, would he take my side and place his utmost faith in me? Even if he wanted to, his moral compass would stop him. The man was the embodiment of justice. The only thing he could do to help me was investigate the matter thoroughly. If I was truly guilty, he would punish me accordingly. If I was found innocent, he wouldn’t waste a second in protecting me. But how was he going to investigate thoroughly when the victim was dead, the only witness claimed I was guilty, and I couldn’t even remember the crime? As I pondered on those thoughts, I heard the sound of slow footsteps from a few feet away. The only lighting in the dungeon came from the small square windows inside the ten to fifteen cells here. So, it was only after hearing the voice of the entrant that I recognized who he was. “Nina…” My uncle said with his oddly calming voice. I crawled over to the front of the cell to look at him. He bore a complex look on his face as he said, “What am I going to do with you now?” “Uncle Derick, I don’t know what happened. I don’t understand how I could ever-” I choked on my words as my vision got clogged up with tears. “This is why I’ve always told you to take your medication,” Uncle Derick put his hand through the cell bars to pat my head. “Your mind has always been unstable… but to kill someone? Nina, I don’t understand why you had to go that far.” I cried as I said, “I don’t know either! Uncle Derick, help me. You have to help me. You’re the only one I have now. Kevin is- Kevin rejected me. Uncle Derick, I don’t know what to do. Please, help me!” He slid his hand from the top of my head to my right cheek as he said, “Kevin is strongly testifying against you. The pack is keen on your execution. My hands are really tied here. The only thing that I can do is wait for the war general to return. “When she does, I can ask her to pardon you and leave it to me to see to your execution.” A cold chill ran down my spine. “E-Execution?” I stuttered. Uncle Derick was strangely calm as he replied, “Yes. The punishment for killing a fellow pack member is execution.”
