Kymbre
I stared out at the horizon as dark clouds rolled in, thunder roared in the distance, and the smell of rain took over the air. As dark as the skies looked with thick dark clouds that hung low, it was a symbol of how I felt at this very moment. If anything else, I felt a heaviness on my chest that I just couldn't shake.
"Kymbre, can't you just do what's best for everyone. You knew that you'd have an arrange marriage. Then you rejected him three times. Look at us now, we have so many wounded warriors and hunters." Kendi sighed.
I turned away from the window, our eyes met and she looked away.
"Do anyone not care about how powerful this land is? The Solar energy here is indescribably powerful. I can lead without a mate."
Kendi looked over her shoulder, "If it's so powerful then how is it that only you knows about it? Share the power, sis." She challenged.
I rolled my eyes, leaning against the wood panel that made up the walls. I'm more than sure that I wasn't the only one who knew about the powers. But I couldn't speak on it right now, I need just a little more time.
"Alpha, your father wants to speak with you." Eze entered the room. "And he says you need to turn your link back on."
"I'll do no such thing and he can speak to me when I'm ready." I told him.
"Ah...I think you should go now. He was--how can I put it? Pissed the f**k off?" Eze raised a concerned brow.
You cannot keep me out, my precious.
My throat bubbled as a scream ripped through, it burned as if sandpaper was rubbing against each nerves. My hands sunk into my hair and grasped my scalp. As my knees buckled from under me, my hands graced the floor as I barely caught myself.
"Are you okay? Eze, link to the infirmary."
"Already on it."
Inhaling sharply, I stood up. "No, I'm fine." I clutched my chest tightly.
"No you're not. You need--"
"I said that I'm fine!" I snapped, "I don't bend so easily."
Kendi sighed, pulling me to my feet. She and Eze shared a look of concerns. I don't blame them, I have not been on top of my game but it's all his fault.
"I'll go see what he wants, we'll chat again later."
Kenndi smiled, "Yes, much later. Just remember to take care of yourself." She squeezed my hand.
Walking out into the corridors, I watched as unfamiliar faces pass me by. The pack house was meant for immediate family and important figures within the pack. My neck swiveled, taking in the new entities that started to take up space.
"Ugh." I groaned as I stumbled back.
I looked up at the person that blocked my way, he was littered in tattoos up to his neck. His eyes were...kind but yet stern in a way. He reached out, placing a firm hand on my shoulder to steady me.
"Be careful there, don't you have somewhere to be? I have to get my people settled." He said.
"Your people?" I muttered.
My eye twitched, these people were moving into my home? Into my pack? Without my permission when I'm solely--I'm the Alpha.
× × ×
"Why the hell are people moving into the pack house? They don't belong there!" I seethe as I burst into my father's office.
Sitting across from him was Enam and another one.
"Some changes are being made, have a seat so that we can talk about it." He said.
"Changes?" I questioned, my face scrunched in confusion.
"Please, Kymbre. I do not want to argue with you right now. Just sit down and listen." He demanded.
I did as I was instructed and sat down, the odd feeling of being watched drifted over me and surely Enam was staring at me. Ignoring him was proving to be harder than it needed to be. I tried focusing all my attention on my father's words instead.
"Our main branch will be changing, the pack house will be for the important figures and immediate family but as well as younger omegas." He sighed.
"Okay?" I shrugged.
His eyes shifted to me, "Alpha and Luna will have their own estate separate from the main branch." He announced.
"And when will we be living in our own estate?" Enam grinned, wickedly.
My heart sunk down to the bottom of my chest.
"I refuse." I choked out.
My mind raced with any kind of excuse that I could think of.
Your making me sad, love.
"No late of seventy-two hours." He answered.
Shaking my head frantically, I stood up from the chair. "What happened to protocols?" I questioned.
"Under certain circumstances, you, rejecting your Alpha three times. Proceedings has been fastened."
He looked frustrated, but I wasn't trying to make things worse.
"Do you accept these conditions, if not then you will be removed of your title and will be giving to whomever next in line." My father muttered.
"You think that Kenndi will make a better Alpha?" I inquired.
"Not Alpha, Luna. I do think so because she isn't so pigheaded." He spat.
Why not prove him wrong?
"Stay out of my f*****g head!" I screamed.
Enam and my father stared at me as if I was insane and I wasn't, I could hear his annoyingly smug voice penatrate my ears, my mind.
"What are you talking about?" Enam asked innocently.
"He doesn't have permission to use mindlink with me, so why is it allowed?" I inquired, looking to my father for an answer.
"I-- no, it's not me. I can explain that." Enam fumbled over his words.
"Speak." My father nodded towards him.
Enam glanced around the room, then shifted in his seat.
"Ever since I stepped foot in--no, since I've stepped foot on this land...I feel as if my wolf is outside of myself. I can't control him, he doesn't obey me." Enam spoke quietly.
My father closed his eyes as he inhaled deeply, he looked to me and leaned back in his chair.
"How have your wolf been acting?"
"I guess usual as ever, nothing out of the ordinary." I muttered looking away from him.
I couldn't admit that I haven't felt the presence of my wolf for over a year since the rejection.
"Look me in the eyes and say that." He instructed.
I forced myself to look up into his deep, honey eyes. "It's been a little over a year since I sensed her presence." I admitted.
He clicked his tongue before slamming his fist against his desk causing both Enam and I to flinch. The doors opened when the man from earlier walked in and my mother joined shortly after.
"What happened? We're too late?" He asked.
"Masego, explain to these two why there's an arrange marriage between our packs." Mt father sat with his arms crossed over his chest.
"You didn't?" Masego scoffed.
My father glared at him as a response.
"I Masego Dube, was a member of the Solar Pack. But I was mated to the Luna of South Waters. Unfortunately, I was in a relationship with a witch. Things did not end well, both packs were cursed." Masego sighed.
"Heh, you was screwing a witch?" Enam chuckled.
I turned to look at him, annoyed with the immaturity.
"To keep the curse at bay, I--we were to unite our packs and mate our first borns." He finished.
"And what happens if that doesn't happens?" I spoke up.
"Everyone, we all turn into wolves permanently." My mother answered.
The room fell deafening silent, I had to ruin my life for a curse that happened ages ago. It wasn't fair to me, to Enam but mostly to me.
"Continue reading the last part of the clause." Enam cleared his throat.
I turned to him then looked to my father.
"You have a year to get pregnant with a heir or heiress." He read off the paper before tossing it away.
"I refuse, I simply refuse to go through with this." I shook my head.
"Kymbre, are you really this selfish? Even if there wasn't a curse you'd still have an arranged marriage. More than likely it would be Enam either way." My mother joined in.
"Why?!" I cried.
"Are we done here? Wanna get drinks?" Masego clasped his hands together. "They're adults, somewhat, let them figure it out amongst themselves." He grinned.
My father stood up, kissing my mother's cheek. "I'll be home late." He murmured.
"If I recall, you and Luna wasn't all that fond of each other when mated. How many times did she lock you out of the pack house on purpose?" Masego laughed.
"My beautiful child, please. For the sake of our people, do what's right. You might not like it now, but you could change your mind." She pleaded.
