Lily woke up feeling like her whole body was on fire. She turned to the clock and saw that it was flash 12:01AM. She groaned as pain started to expand throughout her body. She stood up quietly trying not to wake her father and brother up. She grabbed a bag she had made for this situation. In her mind she thought that this was it. Her wolf side had finally woken up and was healed from the attack.
In her mind it was telling her to go to the lake. That she needed to get there fast. Lily quietly exited the house, not waking anyone up. Her stomach was starting to feel heavy. She felt like her body weighed a thousand pounds as she walked through the woods. The nerves in her damaged arm was screaming in agony at her. She could feel every scar on her body throbbing in agony.
She hadn’t realized that she had started to crawl through the woods to try and get to the lake. That's all her mind was screaming at her to go to the wolf. She had cuts all over her knees and hands. She could feel each sting as she crawled. She was feeling so hot. Felt like her body was engulfed in flames. Her skin began to feel raw with each movement. Her vision started to get blurry.
Her bad arm kept giving out causing her fall face first into the ground. Leaves and dirt were in her hair. Her face was covered in dirt. She pushed herself to continue to move. To keep going to the lake.
‘I’m almost there,’ she thought.
Lily could feel that she was starting to struggle to breathe. She had begun to drag herself to the lake. She could hear the water of the lake. She was so close and yet felt so far. The lake was right in her vision. It sparkled under the full moon light. So inviting and so calm. It called to her telling her that it would make her feel better. She got to the water finally and fell in.
The water cooled her body. Her breathing began to feel normal again. She stayed under the water for as long as she could before she felt her body telling her to air. As she resurfaced she took a huge gasp of air into her lungs.
Darren felt a pain in his chest. Something didn’t feel right. The sharp pain awoke him from his sleep. He turned to the clock and saw it was reading 12:01AM. He sighed and tried to lay back down staring at a sleeping Nina. But the pain only worsened as he continued to lay there. Finally he rose himself from his bed. He headed to the bathroom.
But something in his mind told him to head to the lake. As his own voice got louder in his head. He headed to the lake in just a pair of shorts and his letterman jacket. Just as he was almost to the lake he realized that the reason he was heading this way was because of his mate. Finally he had a mate and the mate was calling him. He ran faster to the lake.
By the time he got there he could see a beautiful naked person standing under the moonlight. He got closer and could see finally that his mate was a she and that her snow white hair was covering most of her body. She was drenched head to toe from the lake. He knew as he got closer who it was. He halted as he got closer and scoffed.
“You're my mate,” Darren said.
Lily quickly turned to Darren and her eyes made contact with his. Her eyes seemed bluer than what they usually were. Her snow white hair seemed to also become more alive compared to how it usually looked. He couldn’t tell if this was because she was his mate or because she finally had begun the change. He then noticed she had a pair of snow white ears and a snow white tail. But she was still in human form.
“What are you?” Darren asked.
“Huh?” Lily said.
She kept looking at Darren blinking at him in confusion. Her hands not realizing went to the top of her head. He could see her curves in full form. Her chest was bigger than Nina, and her stomach was more toned than what he had thought. He watched as her hands went from her ears in amazement. She was giggling as she found her tail.
She looked so happy to have her ears and tail. Darren watched as her whole face lit up in excitement.
“I have ears and tail. Just like she said I would,” Lily said.
Darren stared at her in confusion to her response.
“What are you doing here Darren?” Lily asked.
She looked up at him with her beautiful blue eyes. Darren dropped his letterman jacket onto ground before getting into the water. Lily tried to step back in the lake but fell almost backwards in the deep part of the lake. Darren grabbed her and pulled her close to him. He ran his hands over her ears and down her face feeling the softness of her skin. It was like he was trying to study her face.
“Darren,” Lily said.
She felt the electricity from his touch and knew he was her mate. She nuzzled his hand with her cheek. Darren was snapped back into reality as she nuzzled him. He dragged her out of the water and covered her with his letterman jacket.
“I felt my mate's presence so I came here. If I had known it was I wouldn’t have even bothered coming here,” Darren said.
As those words escaped from his lips he felt his heart break and knew that Lily's heart had broken too. He turned to her and wished he could take it back and noticed her head was down.
“Don’t worry I won’t tell anyone,” Lily said.
Her voice was low and shaky. Her whole aura had changed from bright and happy to being sad and lonely. Darren went to open his mouth but Lily just walked past him. He stopped her button up the jacket. He didn’t want her to walk naked through the woods.
“Let me give you a piggyback ride. Zach would never forgive me if you got hurt out here,” Darren said.
“No thank you. I don’t want to bother you more than I have,” Lily whispered.
Darren watched as she began to walk to their packs' houses. He kept a pace with her to make sure she didn’t hurt herself. She stumbled a couple of times but caught herself before Darren to help her. She was silently crying as they walked. She didn’t want to show how much his words had hurt her.
Darren watched as she got closer to their homes. Once at her door she tried to remove the jacket but Darren held her. She wiggled quickly from him feeling her heart screaming at her. Her tail and ears had disappeared from her. But her hair was still shiny and full of life. She handed the jacket to him not caring that he was seeing her naked.
Lily had already been naked in front of him in the water. He had already seen her whole body. The scars on her arm stood out more than usual. He could see cuts on her body. Her knees and palms scrapped up. Darren went to reach out to her out of reflex. He watched as Lily flinched from his touch.
“Thank you Darren. And I’m sorry,” Lily whispered.
Darren looked down at her blue eyes. He could see the tears she was crying. Her beautiful blue eyes were red and starting to become puffy and it was his fault and he knew it.
“For what,” Darren said.
“For being your mate. I promise I won’t tell anyone. Again I’m sorry Darren,” Lily whispered.
Darren watched as Lily quickly entered her house. His heart twinged in pain from her words and the tears that had started to stream down her face. He stood there staring at the door before heading back to his house. Lily watched as Darren left and quickly went to her room before her brother and father woke up. She stood in her room silently crying.
Her birthday had just started and it was already destroyed. She went for some herbs she had to help heal scratches she had on her body. She took a small mixture of Yarrow, honey, and Chamomile. She applied them to wounds before changing into pajamas. Darren got back into his room and sat at his desk running his fingers through his hair.
He was frustrated with himself. He hadn’t rejected her officially but it felt like he had in some way rejected her. The curtains were open so he could see Lily. Watching as she put on a pair of headphones before curling up in her bed. She clicked her bedroom lamp off and all he could see in her room was darkness.
He felt a pair of arms snake around his neck. Nina red hair became a curtain around him as she kissed the top of his head. He couldn’t get Lily out of his mind. So he did the only thing he could think of. Picking Nina up off the ground he brought over to his bed pulling the bed sheets over them.
