Zake
I must have lost consciousness because I wake up in hospital. I have a bandage around my head, which feels like it is going to explode and I have an oxygen mask on my face.
“Good morning, Sir. You are at Leap hospital. You were involved in a motor vehicle accident.”
I stare blankly at the human nurse before everything comes back to me.
“You have a head injury and sustained a multiple rib fractures. You are lucky to be alive. It must be a Christmas miracle”
That explains the pain on my chest. I don’t believe in everything else she says. Luck, Christmas and miracles don’t exist in my world.
“How is my Be…” I halt. This is a human hospital. I can’t blow my cover. These monsters might think that I am a discovery of a century and keep me in some laboratory.
“How is my friend?” I correct myself.
“Oh, the driver? He is in the ICU. Critical but stable.”
I nod and mime a thank you.
“May I please use your phone to make a call?”
I have been out for almost a day. I have to inform my Beta back home where I am before he starts to worry. I also have to move my Beta from this ICU. It would be a disaster if humans discover our secret.
“Certainly, Sir.”
This nurse sounds pleasant and very caring. Maybe there are more kind humans out there like my human.
I am discharged on the nineteenth of December. The whole of Leap is adorned with Christmas decorations. Flashing lights, trees and all. All this for one day. They cut down these beautiful trees for decorations and none of them see anything wrong with it. Humans are so wasteful.
My Beta is waiting for me when I arrive at the sanctuary.
“Alpha Benjamin is going to use this to his advantage,” he says after filling me in on what happened with the human slave.
“Don’t I know it.”
A few minutes later, I listen to Alpha Benjamin praise his daughter. I am waiting for his demands when Hayley walks in all dolled up.
“Alpha Zake! You are back!” she rushes to give me a hug. She sounds surprised to see me, but her entrance is obviously planned.
I move aside, avoiding her hug. I don’t want her scent on me.
“Your father was filling me in on the incident between Lebo, Lucy and that human. Thank you for saving my sisters, Princess Hayley.”
She smiles and seductively twists her hair.
Something about this story does not add up in my head. This woman is always dolled up. Stilettos, designer gowns and very long nails. I just don’t see her fight, let alone kill an eighty kilograms man.
Lebo has completely shut down, and Lucy backs their story, but I find it so hard to believe it.
“You are welcome. Your sisters are practically family.”
I clear my throat. I doubt that Lebo or Lucy see her as family. I definitely don’t.
“You can make it up to me by making us official,” she adds.
There comes the demand. I should have known. I raise my eyebrow at her, and she starts fidgeting with her hands.
“You know that I am crazy about you, Zake. I will be a good luna.”
This woman just never gives up.
“Ask for anything else but that. Only my mate will ever be my Luna,” I say slowly and hope that she gets it into her thick skull.
She repeatedly blinks her eyes like someone about to cry, and her father jumps in. I guess that was meant to pull at my heart string, except I don’t feel anything for her.
“Hayley saved your only family,” Alpha Benjamin reminds me.
He thinks that I am easy to manipulate. He really does not know me.
“She saved them from a dangerous human you brought here against my counsel,” I counter and see him swallow his saliva.
“I am grateful that she saved them, but you don’t get to blackmail me about this. I made it clear that I did not want them in my property. You brought them here. You must take a full responsibility for them.”
I am storming out when Snow stirs inside. He has been acting very strange lately.
Lebo is standing in front of the window when I get home. She is wearing black as usual. How I miss my jovial colorful sister.
“Please tell me what happened,” I plead with her. This story just does not make sense. I need to know the truth.
“I want Alpha Benjamin’s human slave girl,” she says, completely changing the subject and frustrating me.
A human almost hurt her, and she wants one as a slave. I don’t know what has gotten to her. She is obsessed with this slave.
“Get her, Zake. I want her,” she repeats, more like instructs me.
“I don’t want humans here, Lebo!” I snap and soon regret it.
She clenches her jaw, turns around and heads to her suite without saying another word. Damn it!
What is with my sister and this human slave?
“I am trying to get the file without raising suspicions, but rumors are that she killed forty-five high profile people in cold blood. Even the guards at the prison they came from were scared of her. She is only alive because the country has no death sentence. Her friend killed twenty.”
I can’t help but be stunned. She is only twenty years old and has so many bodies under her belt. She is a real monster.
“Make sure that Lebo knows this,” I instruct.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“I want someone here twenty-four seven. None of these humans can set their feet here again.”
He nods.
“Did you get her?” Lebo asks the moment she sees me. I did not see her yesterday after she stormed away. This is now the first thing she asks when she sees me. It was better when she asked about my human.
I let out a sigh and tell her what my Beta told me about the human she wants.
“She is not a monster. I want her.”
I look at her in disbelief. It is like she did not hear a word I just said.
“You can’t be serious!”
“I am. I want her. Get her or I will ask Alpha Benjamin myself.”
I am usually patient with her, but her defiance is pissing me off. I am not just saying no for fun. That slave is dangerous. This is to protect her, and she is acting like a spoiled brat.
“Bring her here and I will break her neck before your eyes,” I grit my teeth while she takes deep breaths.
“She saved me and you want to kill her. You are an asshole! That’s why you will never find her!” she yells and runs off.
I am left very confused. What does she mean she saved her? What does this have anything to do with me finding my human?
Women!
“I will go and talk to her,” Lucy says when our eyes meet and quickly runs off.
I feel like I am missing something.
