Efa
We are being ushered to the Alpha of Alphas mansion when my eyes land on the woman in the mansion next door. I don’t know why but something about her feels familiar. She looks broken and I somehow feel pain by just looking at her. Is she also a werewolf or a slave like us?
“Move, Slave,” the man I now know to be Beta Angelo says angrily and pushes me forward.
We get into the mansion and meet their Princess Hayley. I can already tell that she and I are going to clash very soon. She has the superior complex and entitlement I absolutely hate.
“This is not bad at all. We just clean the house and do all the chores but get decent food and a room in the basement. This is a hundred-fold better than the max prison!”
I laugh at Jess. She is such an optimist.
“No electric shocks. This is an early Christmas present!” she adds. I completely get her.
Those shocks were a daily thing in max prison. Stupid guards were scared of us. That was their only way to subdue us.
We wake up early the following morning and start with our chores. We are serving breakfast when the princess slaps my cheek. She apparently hates boiled eggs. I was supposed to guess that.
My hands immediately clench into fists. I can feel my rage brew inside. She has no idea who I am.
Jess clears her throat and channels my attention to Alpha Benjamin who looks ready to pounce at me.
I loosen my hands, take deep breaths and look at her.
“Tell me nicely next time, Princess. I don’t know your preferences, and I don’t read minds.”
She looks at me in disbelief and lifts her hand to slap me again.
“Slap me again and you will be dead before you father gets to me,” I warn, meaning every word while Jess shakes her head at me.
“I don’t mind serving all of you. It is nothing compared to what I have been through. Just don’t tramp on me, I have a short fuse,” I warn and leave them with their jaws down.
“Are we sure that we should keep these humans? Daddy she is scary and a serial killer!” I hear the princess complain as I walk back with her scrambled eggs. I guess they have seen my file.
“Your eggs, Your Grace.”
My respectful tone takes them aback. That was the intention. She will be the unreasonable one by the time I am done with her.
Jess shakes her head again and continues pouring juice for them.
An hour later, I watch them change, more like shift into their wolves and sprint towards the woods. I somehow envy them.
How on earth did I not know that werewolves were real? Was Snow one too? I shake my head. There is no way that I would have missed that. He would not have been caught in that snare if he was one, I think. I wonder where he is.
I am moping the floor when I hear screams outside. I jump the fence without thinking twice when I see Jack Reaper holding the woman next door at a gun point. How on earth did he get a gun here?
“Pick on someone your size,” I say as I walk in and scan the place. It feels cold yet homely. The woman I saw the other day is probably six years older than me. She does not even make an attempt to plead with Jack, nor does she seem scared. It is like she does not care what happens to her. My heart breaks when our eyes meet. I look away and see another woman her age tied up on a chair.
This is Jack’s signature. He makes the family member watch while he tortures their loved ones.
The bastard laughs, showing off his disgusting set of gold teeth. It is time for our re-match. I am going to make the world a better place today.
“One more step and I will blow their heads off,” he warns and presses the gun at the woman with an expressionless face.
She does not flinch. Her whole demeanor breaks my heart. I wonder what is haunting her.
“What? Are you scared of me, Jack?” I ask in the belittling tone I know he hates.
“Scared of you? Please,” he smirks.
“Put down that gun and I will teach you how to fight,” I challenge, and succeed in distracting him. I am on his face and hit the gun very far before he can react.
This woman still does not move.
Jack and I are caught up in a physical fight when the other woman calls to her.
“Lebo, untie me. We must call for help.”
I brock them out and focus all my attention on Jack. The bastart is fifty kilograms bigger than me and not easy to subdue. We roll on the floor, punching and kicking when I finally get my chance. I punch him hard on the neck and he gasps. I am strangling him when Alpha Benjamin and others rush in.
“Release him,” Alpha Benjamin commands but I have no intension of letting him live. He is a vindictive murderous ass. I can’t risk him lurking around here.
“I said release him!” the Alpha roars while I break his neck and push his lifeless body off me.
“The world is a better place without him. You are welcomed,” I say and head towards the door.
“I am starting to think that Alpha Zake was right that we should not have taken them. These creatures are dangerous,” I hear one of the Alphas say as I walk away.
I have taken one step out when my head feels like it is exploding. My chest is on fire before I cough out blood, and everything becomes blank.
I wake up to find Jess next to my bed.
“What the hell happened to me?”
“You had a fight with Jack. You killed him but he must have hit you hard too. The doctor said you have rib fractures.”
I shake my head. “He did not hit my chest. I got that after he was dead.”
She looks questioningly at me, but I can’t explain it.
“I think witchcraft is real.”
Jess laughs until tears roll down her cheeks.
“What? Werewolves are real. Witchcraft has to be too. Jack did not hit my chest at all.”
“Fine. We are to keep what happened next door to ourselves. Apparently, Alpha Zake hates humans and has made it clear that he does not want us there. Next door is his mansion.”
I shrug. I would not have gone there had Jack not tried to kill those women. I will remember never to trespass on his property.
Seventeen December, I find Alpha Benjamin, his Luna, son, daughter and Beta waiting for me in the lounge.
“Melody, right?” the Alpha asks while I take their expressions in.
“I prefer slave or Efa.”
They exchange looks. I read between the lines and speak first.
I heard that the Alpha next door hates humans. I should have not gone there. It will not happen again.
They exchange looks again before Alpha Benjamin speaks.
“You saved the girls next door from that sick pyscho. I did not know that when I commanded you to let him go. Alpha Zake is lethal and hates your kind. I have made everyone who was there swear not to mention your presence in his mansion. If anyone asks, you were never there. Hayley saved Princess Lebo and Lucy.”
“Crystal clear, Your Highness.”
I hear him sigh as I walk away. He seems scared of this Alpha Zake, who hates my kind.
Jess is suspicious when I tell her what happened.
“Well, Princess Lebo has been asking about you. She sounds genuinely concerned.”
I guess those two are also werewolves. I wonder why they did not shift and kill Jack that day.
“It is gratitude. Tell her that she is welcomed.”
I want to get on with my chores, but Jess has more to say. She always does.
“I heard that her brother, who hates humans with passion is the most powerful wolf here and Princess Hayley wants him. He has turned her down a multiple times. You might have just given her the golden ticket to matrimony.”
I don’t know how Jess gets all the gossip. It was the same in prison as well. We have only been here for three days, and she knows this much already.
I really don’t care who this Alpha Zake is, nor do I care whom he marries. I am fine for as long as he does not mess with me.
“What if he finds out the truth?” she asks. “Maybe you will be his wife. I hear that he is a hunk.”
I roll my eyes at Jess and her romantic imaginations.
“A werewolf hunk who hates humans?” I ask her. “I don’t care who he is. I will keep a low profile and never meet him.”
Jess bursts out into laughter. She clearly does not believe me.
“You don’t know the meaning of keeping a low profile, Friend.”
“I will learn. I don’t want to be some powerful Alpha wolf’s kill.”
