Zake
“The humans are arriving today. I expect all of you there. They need to see our unity and know that we will not tolerate disobedience,” Alpha Benjamin informs the council of Alphas.
“You too, Alpha Zake,” he adds and everyone turns to look at me. He knows that I don’t follow orders like others.
“We agreed to project a united front out there. I don’t have to pretend in here. I still don’t approve accepting humans here. I will not be there.”
He smiles at my response, but I can feel his anger.
“A man who always speaks his mind. That is what I like about you, Alpha Zake.”
I can hear manipulation coming.
“We will be accepting the humans out there. Our members will be watching. They look up to you.”
I curse inside and nod before leaving. I need to let my wolf loose before they arrive. I have been on urge lately. It is all the nightmares about my human and these mysterious bruises I am getting, supposedly from the mate I never claimed.
Wind blowing through my thick fur, heart pumping and adrenaline surge filling my veins, now this is life. I am at a euphoric state when her kind face flashes in my head. Where the hell are you?
“Maybe she died.”
I push away my Beta’s words. No way! She promised me to get Elim back.
“She was just a child with no mother and an abusing father. Who knows what happened to her after he was arrested?” Snow links, but I can’t accept that. She promised me. One day I will see her. One day, my pack and I will return to Elim.
Before I know it, I am at the border of the tropical forest. I must head back before the humans arrive or Alpha Benjamin will think that I am openly challenging him. He can’t do anything to me, but I don’t have the energy to deal with his tantrums.
Their aircraft is already at the gate when I arrive.
“Snow?” I question when my wolf starts acting strange.
Alpha Benjamin gives me a nod. I can see relief in his eyes.
We are heading to the gate when I start feeling really hot. What the hell?
“Sky?”
“I don’t like that name. I’m Snow.”
“Fine, Snow. What’s going on?”
He has not responded when my Beta pulls me aside.
“We have a new lead. There is girl who is being sold off at an auction right now. She is an orphan, father died in prison. She fits her description.”
My heart races. Maybe that is what Snow was sensing.
“Where?”
“Asherway Deep Nightclub.”
“Let’s go.”
“Alpha Benjamin will be upset if we leave now,” he says behind me as I shift and Snow dashes to the forest.
That is the least of my worries. I have to find my human.
The place is packed with these evil bastards. I suppress Snow who wants nothing more that tear all of them apart.
The women on the stage look terrified while creepy bastards cheer and buy them like assets. These are their fellow humans, yet they treat them like this. Humans don’t deserve a share in this world.
Two hours later, we have paid a ridiculous price for the girl. A few minutes later I look at her with disappointment and a feeling of doom. It is not her. It is not my human.
“Tha…thank you, Sir,” she murmurs and runs off when we set her free.
“I am sorry, Alpha. I was sure that is her.”
“It’s okay. Let’s head back.”
“The Alpha of Alphas has four humans. Other Alphas have two. Betas have one each,” Lucy informs us when we get home.
“How is she?” I enquire about my sister, who is staring outside through the window.
It can’t be easy for her to know that the humans are amongst us.
“She wants Alpha Benjamin’s human.”
I frown at that before going to stand next to her near the window.
Why would Lebo want a human slave?
“Did you find her?” she asks the same question she always asks.
I shake my head and tell her about my other disappointing dead end.
“Can you get Alpha Benjamin to give you his girl slave?”
“Why?”
She shrugs. “I don’t know. I just like her.”
“You like a human?”
She shrugs again and heads to her suite.
I look questioningly at Lucy who shrugs. Sometimes I wish they were chatterboxes like other women.
“These humans are the most dangerous kind. Keep her away from them,” I instruct before taking a call from my second Beta who is following a lead abroad. It looks like I have to go there. I hope this one is real.
I am outside when Snow gets restless. Something out there is unsettling my wolf.
I curse out when Hayley runs towards me.
“Alpha Zake. You missed the welcoming of human slaves. Father was not pleased but I pacified him for you.”
“Gee. Thanks.”
She can’t even tell that I am being sarcastic. She flashes me a smile and seductively whisks her hair back.
“It is always a pleasure being on your side.”
If there ever was a blond she-wolf, she would be it.
I leave her there and feel like someone is watching me. It must be her father. I hate having my mansion so close to theirs.
I arrive in Leap the following day and find my Beta already waiting. He passes me her file.
“She is an Environmentalist at the University of Leap.”
I page through the file. That career would suit her. She risked her life for me and my pack when she was just a child.
“We have an appointment with her in thirty minutes time.”
I nod. So many things run through my head as we drive to the university. How will she react when she sees me? Would she remember?
“Have you thought about the part where you are human and she knows me?” Snow links while I curse out.
This is becoming complicated.
“Okay. We are just ordinary people. The plan is to confirm that it is her first. The rest will follow,” I tell Snow and feel my cheeks burn like I have been slapped. What the hell?
“Is our mate getting beaten up?” Sky asks. This is supposed to be his turf, yet he is asking me.
I don’t bother responding to him. We can search for our mate after finding our human.
I can feel my rage threatening to explode as we leave the University. It is another stupid dead end.
“Aaaaaaaah!” I scream out in frustration as we head back to the airport.
My Beta must have been startled because he veers off the road and the car rolls over. f**k!
