Ingrid was busy lately planning some fancy party whilst I was running around back and forth to the university to talk to my professors about the next stages after school. I hadn’t told Ingrid about it yet. I wanted to surprise her when there was something on the table to showcase but it had all been a lot more complicated than I first thought. There were secret phone calls with business people and properties. I wanted to open the small business I told Ingrid all about on our first date; I was just waiting now for confirmation, glued to my phone like it was a bomb that could go off at any minute. The bedroom door opened and I looked up to see Ingrid coming in, looking stunning. She had glitter mesh black pants and a velvet black suit that showcase her voluptuous breasts. She looked fierce and like a women on a mission. ‘Wow.’ I said. Ingrid just smiled and something felt off. I stood up and went behind her, wrapping my arms around her as she applied some lipstick on. ‘Is everything ok?’ She smiled at me through the mirror but it seemed a little off. What do you mean by off? It looked forced and an uneasy feeling set in my stomach as I smiled back at her as she turned around and smoothed my chin. ‘I’m fine. Lets go join the party shall we.’ I took her hand and followed her downstairs. ‘What’s this party for?’ I asked her. ‘After all this planning and organising. You haven’t actually told me.’ ‘You haven’t exactly been around lately.’ she muttered back. ‘I’ve been a little busy, i’’m sorry,’ Ingrid didn’t say anything. ‘Ingrid. Babe.’ She wouldn’t stop and I had to literally stop and pull on her hand. It took another tug before she turned around and looked at me. ‘I’m sorry. If you’re mad at me for not being around. Then im sorry ok.’ Something glistened in Ingrid’s eyes and her nose flared. She grabbed the strap on my shoulder and ripped it down. ‘What are you doing?’ I shouted, as she yanked my dress off leaving me in pants and high heels. ‘Ingrid. Stop it. Stop.’ Right on the other side of the door was a hall full of people. That door could open up at any moment and I would be mortified but i didn’t have to wait for long before that nightmare became real. ‘Perhaps this will teach you a lesson.’ Ingrid kicked the door open and shoved me inside. I stumbled and collapsed to the floor, hearing the gasp of the ground, I tried my best to cover my breasts and stand back up and bolt but there was no hope. Ingrid blocked the doors. ‘What are you doing?’ I begged Ingrid. ‘Did you think I didn’t notice?’ Ingrid shouted loudly. Everyone was looking at us. Listening to us and staring at my naked body. Why was I wearing sexy knickers that didn’t cover my arse? ‘I’ve had my men tracking you for days. I know all about your little love nest you’ve bought and your secret rendezvous with your professor. Did you seriously think you could cheat on me and get away with it? Everyone looked at what happens when you’re an enemy to this family. When you cheat and lie to me. Take pictures everyone so Miss Green will always remember this day.’ I looked at Ingrid through tear filled eyes. ‘I never cheated on you, Ingrid,’ I said, trying to hold my arms against the remaining shred of my dignity. ‘I was trying to make myself worthy of being your girlfriend. The professor was helping me study and start my own business and the little love nest was a shop of my own.’ Ingrid stared at me. I didn’t have to yell. I didn’t have to cry in front of her or swear because the minute I talked she knew I was telling the truth. She stepped forward, but I moved to the side. ‘Put your phone down, now.’ she suddenly shouted. She turned to her men. ‘Delete any proof of tonight.’ the men jumped to the task but when Ingrid turned back around to me I was walking out of the room and back upstairs. I grabbed a jumper and leggings and threw them on as I filled a bag with my stuff, or at least stuff that I could afford to pay Ingrid back for. ‘Amy. Amy, stop, please. Talk to me.’ I looked up from the bag at Ingrid with a judgemental look. ‘What like how you stopped and talked to me. I get that you’re life is filled with danger and people that you can’t trust but I never thought that for a second you would ever doubt me. I never wanted to be a house wife or the mafia queens women. Before I met you I didn’t even think I liked women but you came in and shook my world up. I’ve learned more about myself in the months we’ve date then my entire life but I quickly became just a girlfriend instead of my own person.’ I took a deep breath and finished packing. ‘I want to make it on my own, Ingrid and after that stunt you just pulled I think we need to spend some time apart.’ Ingrid pulled on Amy’s arm. ‘Baby, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I can’t be without you.’ I tugged her arm off me. ‘Goodbye Ingrid.’ I grabbed my bags and headed out. I didn’t know where I was going or what my plan was next, but I knew I wanted to carry on with my plan. Ingrid had become my weakness and I lost sight of who I was along the way. So that’s the last time you spoke to Ingrid? I nodded at the detective. ‘I heard from a few of her men. They called to tell me she was a drinking mess but I didn’t give in and then I heard that they were going off the grid for a while because they were on some sort of undercover mission.’ ‘This undercover mission. Did you know what it was?’ ‘No. I really did walk away. I didn’t stop all my contact with Ingrid. It was hard to when she was messaging every minute of every day. I never stopped loving her but I was angry at her for what she did.’ I noticed the way she was avoiding my eyes. ‘What is it? You’ve obviously brought me in here for a reason so what’s happened? What’s Ingrid done now?’ ‘There was an explosion. No bodies have been found yet but Ingrid hasn’t been seen or heard from since.’ ‘Wait, are you saying…’ I couldn’t even bring myself to ask, my heart tightening up in my chest. ‘I’m sorry to have dragged you in here, Miss Green. You’re free to go but if Ingrid ever gets in touch with you we need to know.’
