Orion and I howled in pain. We had lost her.
"Elizabeth, please come back to me." I was begging her through the mindlink. "I'm so sorry we didn't find you sooner. You can't be gone. We won't make it without you. Please come back to me."
We had now reached a point where hours had gone by with us mating her, but she remained in her feral state.
It was only once Orion tried getting off of Phoenix that we heard a growl that wasn't like all the other growls we had been hearing this entire time. There was more than anger and fear behind that growl. There was also shock, confusion and even relief.
