Killing with Song

I walk towards the house which is now the crime scene . It's so cold and lonely , that's all I can think ,as I walk towards the body. I notice the familiar melody of a song I've heard a lot before . I follow the sound and come face-to-face with the reason I was woken at 2am . The Victim an elderly man about 40 to 45 years of age . A glass containing a brownish beverage held firmly in his hand eyes looking straight ahead. If not for the bluish-purple color of his skin I would have thought him alive.creepy. " What's up with the music deputy?" I ask the cop securing the scene. " It was on when I got here ma'am, I thought it vital to your investigation as it seems to be put in a loop ." He answered . " Good thinking, Keora, and none of that, ma'am stuff either we've been working together for a long time I believe you know my name ?. " . " of course ma'a.. I mean Jade" he says . " No problem , who found the body ?". " The neighbor , Mr Ofentse Kim , he apparently got 'worried' when he saw the door opened.He says Mr Cole here was very particular about his back door staying closed because of the neighborhood cats and dogs finding their way into his house . He came in looking for his cat, followed the music ,found Mr Cole and called us immediately." " Is this the wife ? cause if so , this is just creepy ." I say walking towards the shelf of different pictures of the same woman surrounded by candles and flowers. Is this a shrine ?. " No ma'am, the neighbor says he is not married and has no family from what he has seen , but I don't know if he is reliable. As he himself was a bit fidgety and seemed to care more for the cat than the dead body he saw. Not to mention ,this card was taken from him as it has blood on it, the blood might be Mr Cole's " he then hands me a card with a black crown on it, inside an evidence bag. " I hope you didn't touch my body Jade , I swear you give the captain a reason to want to fire you every time he sees you . " Mercy the coroner says walking in with her little case of whatever coroners carry . She takes out the gloves and puts them on as she talks to me . " Good morning to you too Mercy. You know I did that once and I really did think that woman was alive". " Alive -shmalive you and I both know you get as curious as a cat when you get to a crime scene. Let's see what we have here . I can't really estimate the time of death yet, but it's been more than 4 hours. I will have to do a full autopsy to find the cause of death . Alright Jade you can call your people and do your thing . Boys come help me with the body ."she calls her assistants "Who says shmalive ?. The position of the body is a bit strange for a suicide , so I guess an autopsy is warranted " I mumble letting the CSI's in. Taking out my phone I call Nicolas Stewart, the most brilliant crime tech ever, and also my good friend . " A hello to you " he answers. Who answers their phone like that at 5am in the morning . " Do you even sleep ? " I ask " woke up at 4am " " why ?. You know what, never mind, we got a case, and I'm almost certain that it's a homicide. I'm going to send you pictures of a woman I want you to do a facial recognition search on her. She might or might not be the key to cracking this open. Get back to me as soon as you can ." " sure thing" . I hang up and send the pics . Now we wait, Waiting for the autopsy, the woman's identity and forensics . I have no choice but to go to the office and finish some paperwork . A few days later, I walk slowly to my boss's office. Knock knock , the sound of my knuckles on hardwood just seems to increase my nerves cause this dude hates me . " Come in " he shouts . " Jade Ash, the detective with the highest crimes solved in the department. Please tell me why you thought it a good idea to ask for as autopsy on a slam dunk suicide . " 'Captain Dawson homophobe of the department ,slam dunker of favour cases, s****l assaulter of the year and friend of the mayor , How stupid can you be ? ' is what I would have said if I didn't like my job. " Sir, suicide was my initial thought but after noticing that the position of the body was more staged than natural, I had to be sure. I also know that the department needs more correctly solved cases." I say planting a seed of incompetence in his small-brained big head . " And you were right to do so Jade it appears that Mr Cole's hand was tied around the glass until rigor set and his body was staged into a sitting position by ropes and tape .I also found out he was drugged ,from the tox report .The lab results also came and Thallium was found in the glass that was in his hand .I also found an injection mark on his neck , upon testing the area we found a trace of Midazolam ,a very fast acting sedative. Time of death is between 6pm and 8pm on monday the 27 of july .so 4 days ago " Mercy saves the day . " You are dismissed detective Jade , I want an update on the case asap ." I walk out and see Nico at my desk . " So I found your mystery lady . Name is Jill McCoy married to a Jack McCoy , they live in Sage village and have two sons . Jill also has a restraining order against a Mr Dillon Cole , that was filed 25 years ago ." "Why do they sound like a family from a nursery rhyme book. I guess we driving to the next town then Alex . " " why me ? I'm just the tech guy " " you are more tolerable , and I won't go alone cause I'm a cop , not stupid . What if one of the McCoy's is the killer . " " Then I might get killed !!" " you'll be the bait " I say trying not to laugh . " what?!" " relax I'm just joking , you are just keeping me company . I'll buy you lunch. " . " fiiinne" The McCoy's live an average life judging from their house. It's not too small ,not too big. White fence , big tree and a swing kind of house. We walk up the driveway and I knock on the door and come face to face with Jill McCoy. " Hello can I help you ?" She says with a smile. "hello ma'am I'm detective Jade Ash and this is my colleague Mr Nicolas Stewart ,may we please talk to Mrs Jill McCoy ." "I'm Jill McCoy how can I help you ?"she asks in confusion, leading us into the house and motioning for us to sit down . "Do you know a Dillon Cole ?" I ask . she grows paler and paler as the seconds pass by . "Jake !!" she screams .and thundering footsteps run towards us "What's wrong love ? and who are these people ?" The man that just ran into the room asks. "They are cops ,they asked about him , Jack" the husband's face goes blank and he sits next to his wife and holds her hands . Damn this guy really traumatized this couple . "we didn't mean to upset you , this might be hard to digest but we found a shrine to you the middle of his dining room . he was murdered and all we know is that he was obsessed with you and as hard as it is to imagine you are the only person who might know the kind of person he was . " They look more relaxed now that I told them he was murdered . or maybe they are just pretending ,you know everyone is a suspect . " He was a classmate,he would always stare at me , but I didn't think much of it .Well that is until he started following me around and telling people I'm his girlfriend . He would also fight other boys saying they looked at me . I realised how bad it was when I woke up to him in my room looking at me like a creep. I screamed and my dad ran in to my room baseball bat in hand . He hit him as my mom called the cops he was arrested and for 10 years I could relax . After his release I started seeing him everywhere even at my children's school .The last straw was when he tried taking my oldest boy,who was 5 years old at the time ,he had gone to my son's school and tried to convince my son that he is my friend , but luckily I had warned my son about him .we couldn't get him arrested so i placed a restraining order on him and I would still see him now and then but not as much as before .I will not pretend to be sad that he is dead he made my life a living hell and now I can truly relax ." as she explains all this tears run down her cheeks . This man was truly awful . " we are really sorry for what you have been through Mrs McCoy. Thank you for telling us all this ,I can only imagine how you must have felt .I have to ask , where were you and the rest of your family on monday the 27th of july between 6pm and 8pm ?" " My wife and I were at the italian restaurant at wolfsbane village , our oldest is now 19 years old and is five hours away at atlas university . our youngest is 15 years old and was at camp he came back yesterday ."Jack answers " Thank you for your cooperation ,we will take our leave now ."they walk us to the door when I think of something . "sheesh tough crowd, Hello people with a good music sense and good looks. wink wink " he says the wink wink looking at nico and I'm trying not to laugh at nico's face . It's the song of the week.Every Monday ,a song is selected as song of the week . I'm going to Ryan's place "he wiggles his eyebrows after the last statement ,the parents laugh and he walks out laughing as well . "Ryan is his boyfriend . I don"t know the song , but the lyrics make me think of dillon's personality . I don't know maybe it's cause you came because of him." the mom says " Thank you again , here is my card please do call if there is anything you think of .I think you may be on to something about the personality . " I say as we walk to our car. " See no murderers here Nico, just 15 year olds checking you out ." I say laughing at him " you still owe me food " he says with a pout .
