CHAPTER 13 I groaned in annoyance as Stephen shook me awake. Rubbing my eyes, I glanced ahead — Salvatore and Victor were nowhere in sight. Outside the window, the jungle mansion buzzed with activity. Men were hauling crates and luggage, shifting their base somewhere else. Stephen took my hands, helping me out of the car. “Thank you,” I whispered. “Why the rush?” I asked, eyes narrowing. “We’ve been exposed. The cops are closing in. They could be here any minute,” Stephen said grimly. “Oh.” I followed him inside. Salvatore, Victor, and John sat at the dining table, casually talking while new maids served lunch. “Where are Anna and Lucy?” I asked Stephen, frowning. Nick killed them — and two security guards — as soon as he learned I’d escaped. Stephen’s voice was heavy with regret.
