14 At around ten o’clock that evening, my phone rang. Seeing that it was Hannah calling, I answered at once. It was obvious why she wanted to speak to me, because I had agreed to call her with any news after visiting my next-door neighbour. Sure enough, she asked me what had happened with Richard. I hated to disappoint her, but had to admit that my visit had been a complete failure. Not only that, but I had unfortunately had to leave her magnifying glass behind. Miserably, I explained how that had happened, and promised to buy her another one. She assured me she didn’t care about her magnifying glass; she was just pleased I had escaped with my secret intact.
