Tessa’s POV I sat in my study, staring out the window at Robert and our daughter playing outside. Robert chased Sophie around the yard, both of them laughing and shrieking with delight. I smiled at the sight, but it was bittersweet. Robert glanced up from the yard and saw me standing by the window, watching them. He waved at me, a smile on his face. I returned the wave, but my smile was small and seemed forced. I turned away from the window, my gaze falling on the files in her hand. I flipped through them, my mind elsewhere. I was still in the study, engrossed in my book, when I heard Robert's phone ringing from our bedroom. Curiosity got the better of me, so I made my way to the bedroom and picked up the phone.
