Getting back to the mansion, Edna headed straight to her office. It was better she ended the life of the god or goddess, whatever the girl might be, than wait around for something to happen. She had heard of such beings in stories before, but she never knew they could coexist in the human world. Beings that were up in the sky remained there. Whenever they came down, bad things happened. Having a god living in the settlement was very dangerous. She wished she hadn't forced her to sign the contract. She intended to end the issue quickly before others found out. She hadn't told Magdalena that the being was in their dungeon. She didn't trust the mage not to use the information to her advantage. Edna knew she had to finish the thing off fast. Once word gets out that there is a being higher than her on the settlement, the people will be shaken. Who knows, some could even start to worship the thing. She had worked very hard to keep the settlement safe. No god nor goddess would take that away from her. Edna, coming to a strong resolve, sent for her trusted man, Boyce Micheal.
Boyce was the leader of the shifter bears. He was rough, hard and very dangerous. Whenever there was the need to do a dirty job, he was the man to call. Boyce was a hundred and forty-eight years old. Although he was handsome and easy on the eyes, his honey-coloured eyes were cold and stern. He was Edna's favourite option and bedmate. She leaned on him for comfort and help. Edna knew, unlike Abel and Marcus, Boyce would obey without question.
Boyce walked into Edna's office shirtless. He had been moving about the house like that. Unlike werewolves, the were-bears only got bigger at the top but still maintained human-like shaped legs with bear feet. The muscles of their legs got stronger and their skin became almost impenetrable when they shifted, but if their pants were big enough, they would stay on. Hence the reason why Boyce was shirtless; he had shifted that morning and ruined his shirt in the process but maintained his trousers.
"You sent for me," he said in his deep, commanding voice.
" Yes," Edna responded, trying to hide her worry. "I need your help," she began. "There is danger in the settlement I need us to take care of quietly before word gets out," she explained.
"Danger?" Boyce asked, confused. Nothing out of the ordinary had happened that day. Was it in the settlement or an anticipated attack?
Being able to read all thoughts in proximity, Edna heard his mental questions.
"It's on the settlement, Boyce. It's here with us," she confirmed, taking a deep breath in preparation to explain the situation.
"Remember the girl you let in this morning," she began, and he nodded. How could he forget? It wasn't every day that new faces dropped by; he was bound to remember the small, scared girl he had let in earlier today.
"Well, apparently, she is not human," Edna explained. Boyce arched his brow, wondering why that was an issue. After all, there were no humans living in the settlement.
"I mean, she isn't partly human," Edna explained. Understanding came to him. All magical and supernatural beings were partly human.
"She's a god," Edna said, and Boyce exclaimed.
"What!?!"
"I was shocked too," Edna told him.
"How do you know this? " Boyce asked, doubting her statement.
"Her details printed as blue on the parchment. I went to Magdalena for an explanation, and she told me about the three beings whose life cores were pure colours. That girl fits under the god category," Edna explained.
"You went to see Magdalena?" Boyce asked, knowing how much they detested each other. He knew the situation must have been dire for Edna to go to Magdalena.
"Does Magdalena know the god is here?" he asked.
"No," she responded. "That's why I called you. It won't take long before she figures it out and finds how to use it to her advantage."
"So, what would you have me do?" He asked, ready to help. Everyone knew Boyce was in love with Edna; everyone but Edna. He would do anything for her. If she asked, he would die for her.
"We need to kill it," Edna said.
The dungeon was dark and dingy. Alison woke up in chains. She was tied up like an animal. Her mind was foggy at first, but soon realization came. She remembered all that had happened. The parchment pulled out of thin air, her blood, everything. She tugged at the chains. What was she thinking? It wasn't like she had superhuman strength. Whoever locked her there wasn't joking. There was no way the chains were fake. Had she been sold? After all, she had signed a contract that she wasn't allowed to read.
"Hello," Alison called out. She called out for a while and then decided to give it a rest. She was grateful she had eaten at the cottage that morning. She knew hunger would set in soon. She wished Steve was there; living on the streets, sleeping on cold floors, and eating leftovers were better than this. She wished she could go back to the streets. Her aunt's house was better than this. Right now, she was living a nightmare, and the painful part was she wasn't even sleeping.
Edna and Boyce entered Alison's cell and found her curled up in the corner. The guards had done a good job securing her in the chains. Edna had asked them to chain her up specifically with an enchanted chain used to hold dragons. There was nothing stronger than that. But with the current information she had, she knew the chain wouldn't hold. They needed to be careful and move quickly.
"Hey, Alison or Dinah, whatever you call yourself, what is your mission here?" Edna asked. She wasn't going to kill her without getting some information out of her. Maybe her kind was lurking around somewhere, waiting for a signal to swoop in.
"What?" Alison asked, confused and scared.
Edna slapped her hard across the face. The slap was so strong it shifted the girl's jaw. Knowing Alison wasn't human, Edna had used little superhuman strength to slap her, and it had done damage. Alison had never been hurt before. This was the first time she would be physically injured, and the pain was excruciating. Many times she fell from a great height. She'd get some bruises here and there but nothing major. People believed she was lucky. Well, her luck had run out.
Boyce, not sensing magic from the girl, became scared. He was afraid Edna had lost her mind.
"Edna, I don't think she would be able to speak now," he said, pointing at Alison's face. Her jaw was shifted, and it was obvious. "Edna, I do not think this girl has any powers. There is no magic radiating off her."
"She's cloaking her powers," Edna replied.
"Look at her, Edna," Boyce said. "The girl is scared. Yes, she might not be human, but she is not a danger to us."
"If you won't help, I will do it myself," Edna said, refusing to listen to reason.
"Then just kill her because this girl has no information for us, and you know it," Boyce told Edna, resigning.
Edna looked at Alison, wondering if there was a special way to kill a god. She decided she would try the human way first. If it doesn't work, she would try other ways until she finds a way.
"Get me a gun with a silver bullet," she ordered. She was going to kill her in two ways, as a human and as a shifter.
