Robert sat quietly in his study to analyze the situation. Although Edna thought she had everything on the hush, he knew what was happening. He hadn't anticipated a surprise from the sweet girl that had come to apply for a job, but his handler had told him to let her in. He wondered what his handler's plan was. The girl was in trouble and might lose her life in the process. He couldn't imagine that to be part of his handler's plan. He intended to wait and see.
Robert had come to work for Edna under his handler's instruction. He was to keep an eye on her and her dealings. Soon Abel was added to the list of the people he was to keep an eye on. He had influenced a lot of things in the boy's life and was still doing so. When his handler told him about Alison, he thought the task would be as easy as Abel and Edna, but right now, it was taking another path, one he had never walked.
Robert knew Edna had gone to see the old mage. He decided to find out what it was about. He knew it had to be something very serious because the two never met eye to eye. Although Edna might not tell him, he knew Magdalena would speak, after all, they both had the same handler, and he was watching their every move.
Robert found Magdalena mixing concoctions on her kitchen island. He cleared his throat to gain her attention. Immediately, she spun around and smiled. She was glad to see him. Although much had transpired between the two, they never confessed their feelings for one another.
"To what do I owe this visit, dear Robert?" Magdalena asked, amused. Although the woman was very old, ancient to be precise, her beauty was breathtaking. Her soft golden eyes spoke volumes. Snow White couldn't compare to her fairness. The human sacrifices had kept her young and beautiful.
"Did Edna come to see you?" Robert asked, getting straight to the point. He was a business first before pleasure kind of person, and everyone knew this about him. So when he behaved like that, no one took offence. They simply knew it was not personal.
"Matter of fact, yes," she replied with a smile. She studied Robert to see if he had other questions, but his deep blue eyes said it all.
"She wanted to know what kind of being had a blue life core. I told her, and she was on her way. One thing I can say is that the dragon lady is hiding something, and I intend to find out." She completed.
"She didn't give you any information?" He asked.
"No. She begged me to answer her question. I did, and she was on her way." Magdalena replied. "I believe you will relate this news to him?" Magdalena asked Robert, referring to their handler, and he nodded.
Abel knew something was off in the evening when Edna and Boyce had missed dinner. He had gone to look for her in her office, but she wasn't there. He felt uneasy, and he couldn't hide it. He knew she was bent on killing the poor girl. Had she taken his advice and done an investigation? Or had she just decided she would kill her? The mansion was close to empty, which indicated something secretive was going on. He knew they had taken the poor girl to the dungeon, so he hurried there.
Abel heard the gunshot. He ran faster towards the sound. What he saw shocked him. Boyce was tired; there were plenty of used bullets on the ground, several bloody stakes, and a dragon-killing sword. All the weapons capable of killing a magical and supernatural being were there, and they had all been used.
"Edna! what the..fuck?!" he swore. He couldn't believe his eyes. Had the dragon gone mad? He saw the girl on the ground with her head bowed. She looked dead.
"Why Edna? You killed a helpless girl?" he asked and looked at Edna's face. There was a terror on it. She had been crying tears of terror.
"She... She.." Edna began, stammering and unable to get the words out.
"She can't be killed." Boyce helped her finish the sentence. " We have tried everything. It's like the more we try to kill her, the faster she heals. Her healing speed is faster than anything we've seen. Trying to kill her is making her stronger, yet there is no magic emanating from her."
Abel was in shock at what he had heard. The girl was a true immortal. Someone nothing they know could kill. It was exciting and scary at the same time. Abel could understand Edna's fear. Up until then, Edna was the most powerful creature, but now here was something much more powerful than her. The fact that the girl could not be killed made her the most powerful being.
"What do we do now, Abel?" Edna asked, and that question pissed him off.
"I told you not to do this," he began. "I told you to do some research, then decide. Either way, you have brought calamity on us. "What if all this aggravates her?" he asked. "We have established that she can't die. But we can."
"I did the research. Magdalena said she is a supreme being." Edna replied, ashamed and afraid of what she had done.
Abel's eyes widened in terror at Edna's response. He had read books about supreme beings in the human libraries while he was a free boy.
"And you decided to kill her after learning that?" Abel asked, pointing out her stupidity. "Don't you know what a supreme being is? They created all of us. They control everything. How did you think you could take her on?"
"Look, we don't have much time. We have to do something before she wakes up." Boyce cut in, bringing them back to the situation at hand.
"Get Robert." Edna finally said.
Robert entered the dungeon, and what he found shocked him as much as it did Abel.
"What the hell is going on here?" He asked.
"You dare question me!" Edna spoke with authority. Two people had already reprimanded her. She wasn't a child. She was a Dragon, a leader; she would not be questioned anymore.
"I am sorry, my lady," Robert replied with a bow. "What would you have me do?"
"Take this thing to the dark forest. Take a light stone to bring yourself back. Make sure she won't find her way out. We do not want a god taking revenge on our settlement. Hurry, use the portal in my office. She wakes in thirty minutes," Edna ordered.
