HAZEL
Dread filled me from head to toe as that subtle threat sank in.
I looked at the card I’d thrown aside, then back at Zephyr, feeling my guts recoil as I imagined him ruining the entire trajectory of my life with whatever he had up his sleeves.
For as long as I’d known him, he was always the type to play dirty. And what’s the only dirty thing he could spin to ruin me?
Undoubtedly, it was that afternoon in my office when he teased my n*****s and I shamelessly succumbed to his intoxicating wiles. I had no idea how he’d gotten proof of the act, but he was cunning enough to have figured something out.
Still, I had to be sure.
“What is it? Why not show me right now? Why lure me to an unknown location tomorrow?” I badgered him with questions immediately.
He looked at me blankly, unshaken by the urgency in my tone. There and then, I knew that he had no intention of responding, and that only pissed me off more.
“Maybe this is just some sick trick. I mean, in school, you were always second place because I never gave up the top spot. In every competition, I walked away with gold trophies, leaving you with silver. And now in the working world, I sweep several awards off the shelves that you wish you could get your hands on.”
I was so angry that I didn’t bother getting a response before going off on him some more.
“Is that it, Zephyr?” I bit out angrily, “have you decided to resort to these dirty games because you know there’s no other way you’ll ever surpass me?” I rolled my eyes at him.
Unmoved by my words, he calmly stepped closer, his blue eyes pulling me in like deep sea waves. As usual, his overwhelming attractiveness short circuited my brain for a few seconds.
He knocked me off guard completely by reaching out to press a huge thumb to my lower lip.
Heat sizzled in the spot on my lips where his thumb rested, and the lust veiling his eyes sent tingles to my core that nearly made my knees buckle where I stood.
His lips curved into a devilish smirk. “You’re even hotter when you’re mad.”
My breath caught in my throat and head flooded my entire being for all the wrong reasons as I watched him walk off, his muscular body making my brain a mess after what he’d just done.
“Don’t be later than 3pm,” came his commanding voice just before he disappeared behind a wall.
What life shattering trick was Zephyr Rossi about to pull on me?
***
Zephyr’s threat kept me up all night.
By the time I’d gotten ready for work and dragged myself out for breakfast, I felt like a zombie.
On the way to the office, my tummy was a grumbling mess because I couldn’t stomach anything at breakfast with all the tension brewing in my guts.
I still couldn’t figure out what dirt Zephyr had on me, but I was at least eighty percent certain that it had to do with that toe curling moment in my office.
Now, I totally regretted that lapse of judgement that made me give into his touch.
No matter how scintillating, the temporary pleasure wasn’t worth the suspense that was eating me out as I wondered what doom awaited me when Zephyr revealed whatever he had up his sleeves.
After hours of working on the same project and making no reasonable progress, it was almost time to meet up with Zephyr.
I knew that my bodyguard would be a problem though, he was sanctioned to follow me everywhere and give my father updates about my whereabouts, and I couldn’t have him reporting back about me meeting up with a man while I was engaged to Alpha. Even worse, I couldn’t risk him telling my father whatever would be revealed during the meeting, so I prepared ahead.
All it took to get rid of him was slipping a sleeping pill into his protein shake when he stepped out to refill the fuel tank on our way to work.
Now, he was fast asleep and snoring on the couch in my office reception and sneaking off to meet Zephyr was a breeze.
Soon, I was driving into the parking lot of “The golden orchid”, a private guest house that was impossible to book for events because it was always booked fully by the disgustingly rich. But something tells me that Zephyr was able to snag this slot at the last minute and kick someone else to the curb.
But his overprivileged behavior was the least of my worries right now, especially since my heart was beating like crazy as I headed to the door.
I’d just raised my hand to knock on it when it was pulled open.
“You’re three minutes late,” Zephyr pointed out, but I couldn’t focus on how annoying of him it was to welcome me with that rude comment.
Something else had whipped up my attention in an instant. Or rather, some persons.
The other Rossi brothers; Cyrus and Xaden.
They were both playing a game on the huge flat screen TV in the living room, laughing and roasting each other while at it.
Why were they here? My god.
I stood frozen at the entrance, my heartbeat tripling as I registered their unexpected presence. It didn’t make any sense that they were here when this was between Zephyr and I, or had he told them about what happened in my office and brought them here to worsen my humiliation?
I blinked, shame pooling in my guts and making them twist with a vengeance.
“Are you gonna stand there and gawk at my brothers or come in?” Zephyr smirked, enjoying my discomfort a little too much.
That was all it took for me to find my anger and use the intensity of it to drown all the nervousness that was once inflicting me. These men would never win where I was involved, and I planned to squash whatever nonsense they had planned to throw in my face.
Huffing in annoyance, I stepped past Zephyr, leaving the door ajar and walking further into the living room.
“Oh, the hot dork is here,” Xander’s boyish smile was thrown my way just as I reached the gaming area.
He’d been calling me that since college, and I’d warned him severally against doing so, but he never listened. Such an annoying prick.
“You mean the stuck up narc,” Cyprus corrected, narrowing his eyes at me while looking and sounding as intimidatingly stern as he always did.
Of course, I ignored his rude greeting, just like that of his brothers’.
“Unlike you lots, I have a busy schedule and I actually need to work to earn a living,” I hissed, before turning to Zephyr, “so show me whatever you want to so I can leave.”
Xaden grinned mischievously at me while his brothers barely reacted to my angry demand. And then the next second, Xaden picked up a remote and hit a button.
I’d expected literally anything other than what popped up on the screen.
Deeply pleasured moans filled the living room, and the pounding sounds of intensely rough s*x echoed as well while I nearly lost my balance.
I blinked severally, feeling faint as my heart threatened to stop the more I watched the video. I needed the earth to instantly explode and take every single living being with it, that’s the only way I could survive this.
Cyrus interrupted the sickening ringing in my head when he spoke. “We called you to show you this.”
