HAZEL
Zephyr might’ve walked out of this building hours ago, but the mesmerizing feeling of his tongue lingered.
“Ms. Cauthon, did you get that?”
A decade long client of our company, Alpha Gordon, called my attention on the zoom call I’d zoned out of a thousand times in the last hour.
It wasn’t my fault though. It was Zephyr and his unforgettable tongue that dragged me into this mess.
I cleared my throat, throwing on one of the deceitfully bright smiles I’d mastered how to weild as a woman in business, a predominantly masculine field.
“Of course, I totally did,” I lied, making a mental note to watch the recording of the meeting later tonight, “but it appears our time is nearly exhausted.”
Looking convinced by my little act, Alpha Gordon nodded, exiting the meeting without the common decency to bid me goodbye. I make these men billions of dollars richer, but they still can’t bring themselves to treat me like an equal.
Speaking of men who didn’t treat me like equals, there comes another wave of flashbacks from Zephyr’s scintillating n****e play that happened in my office a while ago.
I hadn’t gone more than ten minutes without thinking of it and it would soon drive me to literal madness.
Pissed that he’d flooded my thoughts so easily, I grabbed my purse and decided to head home. There was no point remaining in this office when I was nowhere near productive. In every corner, all I see is Zephyr’s arrogantly hot face as he teased me to his fill, how he toyed with me in a way that was still causing my p***y to throb.
Quickly, I shook the fresh thoughts away before they could overwhelm me again and put a call through to my driver.
“Wait by the entrance, I’ll be down soon.”

Once I arrived home, my father was waiting in his limo by the gate and the next thing I knew, we were driving to the hospital because Alpha had been admitted and was unconscious.
When we arrived, we met two people waiting outside his room.
They were Theo and Sera Don, two revered members of the werewolf community. Theo was Alpha’s younger brother and his beta by birth. Meanwhile, Sera was Alpha’s youngest daughter and my age mate.
Just remembering that I was being forced to marry a man who’d birthed children older and as old as me made my skin crawl with irritation.
“Theo, Sera,” my father started solemnly, “please accept my deepest condolences,” he finished as we stopped in front of them.
If my eyes were serving me right, Alpha’s condition was the least of Theo’s concerns. He seemed more fixated on the full curve of my breasts and the tease of a cleavage that was sticking out of my V-necked jumpsuit.
Meanwhile, Sera was absentmindedly typing away on her phone without acknowledging our presence. Typical spoiled brat behavior.
“Thank you, it’s support like yours that makes this easier,” Theo was responding to my father, but his gaze hadn't left my body for a split second.
“I would also like to extend my condolences in this trying time,” I forced out.
“Accepted wholeheartedly, our Luna-to-be,” Theo answered and my father seemed to swell with pride when he described me in that manner.
The next second, Theo’s palm was making contact with my arm, caressing the soft flesh.
I swallowed in disgust, wondering what gave him the guts to lay his slimy fingers on me, then I recoiled my arm from him and put some more distance between us.
“If it’s not too invasive, do you mind me asking what happened? I was barely given any details over the phone,” my father asked.
“We’re practically family, so it’s definitely not invasive,” Theo assured him, “Alpha was shot on his way home from the airport, and we've not been able to fish out the culprits because the only witness to the crime was his driver who is in a more critical condition.”
“The bullet used wasn't ordinary, else his wolf would’ve recovered by now. We’ve been assured that the best doctors are joining heads to foster his recovery,” Theo paused, his eyes glazing over me like I was a stick of candy he couldn't resist.
“….but even though the gods do us a disservice by taking him, I’m willing to take his stead and inherit his responsibilities, be it political or marital.”
A bile formed in my throat upon hearing. How shameless of him to lay claim to me when his brother was fighting for his life?
My father was about to respond when something beeped and called our attention to the pager in Theo’s hands. He glanced at it and then pressed his lips together seriously.
“That’s the doctor signaling to me that we can go into the room,” Theo announced, leading the way already.
We followed behind him, stepping into a room with beeping monitors and the Alpha’s injured body lying unconscious on a bed that was surrounded by two doctors and a nurse.
As soon as we walked in, the medical professionals in the room turned to us and from the cold look in their eyes, it was certain that they didn't have good news to share.
“Can I speak to the immediate family members in my office? There's been a few changes that I’d like to discuss,” a middle aged woman addressed us and I assumed she was the lead doctor.
Sera and Theo nodded at her words, but I just settled into the couch and expected that my father would do the same since we weren't legally Alpha’s family.
“You’re family too, feel free to tag along,” Theo said to us and my father nearly leapt at the opportunity.
“I’ll just stay here,” I muttered in response just moments before the door was shut behind them.
Soon, their footsteps faded and I was all alone with Alpha. I took a good look at the pitiful state he was in, but no matter how much I tried to care about his predicament, I just didn't.
In fact, I was more overwhelmed with hatred than pity.
This man was the reason why my hard work amounted to nothing. He was the horrid being that made me feel like my worth was tied to my body. He represented the fact that I would soon be reduced to nothing but a housewife and baby making factory.
You could end it all. Take back your life.
I felt an overpowering need to listen to that voice sink in, like my life depended on giving into that dark desire to turn my life back around while I had the chance.
As twisted as it seemed, all I wanted to do was grab a pillow and smolder Alpha with it while taking pleasure in how he struggles till his last breath.
I would not just be saving myself, but I'd be getting vengeance for every woman he's belittled and ruined for his pleasure, I’d be doing Karma’s job while putting back a smile on my lips as I take over my father’s company.
The more I weighed the benefits, the more enticing my plan seemed.
I should do it. Right f*****g now.
I sucked in a sharp breath, deciding to grab a pillow and get it over with before I chicken out. I picked up my weapon of choice, my hands trembling as I neared him….
“I can do this. I can do this. I can d—”
I nearly jumped out of my skin when my phone vibrated in my purse that second and the pillow slipped out of my hands and unto the carpeted floor noiselessly.
Dragging in a deep breath, I pulled out my phone and glanced at the text notification.
