Chapter 4

1250 Words
Inima’s POV It was my coronation day, and the packhouse was gleaming with excitement. It was also a busy day for everyone, and a day I was eagerly anticipating. I felt proud and hoped that my father looked down on me with pride too. I was going to be the first female Alpha of the Scarlet Heart pack. Being an only child, it took my father years of struggling to let the pack know that I was just as important, but that didn't come without a price. The extra tasks thrown at me were to prove my worthiness and now we are here. “It feels surreal,” I said, watching the town from my chamber window and waiting to be called upon. “Princess Inima,” a maid, came to get me from my chambers. It was the last time she was going to regard me as a princess. I walked through the hallway to the court for the coronation, holding up my powdered blue quince dress, and waiting for the crown, the perfect accessory to my beautiful off-shoulder dress. The crowd was cheering and clapping when I walked in, and responded with smiles and waving of my hands. “We are gathered here today, now delighted to have…” The head of the pack house officials started. I sighted Styr, behind the crowd and stretched my hands out, gesturing to him to come forward. I was lost in his eyes, I disconnected from the official speech, watching Styr take step after step until he was close to the stage. “Princess Inima,” the head of officials, Jhar, called, as he waited for me to get on my knees, so I could be crowned. “I would not be accepting this crown as Alpha,” I said. The crowd gasped. *Instead,” I said, holding my hand out to Styr, who had arrived at the stage. “I would be serving beside my mate,” I stared into his violet eyes with dreaminess. Styr went on his knees to receive the crown, but Jhar seemed reluctant. “Inima,” he called, skepticism evident in his tone. I gave an affirmative nod. He placed the crown on Styr, and the crowd didn't seem quite happy about it. Their clapping was weak, but I assumed it all came from a place of shock. “Bow before your Alpha, Scarlet Heart pack!” Styr said, in a very authoritative tone, lifting his hands in the air. I smiled at him, seeing how excited he was to be Alpha. I waited for him to send for the crown and immediately made me Luna, but instead he said, “The ceremony is dismissed!” More shock enveloped the crowd. I, on the other hand, was just glad to be here and with him. “But Alpha, a lot of preparations have gone into this ceremony,” Jhar said. “You dare to challenge me?” Styr drew closer to him in fierce angry steps. “Not a single food grain would leave this royal house, nor would a single drop of drink,” Styr said. “And you,” he picked Jhar by the neck, lifting him off the ground, “I'm feeling excited today,” Styr was choking Jhar to death, and the pack had their attention on me. I was equally taken aback by his sudden rude behavior. “Today would have counted as your last,” he told the official. “Styr,” I took a few steps to him, holding his arm. He threw Jhar against the stair railing, and he landed with a terrible thud, breaking his back against the railing. “Would anyone have any questions about the food and coronation preparations?” Styr asked the crowd. No one dared to say another word. “I thought so,” he said, “Now, leave!” he ordered. Everyone fled in a thousand directions out of the courtroom. It was like a wave of terror washed over the pack. He walked angrily out of the courtroom and I followed behind him. ‘What is happening?’ He changed pretty quickly, and it scared me, but I followed him, believing there was a logical explanation. ‘Perhaps he's just in a bad mood,’ I thought, running after him, trying to catch up with his giant steps. He walked into my chambers, slamming the door in my face. “Styr? Is everything okay?” I asked, as I slowly walked into the room. He turned around, terrifying me with his blazing red eyes. “What is wrong with you?” All my queries came from a place of genuine concern. “Go get me something to eat, Inima,” his voice was very authoritative, “Don't just stand there!” He yelled. I was terribly shaken, but ran right out to get him something to eat. I hoped that the monster he was becoming was a result of the lack of food he ordered. ‘Run, Inima!’ Zoe surfaced. “Run?” I thought out loud. ‘Is this a joke?’ He had just arrived here. Father always spoke about being beside our mate through thick and thin, and now I was supposed to run? I ignored Zoe's prompt and went to get Styr's food. Since the packhouse was still in chaos, from Styr's display, I found it difficult to locate the meals prepared for the event. The maids and guards ran in different directions, setting their eyes on me, making the hallway and courtroom chaotic. “Princess Inima?” My personal maid called. “Oh, thank the goddess,” I expressed relief, seeing her. “Bring me a luxury tray,” I instructed. She acted promptly, but it still took another ten minutes for the luxury tray to be ready, especially since everyone was now in hiding. “Let me have that,” I stretched to collect the tray. “It's fine ma'am, I can just…” she said. “I insist,” I replied. I got the food from her, and headed up to my chambers. In the hallway, I saw a couple of guards moving things away from my chambers. I struggled not to jump into any conclusions and followed quietly until I got to the room. It was quite a mess, with more things leaving the chambers by the second. “Styr,” I called softly, “what is happening here?” I probed. “This isn't befitting for an Alpha,” he said. “What do you mean?” I asked, rhetorically, “I took over this space from my father,” I said. “Well, then, it's not befitting for an Alpha of my status,” he said, rolling his eyes. The guards didn't stop their operation. It was almost like I was invisible, and they didn't care about my presence. “Take that piece of trash away from here,” Styr ordered one of the guards. “That belongs to my mother,” I protested, placing the food tray on a table surface and running towards him. He pushed me away, like a piece of paper, and didn't show the slightest care that I had landed on the floor. “This is unacceptable!” I yelled. “Clearly, you have a loud mouth,” Styr responded. “And I know just the thing,” he said. “Take her to the dungeon!” he ordered, throwing myself and all the guards in utter shock.
