Chapter 2

Inima's POV CONTINUES Styr had to be the best thing to happen to me on this quest, and maybe in my whole life. We walked through the dark woods together until we came to a huge tree, with open branches and a strong root system, bulging out of the ground. “There's your golden fruit, princess,” he said, pointing right into the tree. I took a peak and saw just how succulent and shiny it was. I placed my backpack on the ground to begin climbing the tree. “What are you doing?” Styr asked. “Trying to get my fruit” I responded, but not without confusion. ‘Was my action not obvious enough?’ I thought. “You are a princess, huh?” He said jestily. He pulled out an arrow from the quiver he had behind him and fired it right at the golden fruit. He only needed one shot to bring it down and one quick move, go catch it. ‘Isn’t he the dreamiest?’ I thought, filled with mushiness as I stared at him. Not only did he look dazzling, he was every letter of the word in power- a befitting mate for an Alpha. He handed me the golden fruit, which I quickly slipped into my backpack. “I should probably get you out of here before you kill yourself on your way out,” he said, walking away from the tree. “Thank you,” I replied, walking right behind him. We took a walk through the woods for a while, in utter silence, until… “If I may ask, why are you out here?” I initiated a conversation. “If the dark woods are as dangerous as they say, why are you here? Do you live here? Or you're also on a quest?” I threw question after question. “Wow, Princess, you have so much you want to know, huh?” He replied. “Looks like you're not half-ready to be an Alpha yet,” he said. My countenance immediately dimmed, hearing him say that. I had been training for the longest time, but he was right, being out here proved to me that I wasn't half-ready to be Alpha yet. “Not all of us get the luxury of a roof over our heads, Princess,” he said. I was going to raise another concern, when he said, “I think you should be able to locate your pack here. I looked in the direction he pointed and sighted the tip of the royal house in the pack. “Thank you,” I appreciated again. He bowed his head and watched me leave. I took a few steps away but ran right back to throw my arms around his neck in a long and tight embrace. He had his hands wrapped around my waist, and I was soon off the ground, with my legs wrapped around his waist. I was still staring into his violet right eye, the most fascinating thing about him, when he pressed a kiss on my lips, and I was quick to reciprocate. We were locked in a passionate kiss for minutes, and when we took a break to stare into each other's eyes, we caught the orange rays of the rising sun. “You should go,” he said, “it's not a conquering quest if you don't arrive by daylight,” he added, dropping my feet to the ground. My heart was heavy, as I thought of leaving him, but heavier because the strong stranger did not make mention of me being his mate, nor did he speak of his desire to be with me. I walked to the pack house and arrived just in time for the recognition of my victory. “Today, the princess has made us proud, and ascended a step closer to the throne, after her father.” Jhar, my trainer and the head of the pack house officials announced to the pack that was gathered, in anticipation of my return. The crowd was cheering and clapping, but my mind was far away, and my heart only fixed on the dazzling stranger. “Three more steps and there would be a coronation ceremony for the young princess,” Jhar continued. The cheering and clapping of the crowd became singing and laughter, and I was too exhausted for that, so I went up to my chambers for a quick bath. Through my bath, and after, I had Styr on my mind. I carried the sweet memories of him in my heart, from our start to saving my life and conquering my quest with such ease. I retired to bed that morning, with a smile permanently plastered on my face. “I've been out here for years, and when you have been in the woods for the longest time, you learn to survive, You learn its dos and don'ts,” I can still hear his voice in my dreams. I heard a soft knock on the door. I didn't quickly get it, since I was still weak and didn't want to get over the Styr fantasy. “Princess Inima,” I heard a call follow. I reluctantly sat upright and stared at the door. “Princess Inima,” the knocking persisted, and he called again. “Come on in,” I ordered. One of the packhouse domestic staff slowly pushed the door open. “May I help you?” I questioned her. “The pack house officials would like you to get ready for dinner with them by 8 pm ma'am.” She reported. I rolled my eyes. My life has only had one official duty or the other, since my father died, and since I started drawing closer to the year of my ascension, it has only got worse. “Alright,” I replied, immediately dismissive. It was already 6:30 pm and I found it hard to believe that I had been asleep for the last twelve hours. I went back to the bathroom, to shower and then changed my clothes into a dinner suit. I had nothing but a towel on when another knock came on the door. I took a glimpse at the time and found that there were only a few minutes left until 8 pm. I went over to the door, ready to descend on the na. “I will be on my way...” I flung the door open and, with a little ranting, found that, contrary to my thoughts, it wasn't at all the maid at the door. “Styr?” I called in shock. “You didn't think I was going to leave you, did you?” He asked.
