The Beauty And The Coward
Aria watched herself get adorned by her maids, her pale white skin glowed in the warm lights as her green eyes sparked with curiosity. A maid applied a bit of red color on her lips as she leaned back to admire the beauty in front of her; her smile soon turned gloomy as she put her face down immediately. Aria saw her facial expression change as she hummed in understanding. She was going to be a bride today…or she was going to get sold off. She didn't quite know the difference. She could hear the slow and sad heartbeat of her maid, Irene. She had been attending to hair before she could speak, maybe that's why she felt gloomy, either that or she just pitied her. She was pitiful…. A bride invited her to her own wedding. *Cough* She let out a small cough as the maid's eyes widened in horror. “I instructed all the curtains to be closed, why is it still cold in here?” The rest of the maids scrambled as they lit more candles and cast spells to make the room hotter. “Hand me the princess's coat” A big white fluffy coat was put on Aria as she let out a small mutter of, thank you. Irene looked at Aria's white skin as another surge of pity filled her eyes. “You look gorgeous, your highness,” she said with a sad smile. Looking into the mirror, Aria couldn't recognize herself. She didn't recall the last time she dressed up so heavily, but today…today she was covered in jewels, and her face was made up with colors that made her look ethereal. Savannah's face flooded with tears as she admired the child she grew up protecting. She looked so fragile, like her skin was made of thin glass. But she was such a beauty to behold. A quiet knock was heard on her door as one of the servants opened it. A dark purple eye was seen from his armor; his eyes immediately met Aria's own as his mood turned sad. The servant bowed in respect as he gave a small bow back. “It's time, princess Aria.” Those words cut through her like a knife and for a moment she felt lost. Looking up to meet Rowan’s sad ones, she immediately gained her composure back and gave him a nod of acknowledgment. The time had finally arrived. He let out a small smile as he closed the princess's door. He felt pitiful as he could feel his heart shattering. Irene slowly put the gold glittering veil on Aria with the help of other servants, and at this point, her tears were freely rolling down her cheeks. It was like her own daughter was getting married. The final step was done as she gave the princess a small bow. Aria in turn pecked her on her cheeks. “Your highness…... please take care of yourself.” She was fearful of how well the princess would be taken care of, and even more fearful of her husband. Only the king knew who he was, though many speculations had been going around. Aria nodded as she made her way to the door. It was opened for her, and she saw Rowan standing tall in his armor. Turning back, he saw the most beautiful bride there had ever been, and his heart skipped a beat. He curved his elbow as Aria placed her fingers in them, and they started heading towards the stairs. His smile was cold; he was holding the woman he loved the most and delivering her to a stranger. Perhaps he and Aria would have a chance at another life, another life where she was not so far out of his reach. But not this life, because no matter how tall he stood, he could never stand tall enough to reach the sky....talk more of taking a star. Aria's face turned paler as the hall became in view. The room was crowded with people far and wide as she immediately realized that her father had opened the gates….was her husband not going to be a citizen on NightVeil? The hall was crowded as it looked like the entire enchanted nation was there. She tried looking for a prospective suitor in the crowd, but she didn't even know where to start. Knowing her father, she might as well get married to an elf. They finally got to the middle of the hall as Rowan's hand seemed to hold on tighter. He didn't imagine it was going to be this painful. Giving him a small pat, he immediately gained composure as he slowly released his hand. His heart skipped faster when he opened his mouth. “You won't forget me…. Right?” She stopped as she slowly turned her head and gave him a little smile. It was a very unnoticeable conversation, so silent that it seemed like it never happened, but his heart seemed to have completely shattered. He wanted to say, don't go, he wanted to pull his sword out to stab anyone who got in their way…. Or stab himself because he was too cowardly to see the love of his life get married. But instead, he muttered those pitiful words, and Aria…. Aria gave an even more pitiful response. Walking to the throne, she saw her father stare down at her with no emotion in his eyes. She always wondered what he thought of her, but he was never around long enough for him to get a reply. Her mother's eyes looked gloomy, but she didn't have a say, so she tried to let out a small smile to assure her. She bowed her head in greetings to her parents as she walked closer to her father to touch his feet. He took a deep breath as he slowly patted her head. His hands felt cold as she immediately took her seat. The king stood up as he instructed the music to start playing immediately.
