Chapter 3

"Then what happened?!" Gigi demanded. "What do you mean? We danced, and when the music ended we parted and I left," Angeline explained.     She didn't have the courage to tell them that he had pulled her in for a kiss before they  separated. She felt to guilty. It was an amazing kiss, so mind blowing that she almost forgot about that night. The night she watched him kill HER.     Her two friends full of disappointment, hoping that her night was filled with romance. Neither knew exactly how she knew Alex, and she was terrified to divulge the whole truth. She only mentioned that they were friends back in high school and after graduation they didn't keep in touch. Which was completely true. Graduation night was when everything changed and was the last time she had seen him.     After her friends had left, Angeline found herself lost in her memories. She remembered the first time she met Alex. It was freshman year. And as she entered her home room class she was met with those eyes. Her cheeks blushed when she realized she had been staring at him.     Finally making a move to take a seat he said, "This one's available." Motioning to the chair right next to him. She smiled and sat down, "Thank you. I'm Angeline." He smiled back, and said, "I'm Alex." His next question will always make her laugh, especially thinking about that goofy smirk he had on. "So are you an Angel, Angeline?" She tried so hard not to laugh right in his face, so she just shook her head. Thankful the bell rang and their teacher started talking, and Angeline didn't have to think of what to say next to him.     Once people learn of her name they always ask the same thing or ask the meaning. Which of course it means 'Angel', and she always thinks back to that moment when Alex was the first one to ever ask her that. And it's always hard not to smile at the memory.                 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~                          Angeline had been lost in her thoughts of Alex all day. She thought about all the fun they had, and all the goofy things he would say and do. Especially any time when he was trying to  cheer her up. He was an amazing friend and she had been so thankful for him.     She noticed it was starting to get dark out and decided she would go grab something for  dinner instead of making something. She grabbed her phone and dropped it into her purse. She made her way to her front door and right as she opened it she was met with those eyes once again. She stopped right in her tracks and all those happy memories were washed  away. And she was left with the last memory she had of him.     "What are you doing here?" Angeline asked Alex. "I still needed to speak to you and you  could've easily ignored my calls or texts. So face to face was my only option," he said with a smile. He was hoping his charm would do the trick tonight. But by the look in her eyes he was going to have to work a lot harder than that.     "Well I don't have time now, I'm extremely busy," she tried to get out before her stomach let out a thunderous growl. Informing Alex that maybe she was on her way to dinner, and  thinking of a plan to finally get a chance to talk with her without any interruptions.     Alex gave her a toothy smile before saying, "Sounds to me like you could use something to eat. I'm pretty famished myself, will you please join me for dinner? My treat!"     Angeline knew she wasn't going to get away from him. Hell he spent thousands of dollars just so she would spend the previous evening with him. She knew he wanted to speak with her at the ball, but she wasn't going to give in that quickly. He was persistent and wouldn't just go away, so she figured she needed to hear him out.     "Fine," she replied, "But I get to pick the place." He couldn't help the smile that creeped  along his face. And she only glared harder at him. "Ok, I'm good with whereever as long as it's you and me," he finally told her.     They were sitting in a cozy booth at the back of the diner, the smell of bacon over powering everything else. The waitress had already taken their order and after flirting shamelessly with Alex right in front of Angeline, they had been sitting in silence. Neither really knowing what to say after that.     Eventually their food was delivered and after they both got their fill, Alex finally got the courage he needed to start spilling the beans.     He took a deep breath and started, "Angeline I think we're in danger." She looked at him in shock, her mouth fell open and before she could say a word Alex continued. "I've been getting messages from Amelia," he said in a calm voice.     Angeline couldn't help the strange expression that grew on her face. And once again her mind drifted back to high school and a memory of the first time she saw Alex and Amelia together stood out.                     ~~~FLASHBACK~~~                                          "You look amazing tonight Angeline," Alex whispered in her ear as they danced to a slow song the DJ was playing. "Thank you Alex. You look really handsome in a tux," she replied.     Angeline looked around the high school gym at all the tacky prom decorations, and couldn't  believe that they would be graduating next week. She was terrified and nervous, but not about leaving for collage but because she has been wanting to talk to Alex for a while now about her feelings. Feelings that she has for him. She didn't know the exact moment she realized she was in love with him and wanted more than just a friendship, but it's been torture keeping this secret from him. Ever since freshmen year they have been inseparable. They started off as best friends and now she was hoping that it could be more than that. She fantasized about what it would be like to kiss him. She had come up with a plan to tell him how she felt and hoped that he would feel the same way. Then she would make her fantasy a reality.     She was hoping that when Alex had asked her to their Senior Prom that maybe he felt the same way. When the song ended they parted and went back to their table. "Would you like some more punch?" Alex asked her before he sat down. "Yes, thank you," Angeling answered. She watched him walk towards the table with all the refreshements on it. Then out of no where a beautiful blonde walks up behind him, causing him to turn around and she starts kissing him.     Angeline didn't know what to do. It felt like her heart had been ripped from her chest. She had no idea who the girl was. She remembered Alex talking about a girl he went out with a couple of times but it wasn't anything serious. Or that's what he told her. Maybe it evolved  into something more before Alex had the chance to tell her about it. But then why did he bother asking her to prom if he had a girlfriend?     She felt a huge wave of embarrassment rush over her and she had to get out of there. She  didn't want to be introduced to the blonde bombshell, especially after knowing the plans she had for the evening were now ruined.     She quickly stood and headed for the exit. She thought she heard Alex call her name, but she wasn't about to turn around. Not when she knew they would never be together. She was  already trying to hold the tears back. One look at the two of them and it would be all over. Her emotions on her face for everyone to see.              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~                                         "Angeline are you ok? You've been in a daze for a few minutes now," Alex pulled Angeline  from her thoughts. She blinked her eyes a few times, shaking her head at the memory that was clouding her thoughts.     She looked at him and finally responded to the information she had been given. "What do you mean? How can you be getting anything from Amelia when she's dead? You shot her, she's dead!"
