Two days after Nica’s car accident, I had the day off. I went over to my parents’ house to play pool with my dad in the garage like we often did. “You’re playing like s**t again,” he commented as I missed what could’ve been an easy shot.
I scowled at him.
“Worrying about her isn’t going to get her back to work any faster.”
“I know,” I sighed, picking up the chalk. Realistically, I knew she was fine. Yes, she was injured, and the injuries weren’t good, but they were injuries she could heal from. Inside though, I couldn’t shake the thought of how much worse it could’ve been. If she had slammed into the back of that truck…her little Toyota wouldn’t have been able to handle that. She wouldn’t have been able to. Or if her car had rolled. Or if she hadn’t been wearing her seatbelt.
