The Chase and Death
Arielle's POV Fear and anxiousness gripped me as I swirled my head back to peak at the pack wolves chasing after me. They were now a whole lot of them running after me and it looked like the entire packs were chasing me. I returned my face back to the front and I could hear the thumping of my heartbeat even when I was in my wolf form. I increased my pace. I didn't want them to catch up with me but I knew it wasn't possible. Numbers of wolves were running after me, how possible was it for me to escape from them? But I needed to survive. If I ever try to reduce my pace for a second, I will definitely witness my own death with my very eyes. Their growl only was enough to swallow me up yet was there a way I could get away from them? I continued to hit my paws across the branches and bushes under my feet, trying my best to make sure while I gaze at the front, I was also watching my steps. I must not stumble, it would be the worst time of my life. I kept running, racing hard through the woods. I suddenly saw the cliff ahead of me and I knew it was the end of me. What have I done? Why must there be a cliff in the path I took? Why was life treating me so unfair? As usual, there was still no answer to my rhetorical question. Still, I didn't stop hauling towards the cliff, mumbling a silent prayer in me that a miracle should happen so that it wouldn't be a cliff but a way for me to run through, but then, it was a cliff. A high cliff located on the mountain. I was lost. Was I meeting my demise this time? As I approached the cliff, I started to slow down my pace. It wasn't so easy to make such a decision but I did anyway. I just couldn't run off a cliff. I finally got to my stance and turned around to see the multiple wolves still coming at me. They had also slowed down and were advancing towards. I felt a drop of water stain my left eyes and my wolf made a loud growl at the wolves approaching me but it wasn't enough to scare them away. They kept taking advantage of me at the cliff, knowing there was no where to go while I kept taking slow strides backward, making sure I wasn't reaching the tip of the cliff unless I was ready to die. My wolf made a growl and this time, it was very loud enough to echo through the forest. Just then a voice pushed its way into my head and mindlinked me. "You have to stop now, Arielle. Your punishments await you." I raised my head to look at the pack armies commander who had just mindlinked me and even though he sound playful, his eyes were filled with terror. "You dare kill the Alpha and want to run away?!" The Beta snapped and I shook my head, wanting to say a word but what could I possibly say? I had just killed the Alpha of my pack, what other guts do I have? All I just needed was to get away from all the angry wolves because for sure, they were going to tear me into pieces. They kept advancing and I was left with no other option than to peak at the cliff once away. "Help me, help me," I prayed silently in my heart knowing that jumping off the cliff meant my death. I would die and wouldn't be able to survive but what if I survive? I glanced forward and the commander was almost at my feet. "If I survive this…" I said and paused in my mind, looking across the pack of wolves snarling angrily at me, having no idea that I was the one who was supposed to be angry. "I will get my revenge, Oscar," I thought, referring to the Alpha who had caused me nothing but pain. "I will come back and destroy your pack!" As soon as I finished swearing to myself, I took slow strides backward to the cliff and in a second, I saw myself dangling into the air at full speed with my wolf shifting back to my human form almost immediately. I tried swaying my hands in the air to catch my breath but there was nothing like that. I kept falling, my eyes shut close waiting for the arrival of my death. There was a loud thump and I opened my eyes to see that I had fallen into a water, not just water but an ocean. I was about to think I would finally survive when I remembered that I can't swim. With that thought, I began to struggle inside the water, choking on my breath, not able to hold back the water entering into my nose. No! It was not yet time to die. It would be so awful to just die this way. I had survived a lot and dying now meant I didn't gain anything in my entire life apart from pains. "Moon goddess, if truly you're alive and watching. Is there a way to save me from this situation? At least, let me live to avenge the years of suffering I had faced all my life back in the pack," I thought so uncomfortable to myself as I sank deeply into the ocean unable to fight the water from swallowing me up again. I was indeed gone. Suddenly, a wave in the water hit me and I flung my eyes open to see them shone out brightly like golden rays. It felt strange at first and I was breathing normally, giving me another thought that I might have ended up in heaven. Just when I was reminiscing how my eyes were shining out golden rays, a golden light that took the shape of a wolf engulfed me and I found myself floating straight in the water. Everything became magical to me but then was I truly alive? My wolf never had this ability to shone out so golden and majestic. It was as if I had just been awakened after getting unconscious in the water. What if I was awakened?
