Chapter 1
Dear diary It's me, Kendra again. Okay so here's the deal when I was six my father got some big chance to work in Sweden to develop some new medical breakthrough which meant that I've lived most of my life in Europe, in Sweden more precisely. I did do one term in Italy a few years back but I've made some promises to never talk about it again. Let's just say my father wouldn't be very proud of me. I was rich and spoiled didn't even care for the law or any rules, I'm not saying I'm not rich and spoiled anymore but at least I think I have some awareness of what is right or wrong, I am a lawyer now after all. Anyway we're getting off topic so I've lived in Sweden for the past, what has it been, 18 year. So you can understand how I am both relieved and terrified about the fact that I am of moving back to the States today. I barely speak english anymore since I moved here. I had become fluent in Swedish after about two years. I talked to the flight attendance in swedish even when she wasn't swedish and didn't understand a single word I said. It's all about habits I guess. "This is your captain speaking, we are soon landing at LAX so please take your seats and fasten your seatbelts." Sorry for that. Apparently my new life in LA is about to begin so I'll talk to you later. Kisses I write the last word in the journal on my phone and put it in my purse before looking over at my dad. He was giving me a smile across the aisle, he was so excited to finally move back but we both know it won't be the same. Not since mom died and she broke the news about me being a witch. That was a fun little twist in my life at eighteen on my mother's deathbed. The whole 'I'm dying now and oh by the way I've been lying to you your whole life because you're a witch. I love you my darling. Oh and your father doesn't know' is awesome. Or not. But we're making the best if it, at least I'm trying to, for my dad's sake. I smiled back at him before returning to the magazine and drink in my pod. I honestly have no idea how to survive without first class or private jet, I wasn't born to be that close to people for that long. I know I sound like a typical rich kid for saying things like this but that's just how it is. I’m not dumb or anything like that at least, I just graduated from university, lawyer program in Stockholm. I had to take the American bar as well which was a drag but if I wanted this line if work even in LA I had too. So next week I’m starting with this law firm in Beverly Hills, 'Reacher, Milton and Long'. I run my fingers through my long blonde hair and pull it into a loose bun on my head before taking the last sip of my drink. Just as I finished it the plane was about to land. The nerves kicked back in, I thought I was done with that but I guess not. I feel the laws of physics pull me forward in my seat and once it stopped I knew we were safely on the ground again. ”You got everything honey?” Dad asked me as he put hit tablet back in his bag. ”I’m fine dad, just my purse and magazine so I’m fine.” He always worry about me, maybe he wouldn’t worry as much if he knew I was a witch and that I was the one people should be afraid off. Or maybe that would make him worry even more. But that’s just dad, like any other parent he worries no matter how grown up you are. ”Okay, let’s go to our new home then.” He said with a smile as he got up and walked towards the exit. The sad part is that he thinks I’ll be living with him for a long time but I haven’t had the courage to tell him I had already signed the contracts for my beach house. I move in about a week or so. We walked through customs and got our bags without too much trouble, which might have something to do with a spell or two chanted under my breath by security. I had gotten a car through my new work to come and pick us up and take us to the house. We sat in awkward silence which I hate, so my stupid mouth spoke before I could stop myself, ”Dad..” ”What is it honey?” He smiled like he always did, filled with love. ”Nothing..” I backen out since I didn’t know what to say but it didn’t make it all go away, it only made him worry. ”Kendra, what is it?” He asked as his smile faded. ”Just that..” say something, anything will do! ”I thought about finding my grandmother.. I wanna know more about mom.” That was so not a good way to go.. f**k! Mom never talked about her family other than that they lived in L.A. and since mom died we never spoke about it either. ”Oh, okay.” The shock about my words were all over his voice. ”It’s just that mom never talked about them and they live here so I thought, why not.” I offered him an innocent smile. ”If it’s what you want than I won’t stand in your way.” He smiled back and gave me a side hug with a kiss on top off my head. ”Thanks.” We didn’t talk the rest of the way, which thankfully didn’t take that long. Once the car came to a stop the door was opened by the driver. ”Welcome home” He said, I think his name was Lucas or something like that. I should remember his name since he works as a driver for the firm and I guess I’ll meet him more frequently. ”Thank you.” I tell him as I climb out off the car. I walk towards the front door and waited for dad to come with the key. He unlocked the door and opened it for me. The things we had boxed up was already delivered along with some new furniture. I dropped my purse on the dresser by the door and started to look around. The first thing that I saw was a nice open kitchen to the left, it was modern with everything in white and metallic and an island with a faucet. I won’t lie, but this is exactly how I wanted my future kitchen to look like. All those clean line almost did it for me. A dream. Across the hall from the kitchen was what would be my bedroom, it was simple with a queen size bed, a closet that took up a whole wall and a desk. It looked like a real guestroom which made me feel a little bit better about not staying here for so long. ”I know it’s not much but it works right?” he sounded a bit nervous about me not liking it.  ”Of course dad, it’s not for forever so it’s fine.” I had just given myself a perfect time to tell my dad about my beach house. ”I know, it would be weird to still be living together when you meet someone. Kind of kills the mood to live with your father.” ”Yeah, totally.” I offered a smiled and backed out again.. We kept walking through the rest of the house. Next up was the living room that had a sort of bar thing between it and the kitchen. It held the same concept as the kitchen, open. It had floor to roof windows towards the backyard that had a jacuzzi to the left and a nice lounge set to the right. I could only imagine all the dinner parties and parents free parties that must have been hosted here. At the end of the living room there was a little hall that led to dad room and his office. Typically dad by having the bigger room as his office.. he really needed to chill with all the work he was doing. ”So what should we order as our first dinner here?” Dad asked as I was leaning against the open Windows-door to the yard. ”Wanna go classic and do pizza?” ”Like the old days?” ”Yeah, in three hours?” I asked and he just gave me a confused look as to why I asked when we would eat. ”I was gonna pick up my car and do some grocery shopping so I can get a good breakfast before going on my run tomorrow morning. Want me to pick something up for you as well?” ”Maybe some beers for dinner?” ”Sure thing dad. See you later.” I said and took my bag from the dresser and walked out the door. I had texted Lucas earlier asking him to pick me up to go and get up my car. Luckily the firm had told me that I could use him until I could drive myself. And I hate to use people when I can do it myself, especially when it didn't have anything to do with work.  I told him the address of a dealership once I got in the car. When we got there I thanked him and said that I wouldn't be needing him until after I actually started work on monday. He flirtatiously answered "I'll see you in a few day than miss Lewis. Hopefully you need a ride sometime soon." and winked at me before taking off. Men.. They always need to flirt when every woman they meet. I laughed a little before walked through the doors to the dealership. I walked straight to the desk and a young woman with a little too inappropriate outfit on "Hi, how can I help you today?" the woman asked with a large and fake smile.  "I called a yesterday about picking up my car?"  "Of course. How was your name?" she asked as she clicked on the computer in front of her. "Kendra Lewis." she nodded at my words as  typed on the keyboard in front of her.  "I'll just get Doug out here so you can sign the last papers and get the keys." her smile was a bit more genuine now as she dialed a number on her phone. "Doug, Miss Lewis is here to pick up her car." she sat silent for a few seconds before hanging up. "He'll be right out. Can I get you a coffee or something?"  "Coffee would be amazing actually. Thank you." I said as a tall but skinny man approached me, I assumed it was Doug. "Miss Lewis?" the man asked and stretched out his hand for me to shake.  "Yes" I took his hand.  "I'm Doug, let's go to my office to sign the last papers and then you will get the keys." he said with a huge smile on his face. He must be happy to have my sale on his list since I got a lot of extra s**t on it and I'm pretty sure this is the best sale he has made all year. Sure it's only march but still. I followed him to his office and sat down on the chair that was obviously for the costumer. Just as I sat down the woman from the desk walked in with my coffee. I thanked her before she walked out and closed the door behind her. Doug walked through the documents I was about to sign and when we got to the end I signed it and then he called some other guy to drive my car around to the front. We shook hand again before he followed me out to my brand new car that pulled up right when we got outside. This beautiful and sleek dark grey Porsche 718 Boxster. It was perfect and now it was all mine. My smile grew with every second of looking at it, the top was already down which was perfect for the weather of the day. "Your keys are in the ignition. Enjoy." The man who had driven the car said as he opened the door and got out but stayed by it so he could close it behind me. Which he did. "Thank you both." I said before driving away. This day just got so much better. I decided to drive the car to the ocean. There was just something about walking on the beach barefoot and dipping my toes in the ocean that really appealed to me. Thankfully the traffic was lights and it didn't take me long to get there. I got out of the car and once I reach the sand I kicked off my heels and picked them up before practically running towards the sea. I must have looked like a crazy person. Especially when I accidentally dropped one of my heels in the water and the waves were fighting to take it with them out to sea. I was chasing after a f*****g shoe on the shore.. If I didn't look weird before I certainly did now. Just as I got a hold of the heel a big wave came crashing in, making me lose my balance. I was mentally trying to remember a spell to me up right as I was falling down when I felt a pair of arms bringing me back up. A pair of strong, masculine arms that screamed LA. He was tan and I just knew he was handsome by the way he was holding me up. Don't ask me how I know that, I just do.  I find my center again before I turn towards my saviour to thank him and I'm lost for words. I can never be in a position where my body freezes and I can't speak, I'm a lawyer for crying out loud. He was only wearing shorts and a smartwatch. I could see airpods in his ears as sweat drips from his face in an oh so sexy way. He must have noticed my lack of social skills as he speaks first. "Are you okay?"  "Yeah, thank you. The current is a lot stronger here, I think I will need to remember that in the future." "You're not from around here are you?" my saviour asks me. "Actually I lived here when I was a kid before moving to Europe. I just moved back."  "Well in that case, welcome back. I'm Marcel." he flashes me a smile that makes my heart melt. He keeps eyeing me as I don't say anything back. "And your name is?" he continues and I mentally facepalm myself at my bad social skills. "Oh I'm sorry, Kendra. Kendra Lewis." "It's nice to meet you, Kendra Lewis. Don't let the waves wash you away." and with those words he was jogged off across the beach.
