Blurb

For two years, I loved the boy who refused to claim me. Silas was my first love, my secret, and according to the Moon, my fated mate. There was only one problem: I don’t have a wolf. At Nightshade Academy, wolfless wolves don’t become top warriors. They don’t stand beside Alphas neither do they get claimed by them. So when Silas told me to become strong enough to stand beside him, I believed him.I trained, bled and waited for the right moment. And on the night I finally became a warrior, I thought he would finally choose me. He chose my sister. Then, in front of the entire Academy, he rejected me. I expected my fragile wolfless heart to rupture and I’ll die like every other rejected wolfless female but it didn’t rupture and I in fact, did not die. Someone else took the brunt of my pain. The Alpha King fell to his knees in pain that was meant for me. Now everybody has questions as to why the rejection felt that way…

1-Blythe
~BLYTHE “Go Silas!!” I screamed from the bleachers making my mate laugh as he dribbled the ball straight to the court. He finished practicing all alone in the field then jogged towards me. It’s just the two of us Sunday morning. I wake up around five am everyday to come to practice with him before other team players join him. And honestly, he is best when it comes to this football thing. Silas switched to his wolf (a giant black thing with bright orange eyes) then back to his form. I screamed and giggled because it always gets to me and he knows that. He does that to entertain me as my reward for coming with him. And the fact that I’ll never have a wolf of my own makes it more special. I’m one of the cursed wolves that will never have a wolf form because every family in the Stormhowl family has one member that won’t have a wolf. The curse fell on me. “Today’s sweat is too much.” I wrinkled my nose as he shook his wet hair on me. “Right? My wolf has been acting up the whole night.” He sat down on the seat beside me and I passed a towel to him as usual. He cleaned the face, drank some water and relaxed. “Why?” I tilted my head hoping he’d mention something about the mating bond. Silas shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know what Sil wants this time around. He hasn't talked to me till now.” His wolf stopped talking to him after he spent a whole year telling me not to let anyone know that we were fated mates. A wolf cannot spend that long not claiming his mate and not when we are in close proximity all the time. Silas doesn’t want to admit that that is what his wolf is trying to tell him while I don’t want to appear desperate. I have loved him way before we found out we were fated mates. My father is the beta to his father so we are always in a social circle together. I stood up from my seat and stood in front of him. He stared at me with a frown and before I could lose my balls. I leaned down to kiss him but he quickly turned his face so my lips landed on his cheek. My face heated up in embarrassment as he pushed me away and stood up. I stumbled back with a gasp. “What the hell, Blythe?” He thundered, staring at me in horror as if I was about to defile him. I swallowed looking away. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what got over me. I thought that would help with Sil. I’m sorry.” “Why the f**k would a kiss from you do anything to Sil?” He growled, his eyes flashing orange in rage. I stepped back, never seen Silas this angry at me. “I’m your mate.” I argued with a frown. “What if he is throwing a tantrum because you are not claiming me as your mate? It’s been two years, Silas!” “It’s not about mating bond, Blythe.” He sighed, gathering me in his arms because I was shaking. I don’t like seeing him this angry. “Sil hasn’t hunted in a while and I don’t feel like answering to his whims.” “Ok.” I whispered, burning my face in his chest. “But don’t you want to claim me? We have one more year in this college until we graduate.” “I know and I told you. I cannot claim you without you having a sort of title to your name. You don’t have a wolf. My father won’t accept a wolfless and title-less female as my mate.” He explained, his voice sounding distracted. “Being third tier is hard.” I whispered with a secret smile because I’m already there and I want to surprise him with it soon. Being third tier in your second year of college was tough but I managed to do it. My master pushed me hard enough after I told him I needed the title to be claimed by the Alpha’s son. I understand why Silas cannot claim me. It won’t look good for him. But now I’m a third tier warrior in my second year. Nobody is going to challenge him about claiming me after I announced it to the world. “Soon.” He pushed me away when the door to the field opened. We turned to see cheerleaders coming out. Leona, my half sister, stepped forward with a grin. She is the cheerleading captain and everything I wasn’t. The curse didn’t extend to her because she got lucky and she never stopped rubbing it on my face. “Hi, sis! Hello, Silas.” She waved then continued coming towards us. I don’t like to sound cliche but Leona is everything I won’t ever be. Her blonde hair is straight from the bottle but it somehow fits her doe blue eyes. She is a year younger than me with a grey wolf that was voted for one of the most powerful of all the females in Nightshade Academy. “Hi, Ona.” He grinned, stepping forward to give her a hug. “Can I hitch a ride with y’all? I don’t feel fine practicing and I cannot drive myself back home.” She pouted at him and he shook his head. “Why not?” Silas turned around and started walking out of the field with Leona by his side. “Come on, Blythe.” He called like an afterthought. I shook my head. It’s probably nothing but I’m not gonna lie ever since Leona joined our dorm last year, things haven’t been the same. I don’t complain though. She helps with cleaning, does my laundry without me asking. Leona is a good kid whenever she isn’t around her mother. Before I could get to Silas’s Mercedes, Leona was already occupying the front seat and Silas was at the driver’s side. My eyes narrowed when I reached there but she wouldn’t even look at me. Not wanting to cause drama, I sat down at the back without saying a word and looked out the window. I wanted to check if my master has messaged me with the go-head to tell Silas I am now a third tier but I feel a bit numb. “Can I play a song? Pretty please?” Leona asked a minute into the drive with puppy dog eyes that made me cringe. That is not something Silas likes at all. He always reprimands me when I try doing it. “Go ahead.” Silas answered, shocking me to the bones. My eyes snapped to him but he was staring straight ahead at the windshield. Silas allowing anyone to play their own song??? We have been close friends for years and he has never allowed me to do that. “Silas?” I called out not able to let the matter drop. “Yeah?” He didn’t turn around and I’m not sure if he clocked what I was going to talk about or he just didn’t care. “You’re allowing Leona to play a song in your car.” I muttered beneath my breath but loud enough for them to hear. “What’s the big deal?” Leona sent me a sly grin because she knew it was a big deal. We had a big fight with Silas over this. “Yeah, what’s the big deal? It’s just a song.” He answered without turning around still.
