Amora's pov
"I am Professor Kane BlackStone, and I'll be taking you on computer science," he says as he introduces himself and smiles like the girl who he slept with last night isn't sitting in front of him as one of his students.
His calm baritone voice is like music to my ears, so calm and gentle that butterflies fill my stomach each time he glances at me, and I quickly panic and immediately look away.
"This semester we will all embark on a group research programme about artificial intelligence," he pauses as the rest of the class murmurs while I pray silently for the bell to ring and end the class.
"Yes, you are going to be shared into groups, but first I need an assistant. Any volunteers?"
A lot of hands raised high above their heads, like little kids being handed candy for the first time. His eyes darts around the class and slowly rests on me. I quickly sink my head onto my table.
"I think he wants you to be his assistant," Amanda whispers to my ears. I quietly lift my head; now everyone is staring at me.
"You there," he points at me and smiles slyly, and I narrow my eyes at him and quietly stand up. "What is your name?" He continued.
"My name is Amora," I mutter inaudibly.
"What?" He says it sternly, and I swallow hard.
"Amora, sir," I reply, and he nods slowly.
"You will be my assistant; now settle down," he orders, and I return to my seat while everyone eyes me and makes snide remarks with obvious jealousy that I got picked instead of them.
As he continued to speak, one question lingered in my heart and slowly hit my head on the table.
"Why me?" I whisper. As if him as my professor isn't enough, he also wants me as his partner, and that means us spending time together, and I can't deal with all that at all.
Soon the bell rings, and I scramble to my feet and quickly pack my bags while girls run to his table like flies to exposed food, including Amanda and Lily, all asking for his contact information.
They have no shame.
A little feeling of jealousy winds up at the back of my throat, and I quickly shake it off, but I can't stop thinking about last night and all the things he said to me.
I steal glances at him and notice he is doing so too. Hastily, I grab my bag and rush out before he gets the chance to stop me or ask me anything.
I walk out of the school block and see Stefen standing by his car with a grin so wide as his auburn shines beneath the mid-day sun. Since we are allowed to go home whenever we want, I called Stefen earlier today and told him to come pick me up because I am already missing home.
As I ran into his open arms, I couldn't help but notice how the girls were winking at him and catcalling him. Stefen is indeed very handsome, and they all murmur as they see me run into his arms.
"How was your first day?" he asks, pushing loose strands of my hair from my face.
"It was okay; I guess nothing spectacular happened," I reply, pulling away from his arms.
My bag was slipping from my shoulder, and as I turned to grab it,my eyes trail to the Kane class, and I saw him staring keenly at me. I ignore it and quickly get into the car. It would be nice if he thought Stefen was my boyfriend.
Maybe he would leave me alone.
"Father is throwing a party tonight," Stefen says as he reeves out of the school's parking lot.
My mind goes back to the one-night stand at the mention of the word "party".
"What for?" I ask.
"Well, I guess our pack is forming allies now for further recognition," he replies.
"Father and his political nature," I sneer, and he chuckles.
We get home, and I head straight for my room while everyone is busy getting ready for the party. Immediately, my phone beeps, and I quickly bring it out of my bag. It's the hook-up app saying I have made another match.
I'm yet to recover from the last match, and now there's another one? I quickly log out and immediately delete the app.
Two hours pass, and I hear calm jazz music coming from the living room, and I know it's time for the party.
I change into my purple corset dress with white straps at the back and dazzling silver stones around it. I pick out matching earrings and a gold necklace. My hair is tied into a tight bun with two strands dangling over my forehead.
I admire myself in the mirror and slowly slip into my glass heels before walking out the door to join the rest of the family.
Stefen is by the bannister, fully clad in a perfect black tuxedo, crimson red trouser, and matching black shoes, drinking a tall glass of champagne. I glide through the crowd, and finally I'm by his side.
"Where are father and mother?" I smile, and his eyes dart all over me.
"You look really elegant, my sister, and they are over greeting some guests; let's go meet them," he suggests, and I smile.
"Thank you; you look really good too. Shall we?"
I smile as we walk to where my father and mother were chatting with a man. I can't quite catch his face from this distance. But his side profile reminds me of someone I know too well; dread fills the pit of my stomach.
My smile fades as we finally meet them, and I hear that soft baritone of his.
My fear is confirmed, Kane. I don't understand. Have I offended the universe in any way?
"Amora, Stefen , say hello to my good friend Alpha Kane."
My heartbeat triples; its loudness takes away my ability to hear. I'm beginning to feel lightheaded as I try to maintain a straight face.
"This is my daughter," my father says, smiling at me. "And this fine young man is my son."
Kane, on the other hand, is very calm and is acting like he has never seen me in his entire life; he only takes chances to narrow his beautiful blue eyes at me, causing my body to long for him.
Alpha Kane? He is a werewolf.
"Welcome to our home." Stefen rescues my mind from its wandering state, and I manage to smile and show courtesy to him.
