TWO

The clock ticks and Lora opened her eyes tiredly although she has discard the thoughts off her head she still had a bad nightmare about what she saw last night rather than the excitement she felt the opposite way she look to her side and Fred was no longer there she sigh as she get up from the bed to watch her face when she heard a knock on the door

“Come in” she said lowly not sure if the person at the door heard her, carrying her breakfast in bed her mother entered the room followed by her daddy and Sean who was holding a small size birthday cake

“Happy birthday” they all screamed happily and gave her a hug each wishing her a long life and prosperity she force her smile at them as she blow up the candles

“Here sweetheart, it’s your breakfast in bed” her mum said sweetly and handed over her breakfast she took from her and drop it on the table nearest to the bed

“I would like to shower first” she requested, they all nodded and left the room just as Sean was about to leave the room Lora called him back

“Do you have any idea when Fred left?” she asked her smile gone again

“I’ve told you am not your boyfriend’s keeper” but the gloomy look on her face made him change his mind and answer her question

“He left just an hour ago and said he will be back for the party in the evening” he said and walk out leaving her to her privacy.

 It’s time for the party and Lora’s mood still haven’t improve she stare at her dress and felt reluctant to put it on all the excitement she was feeling days to the party seems to have vanished she can’t get the thought off her mind no matter how much she tried the thoughts just keep coming and she keep imagining different things in her head

“Why aren’t you dressed up Lora?” Chess yelled the moment she enter the room

 she was putting on a black dresses which matches with her black eyes, she held a lollipop in her hand as she walk in with Alexandra and Sarah

 Lora’s gaze settle on Sarah’s dress it was the same dress as hers just that the colors are different, she was putting on a red color while hers is pink

“did Fred also choose her dress for her?” she asked herself feeling a pang of jealousy as her eyes stayed fixed on the dress Sarah was putting on

“Are you even listening to me? Chess yelled to her face causing her to break her gaze

she look at Chess who was holding out her dress to her face, seeing the dress in Chess’s hands she shove it away aggressively astounding the girls by her action

“I change my mind, am no longer wearing this dress” she affirm giving them more shock

“What are you saying Lora? It’s already time for the party and you are needed downstairs” Alexandra stated and the girls agree with her

Sarah move closer to her and place a hand on her shoulder “is something wrong? You look upset” she asked with a worried look

Lora stare back at her and try to keep herself from asking the question that has been bothering her for hours now

“Is something going on between you and Fred?”

“What were you two doing together last night?”

 “Are you sleeping with Fred like I assume?”

These questions run through Lora’s head as she stare at Sarah who seems oblivious of what she was thinking she let herself calm down and she let a rigid smile replace the frown on her face

“Can you excuse me all of you I need to talk with Chess alone” she said and push the girls out leaving Chess with her in the room

“What’s going on?” Chess asked her

“I need you to get me another dress I don’t want to wear that dress anymore” she said

Chess look at her still confused she always wear whatever Fred chooses for her but seeing the expression on her face, she decide not to ask any questions.

The room was bubbly with cheers and excitement from the crowd of people who were having a nice time moving their body to the music playing

 Sarah move around the crowd welcoming the guest with a big smile on her face, with her fancy beautiful look she stole glances from everyone she stare at the banner on the wall which reads ‘Happy birthday Lora Carver and Sarah’ and her smile disappeared immediately. she look angrily at the sign wanting to tear it off she stretch her hands forward and it got caught by Fred who got to her side just in time, aware of her thoughts he pull her away from the banner and out of the room

“What are you thinking?” Fred yelled above the noise in the room

“let go of me Fred” she yell back and try to free her hand from his grip, not letting go

Fred pull her towards the stairs and they both head upstairs, getting to Sarah’s room he let go of her hand

“I told you to always calm down and be patient” Fred said  

“For how long do you want me to calm down and live under her shadow” she yelled angrily

“Can you keep your voice low? Someone might hear you” he cautioned but Sarah would have none of it

“I don’t care Fred, I don’t give a damn about that you promised me to break up with her soon, why isn’t that happening?” she yelled yet again

Fred cover her mouth with his palm and pleaded with her to keep her voice low she snatch his hands away from her mouth and move away from him

“If you can’t break up with Lora then let’s end things here” she blurted

“What are you saying babe? You know I will never chose her over you, just give me sometimes to figure things out with her I can’t just call her and ask to end things”

“I don’t know Fred, am sick of this affair we call love when will we get to show our affection for each other openly without being worried about anything else for more a year now we’ve been trying to keep things secret when exactly are you going to summon courage and tell her about us” she said looking sad and frustrated

 Fred led her to the bed and made her sit down he place her head on his shoulder and comfort her

“Very soon baby I will make sure to set things right just give me sometimes more” he persuaded, they remain that way till she was a little bit calm and no longer sad

“You know…yesterday was really fun” she said and let out a laugh

“I can’t believe how dumb Lora is to think we are planning a surprise for her, anyone would have figured out what we were doing last night” she said recollecting the incident and laugh out loud

“What if Lora is not as stupid as we thought?” Fred asked suddenly remembering how he met Lora after he went back to the room last night

“Why do you say that?”

“Yesterday when I went back to her room she look so sad and distressed, like she found out something”

“there’s no way Lora would find out and keep quiet about it, she would have flared up by now the spoilt rich brat wouldn’t just sit calm after finding out about our relationship” she said and dismiss the idea.

Lora made her appearance into the room with a magnificent saunter keeping a bright smile on her face everyone all shouted

‘Happy Birthday Lora’

she wave her hands in greetings as she appreciate everyone for coming to celebrate with her she walk down to the dancing floor while everyone made a move to every corner in the room making a circle around her she stood in the middle of the room.

just like her every other birthday party she call onto Fred for a dance but got murmurs from the crowd as they all start to look among themselves for Fred, just as she was about to call his name again she saw him walk down from the stairs with Sarah coming right behind him

the scene she saw yesterday came to her mind again but she quickly push the thought away she waited for him to get to her and hold her hands everyone all watch in amazement at the two lovely couple, almost everyone in the room know about their relationship as they once won the best couple in high school

Fred draw her closer and gave her a kiss on the forehead he wished her a happy birthday and whisper sweet words into her ears while she giggled in pleasure she planted a short kiss on his lips and smile after

Fred seems a bit lost and look forward towards the crowd surrounding them his eyes landed on Sarah and he looked apologetic, Lora noticed this but kept quiet and start the dance with him before everyone joined in the dance taking a partner each.

Soon foods and drinks were served and everyone help themselves to the nice treats, after the first dance Fred has excused himself and went over to Sarah to dance with her, though it’s something he has done for two years now but today Lora doesn’t feel right about it she watch the dance happily with an uncomfortable heart she made to go out of the room but got stopped by the person that appeared right in front of her

“Can I have this dance?”

Lora look up to see Justin holding out his hand in front of her, without hesitation she took his hand and start a dance with him during the dance Lora’s gaze couldn’t keep off the two in front of her enjoying every moment of the party, she kept stepping on Justin’s legs during the dance and keep on apologizing each time it happens

“Is something troubling you?” Justin asked noticing her mood

although she shook her head to answer no Justin could tell she wasn’t feeling so good she seems distracted by something he wanted to ask her what is bothering her but suddenly she excuse herself from their dance and rush out, curious to know what the problem could be, he decide to go with her to see the situation.

Outside on the balcony Sarah dragged Fred hands not letting go, she check to see if anyone was around, seeing they are alone she push him to a corner there and move closer to him she pull him into a hug, kissing him in the process they both had a steaming kiss for a long time stopping in between to catch their breathe

“Did you like it?” Sarah asked the smitten looking Fred who rested on the wall staring back at her without allowing him to answer she gave him another full kiss

“Between Lora and I whose lips do you prefer?” she asked again and covered his mouth in a French kiss, they both suck at each other’s tongue before pulling out

“I love your lips better” Fred respond and turn her around pushing her against the wall while he let his body overturn hers

Sarah loud giggling could be heard underneath him and soon enough the giggling turn to moans from the two.

Behind the walls not far from the two, Lora rested her body on Justin who was quick to catch her when she was about to fall, Tears clouded in her eyes about to fall she felt her heart thumps as she watch the two from a distance

she felt her an unbearable pain in her heart at that moment seeing her countenance, Justin swiftly turn her face to himself pulling her to an hug to prevent her from seeing the scene any further, she struggle under his hold but he won’t budge and made sure she couldn’t break free

after a while she calm down and let her tears pour freely as she held her chest to subdue the pain she was feeling at the moment but the more she tried the more tears keep coming, Justin took her away avoiding the crowd at the hall as they made their way up to her room once upstairs he closed the door and help her sit down.

“Are you okay?” he asked really concerned about her he has seen the whole scene with her and could imagine what is going on through her mind right now

“Get out!!” she said surprising him, he stare at her confused not sure if he heard her low croaky voice

“I want you to leave” she said again

“I know you are hurt but am just trying to help you here and I think you need someone to stay to console you”

“And you think that person is you?” she asked suddenly infuriated

“What made you think I can’t be of help, I’m a friend” he said not getting it

“A friend? You are Fred’s best friend and want to console his girlfriend who he’s cheating on? I don’t think so” she resorted firmly

“I might be his best friend but that doesn’t mean am in support of what he did”

“I just don’t want to see you at least not now so please leave Justin” she said, giving her a long look he finally walk out of the room leaving her alone, the moment he close the door behind him Lora break into tears and cry bitterly the feeling of being betrayed overshadowing her.
