The Faes Mate
POV - Aila
My name is Aila, I’m struggling to breathe never mind think right now. Gasping for air that’s burning at my lungs, staring at my usually fair arms now smothered in mud, blood, sweat and tears. Around me the chaos is calming the ground is still ablaze, my family, my kin folk, I can barely see to check if they are still breathing. Falling to my knees at the sides of each of the bodies strewn across this blood soaked field, tearing at Fae armour to feel for any signs of life beneath. The pounding in my ears has drowned out any noise until now, I hear a blood curdling scream that shattered my soul, I know that voice! “Màthair!!!” (Meaning mother in the old tongue) I shriek as my head snaps to the right locating the sound from my dear mother, what caught my eye made my blood boil, huge talons, retreating from her chest, her heart of gold dangling from one of those long black blade like toes. I stumbled trying to get up to fast for my legs to carry me, and scrambled to get up and sprint in her direction, I was only fast enough to catch her just before she hit the ground. I wanted to rush after that bastard and kill him this instant, but a weak, raspy voice broke my train of thought “Aila you must leave here, the world will burn, save… yourself my…” a large breath escaped her body and as it did I could faintly hear the word “love” as her eyes rolled back inside her head and her body went entirely limp. I could feel her warm blood turn cold as it seeped between the cracks of my armour, soaking my clothing but I didn’t care, she was gone, my world may aswell be ash already. I sat cradling her for what felt like hours. The sun had set, the night was deathly cold, the enemy had left, I assume they thought we were all dead. I lowered Màthairs body gently to the ground, closed her now milky eyes, and began to sing the Faes lament “Be free, let your spirit wander. Fill my heart with wonder, be free, be free…” my voice broke and a sob left my chest, no tears could come now, my eyes stinging, my heart aching I let myself scream, it came out sounding like a mighty roar. Standing up, I ran, as far as my legs could take me after battle, I ran until I collapsed, the last thing I felt was my head slamming off the ground, cracking the branches of the forest beneath me - but I knew even in unconsciousness, I was not home.
POV- Fenrir
I was walking through the forest, taking in the wonder, I knew the Fae were from around these parts, so they were the most beautiful areas of the woodlands. Stunning flowers that glowed due to being enchanted by the magical beings, almost like lanterns, though I suppose humans would call them “Faerie lights/Fairy lights” a sight to behold and one you could never get sick of. As I was marvelling at the home of the Fae I noticed the flowers begin to wilt rapidly as they lost their glow. My mind raced with all the possibilities as to why - Had I made them lose the magic held within them? God I hope not, strolling here was my guilty pleasure, one that no one knew about me and I didn’t want them finding out - I am feared greatly within my pack, within my own world, and I try hard to keep my reputation, as it keeps peace between my pack, and the surrounding packs, no one dares mess with he who challenges the Gods and comes out alive, despite being believed dead amongst them, despite this, I am actually a bit of a romantic, and I long for nothing more than a mate to rule along side me, to show the side that the world has never seen. I’ve been nesting for months so I know that moment is near, my house looks like one of those damn “coupon queen” stashes I’ve seen on reality tv my younger sister watches, doesn’t sound very badass right? - I step farther into the woods, and I smell something delicious, my wolf is starting to stir, I can feel him aching to be released, he’s talking to me but I can’t hear what he says, my mind is only on that smell. Following my nose I round behind a giant oak tree and my foot hits something, I try to stop my other foot landing on it so my whole 350lb 6’5 body tumbles to the ground. I turn and glare at whatever had tripped me, but when my eyes fell upon her, my heart started to strain at my chest, my wolf was ripping at me trying to get loose, I could feel some of my bones start to snap and hear him howling in my head, but I was strong I kept control… there at my feet lay the most beautiful creature I had ever seen, absolutely caked in blood and mud, and I couldn’t even tell if she was breathing. I sat up, and leant over her, tearing my T-shirt from my body I ripped it in half, soaking one piece from my water bottle I began to clean her to see her injuries, and I heard a huff of air that sounded like a pained groan escape her. Luckily most of the blood I could see on her body wasn’t from injuries, I could only see a few shallow cuts and one deep one - my wolf wanted to heal her with his tongue, but I was saving myself for my future mate, I couldn’t do something so intimate with another, I am a virgin - my pack thinks I’m a player, they send different women to my home each week, little do they know, I let the women go and swear them to secrecy that we didn’t sleep together - when I have my mate, everyone will know she has been my one and only, but until then - my feared reputation… I tore the remaining part of my shirt into strips and tie them around the wounds on her arms, and the scratches below her knees - she’s wearing armour and I wonder why. I kneel over her and take in her breath taking beauty as I gently try to wake her up.
