Chapter 2: The Cabin

“No I’m not.” “You do what I say. You are leaving with him.” “I’m not arguing, it’s not happening Adam.” As he raised his hand, I sagged my shoulders in defeat. He won. Again. “Fine. But I know you’re using this just to get rid of me.” Warren left the room clearly uncomfortably and shut the door. “You’re so dramatic.” “Excuse me? You’re the whole who’s being ridiculous right now.” “I’ll handle this, don’t worry.” “You don’t love me anymore, that’s why you want me gone. You know it just as much as I.” “We both know love was never in the picture for us. But in order to keep you safe, only Warren and I know where you’re going. You will contact no one but Warren.” “I can’t even tell Hannah or my parents that I…” “No. Be packed by tomorrow morning.” *The next morning: I can’t believe I’m leaving. But at least I won’t be alone, I have a handsome bodyguard with me at all times. It’ll be merely impossible to stay away from him. I decide what to wear to get my mind off of him. I want to look bold so i can get a reaction from him. A knock came at the door interrupting her thoughts. “Come in.” “Ms. Lexington are you…” His eyes travel down my body and a small smile forms across his face. He likes it. BINGO! “You ready?” I nodded. “And by the way..” He stops me in my tracks. “You look very appropriate.” “Appropriate? Come on, you can do better than that. “Sexy. That dress fits you great.” Blushing, I said, “You look quite sexy yourself.” He smiled. “Thanks.” *After 10 hours of car ride and hiking, we arrived at a small cabin surrounded by nothing but trees. “This is where we’re staying?” He nodded. “Is it safe?” “It’s safe, I promise.” “So, we’re going to be alone here all of the time?” “Yes.” Alone time with him in a secluded area sounds amazing. “Let’s go in.” The cabin was a rustic decor that gave it a homey feeling. Not like my home, but I like it. A lot actually. “I’ll start a fire. You can head upstairs and unpack. You must be tired.” “Where are the bedrooms?” “There’s only the master bedroom.” “Where are you sleeping?” “On an air mattress.” Rolling my eyes at him, I couldn’t help but blush. “Please. A bed would be better.” He chuckled. “Probably.” “So you’ll be protecting me from the big bad monsters?” He laughed. “You can put it that way.” Once I’m in bed, I toss and turn for at least a whole hour. I wonder if Warren is having the same issue? I whisper his name as quietly as possible. “Warren?” “Yes?” “Are you still awake?” He laughed. “Yes.” “Since you’re an ex-SEAL, what missions were you on?” “That’s not information I can share.” “Right. Sorry. We’ll be spending a lot of time together, hence why I figured that we can get to know each other better.” “You know everything you need to know.” “Not at all. How old are you?” “Thirty, you?” “Twenty five. Where are you from?” “Nearby, how about you?” “Born and raised in California. Favorite color?” “Black. What’s yours?” “Classified.” He chuckles, making me blush. He has such a nice laugh. Still, this conversation is not getting anywhere. “Would you like to come up here and lay with me?” “That’s…” “Please? I’m so used to sleeping next to someone.” “Okay okay, you got me.” He stood up and laid right next to me, wrapping his strong arms around me. “Goodnight Charlotte.” The sound of his soft breathing is soothing, and it isn’t too long before I drift off to sleep. *Next morning: When I woke up, he was gone from the room. The mattress on the floor had been picked up and I smelled bacon from the kitchen. I took the opportunity to hop in the shower and enjoyed the hot water for what seemed like hours. Once I’m done, I soon realize I forgot my underwear. As I run into the bedroom to get it, I see a naked Warren standing in front of me. “Oh s**t, I’m so sorry.” “Don’t be.” I whispered in his ear. “Throw me a towel, will you?” I nodded and went back into the bedroom and retrieve a towel and handed it to him. Man I wanna see so bad but it’d be so wrong. I put on my robe and looked at him with excitement in my eyes. “Sorry.” God, he’s so sexy shirtless holy f**k. “What?” He realized I was staring at him. “Your shirtless and um…” He smirked. “I get it, you dig my muscles.” I blushed and didn’t say anything. While he showered, I sat down on the couch and turned on the TV. The weather channel was the first thing to pop up and as I went through the channels, I see my face on the screen. What the hell?! Images flash across the screen and soon fade as Evan appears on the screen. “My guess is that by targeting my wife, the shooter was trying to eliminate me from the elections. If anyone has any details on the shooter involved, I beg you to let me know. I just want her home so we can get back to normal and focus on making your lives easier by re-electing me.” I turn off the TV and nearly throw the remote across the room. How dare him! He f*****g uses this situation to increase his ratings! The smug bastard! I try to maintain myself when Warren comes out of the bathroom but he heads into the kitchen, not seeing me. I hear cabinets opening and closing before he comes into the living room. “Looks like there’s no food here, so we have to go into town to get some groceries.” “We?” My mood changes from angry to happy as the idea comes to my head of getting to spend some outside time with him. After seeing that bullshit, I need something to get my mind off of everything. “Of course. We can get some food if you’d like. One of my friends owns a restaurant.” “Is it even safe for me to go out in public?” He chuckled. “I know this place, so don’t worry. No one will even recognize you.” “You sure?” “Absolutely. I’ll keep you safe.” I blushed. “I know.” As he gives me a shy smile, my heart melts. “But if you want to stay here, that’s fine too.” “I want to be with you.” He smiled which made me smile. “You should smile more often, I love seeing you smile.” He blushed. God, why is he so attractive? An hour later, we’re deep into conversations and food. “I think you’re using your job as an excuse.” “I’m not.” “Oh, please. When was the last time you went on a vacation?” “I don’t take time for that. I’m head of security for a reason Charlotte.” He said my name again! I love the way it sounds when it comes out of his mouth. “Besides being in love with your job, what else do you like?” “Reading.” “Reading what?” “Books.” “Come on now, you’ve interested me. What sort do you like?” I asked as I took a sip of water. “Don’t judge me, but romance novels.” I nearly choked on my water. “See? That’s why I was embarrassed.” “You’re always so serious, I don’t see you reading those.” He shrugged. “Just because I’m single now doesn’t mean I’ve never been in love.” “So you used to or are still in love?” “Used to. It was so long ago. We were almost together for four years though.” “That’s a long time.” “It was. Now the only romance I see is novels. I haven’t experienced any of that.” “Oh come on now.” “Charlotte, I’m nothing like your husband. When I commit to someone, that’s it. There’s no one else.” “God, I wish I could have that.” s**t, did I just say that out loud? “You may have not found the right one yet.” “He makes me feel so unappreciative and never cares, no matter how hard I’ve tried to make him happy.” “Is that really how you feel?” “I…” “Is it really that bad?” The look on his face was pure concern, making my heart melt. I shrug. “I’m used to it.” “You shouldn’t.” “I thought it was love then things changed.” “Such as?” “I went to Princeton to be a lawyer. I did great until Adam told me it wasn’t the job for me and I chose him over my parents and best friend.” He shook his head. “Why haven’t you left him? You deserve better? I…” Then he tried to change the subject. “You done eating?” “I…” “I’ll pay then we can leave.” By the time we got back to the cabin, the sun began to set. I tried to ask him questions about his life but he was only giving me one-worded answers or avoiding them. As we reach the porch, I saw a motorcycle parked next to the cabin. “Whose is this?” “Mine.” “How’d you get it here?” “This is my cabin actually.” “Oh, why’d you bring me here?” “You sure do ask many questions.” “And you sure do avoid giving me a straight answer.” “I felt it was the safest place to go.” “I guess you’re right then.” “About?” “I do feel safe.” With you. We suddenly hear something outside. “Someone’s out there!” I whispered. “Stand behind me.” Oh god, did they find me? s**t…
