Chapter 14: Moving Day

“What the f**k?” Rose gasped in shock from the cold water hitting her in the face while she slept. “Wake up, we have to relocate” a female voice snarled in the dark. Rose blinked her eyes a few times to rid them of water, allowing her vision to adjust. A brown-haired woman with a leathery tan stared down at her holding a wooden bar that her chains were attached to. She sniffed the air discovering the woman was a Lycan herself, but she didn’t smell of any pack. “Who are you?” “All you need to know is a New Order is coming, the days of the packs are numbered. Now get up.” The woman jerked the bar causing Rose to scramble to her feet to prevent the silver chains from pressing against her. She was led out of her cell through a solid steel door into a hall she had seen in her dreams on several occasions. The woman begins to lead her towards a set of stairs. Deciding the pain was worth more than being held prisoner, Rose tries to pull against the chains catching the woman off guard she drops the wooden bar.             Taking advantage of the opportunity Rose tries to run, but the chains searing her skin slow her down. Before she even realizes it, the woman has grabbed the bar jerking her to the ground. She let out a squeak from the shock of impact when she makes contact with the cold concrete floor. The woman drops the bar walking up to her side, kicking her square in her ribs causing her to cough up blood. “Holly,” a male voice barks from the direction of the stairs. “Charles said he wants her to remain unharmed.” “The stupid b***h tried to escape,” she called over her shoulder. “He said unharmed. If you can’t handle her, have Jalisa do it.” “I’ve got it,” she snapped grabbing the wooden bar jerking it causing Rose to scramble back to her feet. “You try that s**t again, and I don’t care what Charles says. I’ll rip your pretty little off. Got it b***h?” Without waiting for a response, she returned to leading her up the stairs.              Once they reached the landing Rose’s mouth dropped at who was standing there with two other wolves chained similar to her. She went to say something, but Abel motioned for her to remain quiet. Her wolf Red began to howl in delight at the sight of the mate. Aside from Abel the human girl that Rose dreamt of was also standing there chained. The three were then led down the hall and out a huge set of double doors. Rose hissed at the pain of the silver against her wrist as she jerked her hands up to shield her eyes from the sun. Her eyes had gone sensitive after being trapped in darkness this whole time. She heard Abel let out a similar response. The chain girl cussed the brightness, causing the nine wolves who were clearly not captives to let out a laugh of amusement to their uncomfortableness.         Rose squinted as she felt herself being jerked forward. There was a two-horse drawn wooden buggy that Abel had been chained to the back of, the human girl stood chained to him, and she could see they were connecting her chains to the girls. “Listen up you three,” the male from earlier spoke to them. “Due to some unexpected circumstances we have to move quickly. We have a long travel ahead of us. I suggest you keep up, you don’t or stop walking then well drag you the rest of the way. Ether way the horses don’t stop until I say so.” With that he mounted his own horse signaling for everyone to move out.         Rose sat against the tree she had been chained to when the group had stopped for camp, her longs and feet ached from the walk. The wolves that were holding them captive lay asleep. “Rose,” able called her name through link. “Abel, you have no idea how glad I am to see your face.” “I’m glad to see you too, my love.” “Do you have any idea what they want with us?” “Until today I didn’t know they existed like this. I knew there were more Lycans in the building, but I assumed they were prisoners as well. The wolf in charge has never allowed me to see him, but he has spoke to me. Well, more like taunted me as I lay in my cell. He would often go on rants about how I had to pay for the crimes of my Alpha.” “What crimes? My father has and will always be a noble and loved leader. We have no enemies.” “Rose, look around I don’t what happened to cause it, but its pretty clear Blood Moon does have enemies. If it didn’t, we wouldn’t be here chained to trees.” She bit her lip fighting back tears, she just didn’t understand any of this. “Get some rest you’re going to need your strength; I promise you I’m going to get us out of this.”         The next day they Lycans continued their journey. Rose walked chained to the human girl once more.  Two of the Lycans who she had learned to be named Darren and Stephan chatted amongst each other as they rode their horses along side them. “To think after all these years of hiding out in that asylum Daniel goes and buys the property.” Darren spoke holding his horse’s reins with one hand, twirling a silver studded whip in the other. “Yeah, good thing Charles had already taken the liberty of finding a new spot. But what if they pick up those two scents when they enter the building.” “Charles, has it handled already. He’s been having the human inject them everyday with that potion Marie brewed to keep their scents hidden. He also took parts of her gown with her blood on it and scattered them in woods in the opposite direction just south of Elven territory.” “Genius, that stupid Alpha is going to lead his pack right to their death.” “My father isn’t stupid; he will find us, and he will kill all of you!” Rose blurted out only to be met with the silver studded whip across her back. She screamed in pain, struggling to remain walking. She knew if she allowed her legs to give out, she would pull the human girl and Abel down with her causing them all to be dragged.         In the midst of her stumbling trying to stay on her feet she collided straight into the human girls back. Jerking her head up to see what had caused the horses to stop, she saw that Abel had his feet planted firmly into the ground. Johnathon who was directing the horses kept trying to get the horses to move forward, but it was of no use their strength was no match to Abel’s. “Hey, cut the sit.” Darren called out raising his whip. “Keep your f*****g hands off of her,” Abel growled. “Or you’ll do what?” Stephan spoke sarcastically. “Don’t forget lover boy you are still chained with silver restraints and severely out numbered.” “If you touch her again, I will rip your f*****g head off.” Rose let out a yelp as Darren struck Abel with the whip. He hit him over and over again, but Abel never made a sound. He stood there never budging, not even when the whip began to draw blood. “That’s enough!” Johnathon roared from the front of the buggy. “If yall are done goofing off we need to get moving. Well have to keep going through the night to make up for the time we’ve loss.” “When Charles is done with you, I’m going to kill you personally.” Darren snarled inches from Abel’s face.             They walked for seventeen days before coming to a stop at a village hidden deep into the woods. “Where’s Charles?” A black-haired woman asked standing in front of the entrance to the village. “He’s tending to a matter dealing with Blood Moon and sent us ahead. We need to take refuge here for a while, Marie.” “This was not part of the deal, I agreed to help only because Charles paid a good price for my potion. I did not agree to be a part of the war. Do you know what they will do to my people if they find out I was involved in this?” “Like it or not you’re already a part of this war. Daniel knows a witch is involved, he just happens to believe it to be Ruby or Terriza. Let’s face it if he ever discovers the true witch who aided the Lycan that kidnapped his daughter, you’ll need us more than we ever needed you. Now step aside.” “There’s an old barn towards the back we haven’t used in a while you can chain them up there.” Marie spoke as she stepped to the side allowing them to pass.         Rose felt like an animal in a human zoo as she walked through the center of the small village. Her chains clinked together witch each step, Witches and their children came out of huts watching them as they passed. They were taken into an old barn that rested against the tree line, the smell of must and abandonment filled her nose causing her stomach to turn the moment she stepped in. “Welcome to your new home fuckers,” Holly snarled as Stephan and Jalisa began to unchain them from one another. They were each dragged into a horse stall to be chained to the back wall, Darren stood with his whip ready to strike at first sign of trouble. “Stephan and Holly have first watch,” Johnathon ordered once the three prisoners had been secured. “That’s bullshit,” Holly argued stomping her foot. “Maybe next time you’ll think before you break one of Charles’ orders.” He smirked as him and the rest of the group left.             Rose sat on the hay covered floor, pulling her knees against her chest. (From one cell to another,) she thought to herself. “How are you holding up?” Abel asked her through the link. “I’m okay. How are your wounds?” “They sting like hell, but I’m okay.” “Abel?” “Yes, doll face?” “Are we going to make it out of here.” “You will, I promise you that. If I have to die for that to happen so, be it.” “Abel, promise me we’ll both go home one day.” “Get some rest doll face, at least tomorrow we don’t have to walk again.” She laid back on the bed of hay. “He doesn’t know it, but you will both make it out of here. We have great things to do.” Red spoke from within her head. “How do you know?” “It is the reason I and Goliath are yalls wolves. Our destiny has already been written by the Goddess.”         The next morning Johnathon entered the barn banging a triangle. Rose groaned as she lifted herself from the barn floor. (Do they ever wake anyone up in a normal form,) she thought as she stretched her sore muscles to the best of her ability without causing the chains to press to much into her skin. Her wrist was starting to scar from the long-term exposure to the silver. “Our host has informed me that, we have to earn our keep around here like everyone else. Lucky for us we just happen to have brought equipment to keep ourselves from breaking our own backs.” He spoke smirking over the stall door at her. She gulped not liking the way he was looking at her.          An hour later rose found herself standing in the heat of the sun with a plow attached to her chains, Jalisa stood with a whip in hand. “Yall are not seriously expecting us to work as farm animals?” Rose snapped not caring if there was a punishment at this point. “Look toots, We all answer to somebody. You answer to me, and I answer to Johnathon and Johnathon said he wants you to plow the fields.” “I thought yalls precious Charles didn’t want us harmed.” “He said we couldn’t kill you, he never said we couldn’t make yall work. Now get to work, the longer you take the longer I have to sit out here with you.” “You’re not like the others,” Rose spoke taking her in for the first time. “Look you don’t know the first thing about me, just because I don’t care to walk around swinging a whip all day doesn’t mean I’m not like them. We’re all part of the same cause. Now get to work before I do use the whip.”         The sun was setting by the time she was allowed to stop pulling the plow behind her. Abel and the human still had not returned by the time she was being chained back in the stall. She hoped Abel didn’t have it as rough as she had. She slowly laid her sore body onto the bed of hay and closed her eyes. She was nearly asleep when she heard the clink of chains, sniffing the air her eyes shot open the moment her nostrils filled with his scent. “Are you okay?” she asked quickly through the link. “I’m fine just tired,” he replied, exhaustion evident in his voice even through their mate link. “What did they have you do?” “Then better half of the day I dragged logs from the woods, and then I had to chop cut it all into firewood. What about you?” “They had me drag a plow in the fields like a jackass. Where’s the human?” “I don’t know they took her after they took you. Let’s get some rest, I’m sure they’ll have more for us to do tomorrow.” “You’re right.”             The next morning Johnathon woke them the same way. Rose looked towards the stall that the human girl had been in noting that she had never been returned the night before. (God, I hope she’s not dead.) Over time it came to be routine. Johnathon would walk through beating the triangle every morning for what Rose and Abel guessed to be his own amusement. Jalisa would take Rose and Stephan would take Abel to perform what ever job they wanted them to do for the day. She did how ever learn that the human was luckily still alive. She had been chained in the kitchen to work cleaning and cooking. She guessed since they no longer could keep her locked in a building, they couldn’t trust her not to try to run off.             While Rose despised the Lycans who held them captive. She was thankful if she had to deal with any of them it was Jalisa. She didn’t know what it was, but Jalisa just didn’t seem like the rest. She didn’t even seem to belong with them. Everyday she would stand there with the whip in her hand, but no matter how much Rose complained or worked slowly she never used it. It’s like she didn’t have it in her to be cruel. She would bark commands and threaten, but that’s it she never acted on any of her threats. Rose started to wonder if she could use Jalisa to her advantage, maybe just maybe she was their ticket out of there.
