Fast Recovery

Where am l? And what happened to me, why am I bandaged up like this? Charles asked the strange man in front of him with little strength and in a very low tone. It wasn’t obvious to anyone yet that he had lost his memory as a result of the fatal accident he just survived. “Hello, I’m Dr. Alfred Martinez, the director of Gomez Hospital and the doctor in charge of your health. You were brought in by one Mr. Ethan and was admitted here in my hospital for the past three Weeks. When you came in, you were seriously injured and your case was very critical”. “We had to operate on you with immediate effect because you were losing so much blood when you arrived”, Dr. Alfred continued. “Can you remember what happened? Mr. Ethan said you were involved in a hasty car accident and you were the only one in the vehicle. We didn’t find any ID when you came in so your registration process is still pending and incomplete”. Charles stared blankly at the doctor without saying anything. He motioned for another glass of cup. “Ah” He grinned while waiting for the water. He did try to recall any past events but his memory was blank. What a strange thing. He couldn’t remember his name, why he was involved in a car accident, or what family background he had. When he drank the second glass of water, he fell unconscious for the first time since he woke up from a coma. With the proper training Nurse Brittany had, it took her a few minutes to resuscitate him using the defibrillator. Nurse Brittany was worried about the current situation but Dr. Alfred seemed to understand what was happening to him so he didn’t press further. “Let’s leave him to rest for a while. He has been through a lot these past few weeks”. He then signaled Nurse Brittany outside and gave her orders to keep a keen eye on him and update him immediately if he said anything. Meanwhile, back at his office, Dr. Alfred was worried about Charles. While he was operating on him, he discovered that Charles had a mild traumatic brain injury amidst other serious injuries he sustained. It was the most serious injury he had suffered in the car accident. His worries during the operation were that even though the operation had a 50/50 possibility of being successful or not, Dr. Alfred was afraid he would have huge side effects if he were to live. ****** Some days later, in the morning, Charles was seen comfortably sitting in his hospital bed. He is now full of energy and is recovering at a very fast rate. His body was fully wrapped in gauze and bloodstains were seen on the gauzes on his head. Knock Knock Knock Nurse Brittany entered his room with his daily medication. She was seen smiling sincerely. Her attire would be said to be more elegant than usual; a perfect size of a ponytail hairstyle shifted and tied at the back of her head, a shining scrub top inside of her scrub jacket. Her pants were new and neatly ironed. A silver colored watch is seen on her left wrist and a good deal of comfortable closed-toe shoes are seen too. With these, you can say she’s one of the most elegant nurses in Gomez Hospital. ‘Hey Mister, How are you feeling this morning?’ “Brittany, let’s leave the formalities. You’re the one that’s been taking very good care of me since I came in here. You can simply call me, Charles. He chose that name earlier because no matter how hard he tried or the matter the medicine he was prescribed by the doctor, it seemed impossible to remember his past or any information about himself. He heard how good Nurse Brittany was treating him and how others abandoned him when it seemed there was no hope left for him to survive Doctor Alfred. “I’m feeling better today. You’re looking good and happy today. What’s the good news? Nurse Brittany smiled, “Well it’s nothing new. It’s a new week and I had a good impression of this week when I woke up this morning. I’m here with your daily medication. Can you sit up? Let’s get it done with.” Nurse Brittany immediately changed the topic because she was feeling a little bit shy. “Okay, go ahead,” Charles replied as he sat upright in his bed. Charles has recovered at a very fast pace in the past few days. He now walks freely around the hospital building without the aid of any instruments. “The doctor said you will be getting discharged tomorrow. Your treatment is fully covered by now. Do you have anywhere to go? He simply nodded in negative. As an adult, the government wouldn’t do much to take care of him. So Hearing this news, Charles felt his worries since he woke up from a coma is coming to reality so soon. He had been worried about how life after his stay in the hospital would be. No family members had come looking for him and no case of a missing person from the police department seemed to match him. Now he would have to start life afresh. He didn’t see a way around this but he didn’t let anyone even Brittany know about his worries. He would always be by himself and wouldn’t say much to anyone. Nurse Brittany grasped what was going on with Charles. She felt pity for him and Immediately decided in her heart to help him in any way she could. Fortunately, there was an opening for a cleaning service in the hospital. The last cleaner was a young woman, she got married recently and quit her job. Brittany heard about this job opening from one of the staff while she was coming in today so she thought it would be a good idea if Charles could work as a part-time cleaner in the hospital while looking for other opportunities.
