Meg's POV
The corners of the manor corridor were shrouded in layers of shadow.
The enormous crystal chandelier overhead was clearly lit, yet it seemed unable to drive away the chill here.
I tightly clutched Kael's suit sleeve, my gaze sweeping around the unfamiliar surroundings in panic.
"It's too dark here, Kael."
I lowered my voice, making myself sound even more afraid.
"I don't like it here."
Kael, however, did not look at me.
He merely raised his hand and gestured to an Omega servant waiting nearby.
"Arrange a room for Miss Shaw.
"She will stay here temporarily from now on. If she has any needs, she can speak directly to you."
After saying that, he turned to leave.
My heart tightened, and I immediately stepped forward and grabbed his hand.
I looked up at him, my eyes filled with tears, while my other hand gently covered my flat lower abdomen.
"Kael, please."
I softened my tone and begged in a low voice.
"Stay with me tonight, okay? I'm really scared.
"Stacy also wants to get familiar with Leonardo.
"And our pup... It already misses its father."
I knew far too well what method could tug at his heart.
In the dim light, Kael's tall body stiffened in place.
For a moment, he seemed to hesitate.
But in the end, he still did not turn back.
Instead, he forcefully pulled back the hand I was holding, without the slightest warmth in his movement.
"There are still some Pack matters I need to handle."
He left those words indifferently.
Then the Alpha walked away without looking back.
I knew I could not stop him.
The heavy wooden door clicked shut, completely cutting off everything outside.
I removed the frightened and timid mask from my face and began calculating in my heart.
This guest room was extremely luxurious.
Smooth silk curtains, exquisite imported furniture—every corner displayed wealth and status.
I knew very well that Olivia had once walked through every corridor here, and had once possessed all of this glory and luxury.
"What a useless Luna."
I walked to the full-length mirror, raised my hand to smooth the wrinkles in my skirt, and murmured to myself, "Olivia, you will never beat me."
This child was my pass into Auris Pack.
As an Alpha family, the Foster family valued bloodline inheritance above all else.
As long as this pup was born safely, they would have to accept me and open the doors of this manor to me.
As for that old lady in the manor and the other wolves, whether they hated me or were hostile to me, I did not care at all.
I gently touched my lower abdomen again, absolutely certain in my heart.
Kael's POV
I sat in the study, staring at the stack of documents in front of me.
A young Omega maid walked in with a terrified expression, trembling all over, and placed a cup of black tea on my desk.
I picked up the delicate bone china cup and took a sip.
The next second, I immediately frowned.
The tea was so bitter it was almost impossible to swallow. It had obviously been brewed for too long.
"Absolutely terrible."
I said coldly, setting the teacup heavily back on the desk.
"Where is Mrs. Molly? She knows my taste."
The Omega heard the anger in my tone and shrank back in fear.
"Mrs. Molly... she has already left, Alpha."
I narrowed my eyes slightly, my tone turning even colder.
"Left?"
"She... she left with Luna... no, with Miss Astor."
The maid answered in a stammer.
"She left together with Miss Astor."
A surge of anger suddenly shot through my heart.
I asked in a low voice, "How did Olivia leave?"
The Omega lowered her head and said quietly, "When she left, it was raining outside. I only saw her standing at the door, as if she wanted to walk straight into the rain..."
I instantly fell silent.
After hesitating for a while, the Omega carefully added, "But... I know an Omega who works at Starveil Pack. She said..."
She paused, as if she could not bear to continue.
"What did she say?"
I had to urge her.
"She said Astor Manor held a grand party last night."
The Omega hurriedly finished speaking.
"There was champagne and music. It was specifically to celebrate Miss Astor leaving 'the Toxic Mate.'"
The last few words were almost inaudible.
Leonardo roared in my mind.
It no longer obeyed my control, and even began fighting me for control of the body.
Black wolf fur sprouted from the back of my hand.
"Toxic Mate?
"You actually called the mate granted by the Moon Goddess toxic?
"Stupid, we're going to find her now! Now!"
"Quiet!"
I roared and forcefully seized back control of my body.
The timid Omega had already retreated to the corner of the study, trembling in fear.
"You may leave."
I waved my hand, and the wolf fur on my arm slowly receded.
The Omega lowered her head and hurriedly ran out of the study.
I leaned back against the chair, my jaw tightly clenched as I tried to suppress the emotions surging inside me.
I clearly remembered how Olivia had looked that day.
Her face had been deathly pale, her eyes full of despair, her whole body looking as if she had completely broken down.
But now, she was actually partying to her heart's content and celebrating it?
I picked up my phone and opened the werewolf internal communications network.
My thumb paused over the search bar for a moment.
In the end, I still typed in her name.
The network quickly brought up one of her public posts.
In the photo, Olivia stood on a balcony, wearing a stunning custom-made gown.
She held a glass of champagne in her hand, her smile bright and captivating.
The caption had only one sentence, simple yet glaring: Dump the toxic mate and embrace a new life!
My anger mixed with Leonardo's roar, surging together in my chest.
How dare she?
How dare she provoke an Alpha?
When she had first become Luna, she had been gentle and dependent on me, wishing she could stay with me twenty-four hours a day.
Even when she left me, the heartbreak on her face had not been fake.
But why, in less than a day, did she look as if she had been completely set free?
Thud, thud.
Thud, thud.
Heavy, forceful tapping came from the corridor.
It was the sound of a cane striking the floor hard.
Again and again, the dull sound echoed with oppressive authority.
The next second, the study door was suddenly pushed open.
An ancient and powerful aura rushed toward me, forcing even Leonardo to take it seriously.
My grandmother, Sara Foster, strode in.
She was dressed in a well-tailored white suit, her entire presence sharp and full of pressure.
"You actually still have the nerve to sit here in peace?"
Grandmother scolded me harshly.
"Grandma."
I stood up.
"Don't call me Grandma!"
She immediately interrupted me sharply, fury surging in her eyes.
"I was gone for only one week, and you rejected Olivia and brought that Omega who doesn't know her place into this Pack?"
She raised her cane and pointed it straight toward the door, her tone forceful and resolute.
"Drive that wolf out of the Pack! Immediately. Right now!"
I suppressed the emotions surging inside me and said, "Meg is pregnant."
Grandmother froze in place, her eyes full of shock.
"What did you say?"
The next second, she looked at me even more angrily.
"You are truly a fool!"
She scolded me in fury and disappointment, "You have no idea what kind of wolf you drove away! She would have been the strongest Luna Auris Pack had ever had!"
She turned and walked to the window, quietly looking outside, her expression heavy.
"I went to Astor Manor."
Grandmother's voice gradually calmed down, but it carried endless coldness and helplessness.
"Alpha Voss would not even let me through the gate. He said his daughter suffered every grievance in Auris Pack, and he would never allow such a thing to happen again. Otherwise, he would declare war on Auris Pack."
She slowly turned back to look at me, her gaze as hard as iron.
"Listen to me carefully."
She said each word clearly, her tone solemn and powerful.
"If that child is truly yours, the Pack may reluctantly acknowledge that bloodline. But Auris Pack will never accept an Omega who uses offspring to seek status."
After saying that, she turned and walked toward the door, then stopped at the doorway.
"In my heart, the Luna of Auris Pack can only be Olivia."
Grandmother did not look back at me.
"You are the Alpha. Clean up this mess yourself."
As her words fell, she raised her hand and slammed the door shut.
A loud bang exploded in the silent study and struck hard against my heart.
Leonardo fell silent, refusing to speak to me again.
It seemed that it agreed with Grandmother as well.
For the first time, I felt lost.
Had I really chosen wrong?
Olivia's POV
As the core bloodline of Starveil Pack, the Astor line controlled the entire territory of the Pack.
At this moment, the stone gate of Astor Manor cast a long shadow in the morning light.
Our black sedan slowly stopped by the roadside.
Through the tinted glass window, I saw the people outside.
A group of reporters from various packs were waiting at the gate.
Like hounds that had smelled meat, they could not wait to dig up new gossip for the werewolf world.
I casually put on my sunglasses, covering my eyes.
A dark leather handbag rested in the crook of my arm.
Father looked worried and leaned toward me.
"Olivia, if you feel unwell..."
"Dad, I'm fine." I interrupted him and touched up my lipstick with a small mirror.
Then I snapped the mirror shut with a crisp click.
"I've never been better."
"Good." The usually stern Alpha Voss revealed a faint smile. "That is my heir."
"Dad, it's time for the show to begin."
The driver opened the car door.
The noise outside instantly rushed in.
"Miss Astor!"
"Look this way, Miss Astor!"
"Were you driven out of Auris Pack?"
"After you severed ties with Alpha Kael, will the alliance and resource exchanges between the two Packs be affected?"
"Can you talk about Miss Shaw? Sources say she will become the next Luna of Auris Pack."
...
Questions after questions smashed toward me like dense bullets.
The frequent flashes were also so bright that they made everything before my eyes turn white.
Alpha Voss's face turned livid. He took a step forward, ready to release his Alpha aura and suppress the group of reporters.
But I did not need any protection at all.
Before Dad could act, I had already stepped straight out of the car.
Without the slightest timidity, I held my head high and walked into the chaotic crowd.
The sound of shutters rang nonstop around me.
After standing still, I let Maya surface.
Facing the chaotic crowd, Maya released a piercing aura that instantly swept through the entire scene.
That pressure, no weaker than any Alpha's, spread out with a boom.
The noisy crowd was immediately intimidated, and the scene became mostly quiet at once.
I looked straight into the nearest camera lens and spoke calmly.
"There is one thing I need to clarify." I lowered my sunglasses slightly. "No one ever drove me out. I simply finally came to my senses and chose to leave on my own."
A wolf wearing glasses raised his hand and asked, "Do you regret rejecting the mate granted to you by the Goddess?"
"I believe that since the Goddess gave us the ability to reject, it was to give us a chance to start over." I said, "During a long wolf life, we are bound to encounter some bonds with terrible taste. But that doesn't mean we must be forced to stay entangled with everything terrible for the rest of our lives. We have the confidence to walk away, and we have the courage to begin again."
"Then don't you resent her?" Another reporter shouted a question. "It was an Omega who stole your Alpha."
"Please." I made sure my smile was gentle enough.
"If an Alpha's heart can be so easily shaken by an Omega, it only proves that he has no willpower of his own and no sense of responsibility as a mate. Besides..."
I deliberately paused, making sure every camera was focused on my face and making sure they could record every word I said.
"If someone is desperate to carry away two hundred pounds of useless deadweight garbage from your side... Believe me, darling. All you will feel is relief."
