Kiera Pov
I had just started running the twenty laps around the cabins when Beta Trey came down to get me. He had already had my sister taken up to meet the Alpha in his office so I knew that was going to be bad. They always grabbed her first to talk to talk to us about our dad. They learned if they didn’t, I would run and grab her to hide. I didn’t want to deal with anything to do with him anymore especially since my panic attacks just got better.
“I am sick of talking about our sperm donor.” I growled following a laughing Beta Trey. “If my dad has gotten released, I was going to lose my s**t. You will be the first person I choke out.”
“Always so violent. This is why I like your sister better.” Beta Trey didn’t even look back as he spoke. “I am not sure what it is all on but I do know no one was released lately so cool your jets.”
I could tell he was full of crap on at least knowing what was going on but I would wait to take my anger out on the Alpha. He was the one who saved us and knew the most about what had happened. After our sperm donor almost beating us to death and making it so we couldn’t shift until a year after getting our wolf I believed he deserved to be given the same treatment. Alpha Argus agreed and even wanted worse but the council stepped in demanding to take his case. All of them were male and didn’t care to listen to females without a leading position in the pack. I dreamed about throat punching them weekly.
“Knock, Knock.” I waited outside Alpha Argus’s doors even after he said for me to enter. If I ran now and didn’t get the news that means it isn’t real, right.
“Get in here, Kiera.” The alpha commanded and I opened the door to see a few of the pack sitting by my sister who had a scared look on her face. I rushed in and gave her a hug.
I whispered that he would never touch us again and I would do whatever I needed to in order to keep us safe. She shook her head yes and continued to sob on my shoulder until the Alpha cleared his throat.
“Kiera and Kymbre, I have some good and bad news.” Alpha Argus’s face was cold and serious sending my throat to the bottom of my stomach. “Your father passed his evaluations and has been deemed safe enough to let go. I have no idea how he did it when he hasn’t shifted to his wolf in years. The good news is that the council approved his relocation to another pack when he is released. He denied the offer and has decided to become a rogue. It will be a few days before he is released.”
“When will he be released?” I could feel my chest starting to feel heavy and my breathing become erratic.
“It will be a few days if not a week. The council wants to handle several sentences on the same day.” Argus sounded pissed which helped with the heaviness of my chest.
“What do we do when he is free? Free…” Kymbre’s body was shaking, so I held her closer.
“Like I said before he won’t ever touch you again.” I growled ready to find the council and show them some of the things we went through so they could see our sperm donor deserved death.
“We will all do our best to keep you both safe. Even if he is a rogue he will be watched for on all guard shifts and if we even get a hint he could be close you will be protected 24/7.” Alpha Argus growled his wolf pushing forward to agree with him. I could see the truth in the Alpha’s eyes and the agreement in the other male wolves around us.
“I think it might be better if we no longer called him father. That is his last claim on us and it is time we get rid of anything to do with him including his title. What do you say, sis?” I looked away from the Alpha to see what my sister thought about it and she nodded her head with a smile.
“Yes. He is now just Samuel or douchebag to us.” Kymbre laughed as soon as it was out of her mouth and we all followed. It was a relief laugh that we needed. The alpha stood up to speak again.
“Sounds good to me. I also agree with calling him Sperm Donor like Kiera does. It rings with truth.” We all laughed at that too.
“Now I know Kiera trains with the pack for the max hours.. and don’t think I don’t know about the extra training you do on the side.” He gave me a side eye so I looked away like I had no idea what he was talking about. “I think you need to train Kymbre. You don’t have to do the max hours but do enough that if you have to fight for your life against your father you can get away to safety.”
The Alpha looked at her waiting for an answer and she nodded.
“We have made the warriors aware of what is going on but just enough so they keep their eye out for him or anything shady that we need to be aware of. For now just make sure to pay attention to your surroundings and try not to go out too late.” Beta Trey warned us as he walked up to the Alpha’s desk.
“Ok girls. Last thing we have Alpha Kane along with his Beta and some warriors visiting next week.” Argus was speaking to the room but Beta Trey and Alpha Argus were staring at me with expressions that didn’t seem too friendly. “Many of them have not found their mates so all mate less females that are old enough to have a mate will be having a special dinner the night they arrive. I need to make sure you two will be there.”
My sister nodded with excitement and then everyone was looking at me waiting for an answer. It wasn’t that I hated the idea of a mate or that I was against that type of love. It was that if I had a mate I couldn’t join the royal guard because females were raised to take care of their mates and that is not what I wanted out of life.
“Kiera?” The alpha pressed for an answer.
“I would prefer not to in all honesty. You know I am not ready for a mate. I want to be a part of the royal guard and also some of this sexist b.s you all put on us to go away.” I whispered the end because I knew some of the males hackles would rise but it was the dang truth. I even heard Bert whisper in the back that I would never be a guard anywhere and I needed to learn my place. He was gonna learn my foots place in his ass if he kept up his shitty ways.
“Kiera, I get that. And you would make a great guard but having a mate is our fated way and that love will be more important than any dream you had before.” Beta Trey spoke from experience but he wasn’t the one who gave up their dream. It was his mate so he had no idea how it would actually feel.
“Are you kidding me? If he was my fated mate in all ways he would understand why I want it and he would help me achieve it.” I could feel my anger rising and overcoming my anxiety. “He wouldn’t keep me shackled to the kitchen to cook, clean, and reproduce while he gets to do his dreams. We all know it’s the truth so don’t deny it.” I glared at the Beta and Alpha knowing they knew what it was like to shackle their mate. The Alpha’s had died in childbirth so who knows if she would have been able to go about life as she pleased after giving birth but the Beta’s wife was still kicking and taking care of his every need. What about hers?
“Don’t glare at me, Kiera. I know that it is a load of crap for us males to expect you all to give up your lives and times are changing.” Argus glared at his Beta and at Bert but only the Beta seemed to feel embarrassed. “If your mate won’t agree with what you wish there is always rejection but remember it is extremely rare to get a second chance.” He cringed at the rejection word but it was the truth.
“Fine I will go but so help me Goddess if one of them is my mate and tries to stake claim instantly. I will whip his ass in front of everyone with a smile.” I felt a bit giddy at the idea of doing just that.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am still in shock you aren’t a Beta’s daughter or an Alpha’s with all the strength and sass you have. We may have to put you to the test to find out your true rank. But for now the meeting is adjourned.” He smiled and held the door open for us to leave.
