CHAPTER 1
Isabella Moretti’s P.O.V And there I was, going through the mails and seeing all the unpaid loans. It was really scary, but I needed it to pay for my mom's hospital bills. But it was definitely not enough, and I don't think I can take any loan again. I had to leave my job because of the last attacks. It affected the place, and they had to let go of their employees. I can remember how it was: I was in my office, about to give my boss his coffee. Then, all of a sudden, I heard gunshots and bombs being thrown. I was scared at first, but then a man ran into the building. Immediately after he did, the building exploded. We had to rush out, only to find the office engulfed in flames. That's when I saw my mom on the floor, bleeding. It instantly reminded me that she said she was coming to my office to take me out. Tears rushed out of my eyes as I saw her like that. I screamed for help, and my colleagues came rushing. Together, we took her to the hospital. When we got there, she was rushed in for treatment, and I had to wait outside, filled with worry. Shadow dances menacingly, whispering secrets of the unknown. Goosebumps rise on my skin, and my heart races with a mix of anticipation and trepidation. Then the doctor came out, and I immediately ran to him. "How is my mom?" I said, sensing worry around him. "She is fine," he replied with insincerity. "But..." I said, fear creeping into my voice, as it was obvious that he was not sure "She lost a lot of blood, but she is fine and stable now. However, she is in a coma," he said, looking like someone in a hurry to go somewhere. I was extremely happy when I heard she was fine, but the coma part hit me hard. "Can I go see her?" I asked, but it seemed like the doctor had already left. A nurse came to tell me that I couldn't see her today. She advised me to leave and take care of the hospital bills. I thought to myself, I hope the bills aren't too expensive because I really didn't have it all." I left for the reception to pay, and I met a woman who was extremely beautiful. From her looks, she is probably 5'11. "How may I help you?" she asked with a beautiful smile. I could see her nice dentition, which reminded me of my mom and how her teeth were perfect. "Uhm, I would love to pay for my mom's hospital bill," I replied, thinking if I had enough money for it. She asked for some information, which was already boring me, but I had to listen. "So the bill will be $50,000," she said with a smile. "$50,000?" I replied, fear creeping into my voice. I knew that my monthly salary was $10,000. Then I remembered my savings. I had been saving to be able to get my own apartment, and I should have $60,000. I gave her my card and told her about my savings. Then she mentioned that I would have to pay $2,000 every week for her stay and upkeep. It seemed like she forgot to mention it earlier but rushed to say it before I left. "What?" I replied. I had just spent all my money. Where was I supposed to get $2,000 every week? I didn't have a job to rely on, but I still had $20,000 left from my salary. I paid for the next week and kept on paying for 10 weeks straight, but I still needed more due to the fact that my mom is still in comma. I felt a little tap on my shoulders, bringing me back to reality. I looked up and saw that it was my best friend, Maria. She's been there for me ever since the incident, allowing me to stay in her apartment because I couldn't go back to my mom's. I didn't want to end up crying. She even offered to help with bills, but I refused because she has done a lot for me. "Where did you go?" she asked, knowing that I was lost in my thoughts. "What do you mean?" I replied, pretending not to understand. I hate it when she worries about me. "I've been calling you since I got here. I don't like it when you're lost in your thoughts. I'm here to help you," she said with sadness, moving closer to wipe away the tears I didn't even know were on my face. "It's really nothing. I just need to find a job, and the doctor said mom is getting better. I'm fine," I told her. I had already lost all hope in my mom coming out of the coma, but Maria supports me. It's been a year since it happened. "If you say so," she replied, not sounding convinced. "I brought pizza!" she said, and immediately my mood lifted. She knows I love pizza, and she tries to bring it every week to cheer me up. "What's that?" I noticed a flyer at the back of the pizza box. "It's probably nothing," she said, sounding uninterested. I took it and saw that it was a job vacancy for a waiter/waitress. I was happy that finally, I could get a job. Hope started coming back. Maria saw that I was happy, and she smiled. She looked at me weirdly and said, "No! You're not going now. It's raining heavily." "But this is the opportunity I've been looking for. I can't just not go because of rain," I said, emphasizing the rain as if it's nothing. She tried to stop me but before she could, I ran out and the cafe was a 30 mins walk from the apartment, I was going to walk it because I really didn’t have money for a cab. I walked the rain-soaked streets and my eyes darted nervously, always watching my back. When I got to the cafe, I realized that I was soaked. I can't go to an interview soaked. So, I decided to stay beside the AC of the cafe to dry myself. As I looked up to check around, my eyes went to the corner. I saw a man wearing a black suit, which looked extremely expensive. Our eyes met. His eyes were blue and sexy. In that moment, something shifted. The world around us seemed to fade away as a connection sparked between us. It was a dangerous attraction, one that could ignite a fire we might not be able to control. He stood up and came to my side, asking, "Why are you staring at me?"
