2. It's just business

1220 Words
*David's POV* Jordan was talking about numbers and something specific about policies but all I could do was stare at Angelica... I caught her looking over at us occasionally but she never would hold eye contact with me. It just seemed like it was only the two of us... the rest of the world faded away. Well, that was until Jordan brought my attention back to him. "So? What do you think, Mr. Thompson?" "Have Angelica call me. I need to compare some notes first." "Sure thing... Is there anything else I can help you with?" "That you can do? Probably not. That she can do? Most definitely. Good day, Jordan. Please give Angelica my phone number." I got up and left the room before he could say anything else. Angelica must have noticed my presence as she looked up at me as I approached her desk. Those eyes of amethyst made my heart just melt... and I was known to be cold-hearted. She looked at me like she expected me to say something first but I was at a loss for words when I saw her. My inner wolf just kept saying "mate" over and over again. *Angelica's POV* Mate... He's our mate...  My inner wolf would not stop... the moment he stepped into that office she has been stating those words over and over again. I honestly wished she would stop as it was making it quite hard to focus on my work and Jordan was not a very forgiving man. I tried everything to focus on client calls and emails but I couldn't help but look over at Mr. Thompson occasionally. I wanted to get closer to him and well... do things that are very unbecoming for an engaged woman... I was working on another "were" contract when he approached my desk. He just looked at me and my inner wolf was screaming over and over. I had to keep things professional... I just didn't know if I could with him standing so close to me. His scent reminded me of freshly cut grass. I always loved that scent. I sat and looked up at him. Waiting for him to say something. "I look forward to hearing from you soon, Angelica." "I'm happy to be of service, Mr. Thompson." "Oh please Angelica... Just call me David..." "As you wish, David. Is there anything I can help you with at the moment?" "Just keep smiling, Angel... and try to have a good day." He smiled and winked at me as he turned and left the office. I couldn't help but blush. I hadn't realized I had been holding my breath. Once he left my breathing returned to normal. I could feel I was in trouble. There was always a reason for me to be in trouble. A felt a smack to the back of the head.  "You slut... you are already engaged to Seth! What did you do to get him so attached to you? You cost me my sale! Now if it goes through, it will be your sale!" "That would make Seth happy though since you pay him everything I earn..." "Don't get mouthy with me! You're lucky you are still in this pack... I still cannot believe you won't marry Seth... You have 2 weeks to marry him or you are out." I know my jaw must have been on the floor as Jordan merely shrugged his shoulders and walked away stating, "it's just business." I sighed as I gathered contracts, my laptop, and set my phone to forward my calls to Jordan. I left him the contracts I was drawing up for some potential clients and got the ones for David Thompson. Luckily today was Friday so after my meeting with David, I could go to the lounge and get ready for my performance tonight. Seth hated me going there but sometimes he would be sweet and come see me sing. Not usually but sometimes it did happen... I did stop in Jordan's office to make sure he knew I was gone for the day.  "Just close the deal. If you fail, don't bother coming back in on Monday." "Yes, Alpha." I hurried to my car and took a few deep breaths. David had an aura about him... he was also an alpha. Jordan was my alpha though... and I was an omega playing messenger... what did David want with me? *David's POV* "A Miss Angelica Emerson is here to see you, alpha." "Thank you, Bambi. Please bring her here. There is much to discuss..." Bambi was a bit taller than Angel but compared to Angel, Bambi looked like a mere child with her lack of curves. I hurried to straighten up my desk. I didn't want her to see just how much she could shake me. I definitely needed to keep my composure... I wanted more than anything to have her as my mate... I just didn't know how to get her away from her fiance... Before I could get too far lost in thought, I could smell her...   "Well hello Angel, thank you for meeting me on such short notice." "I'm happy to be of service. What can I do to help," she asked with a smile. Oh, if she only knew what that smile did to me... her smile... her voice... everything about her made me go crazy! I wanted to take her as mine... I needed her to be mine... but first to gain her trust... "Well, I am clueless about insurance. Would you mind explaining it better to me what exactly all of this means?" "Of which policy," she said with a slight smirk. "Well, the business I understand enough to know I was being ripped off. The same with my home, I do not understand what an umbrella would do as far as insurance goes or this 'were' policy Jordan was trying to sell to me." "The 'were' policy is my doing. I kind of created it. The umbrella just goes over everything. It's like having a backup policy in case of a lawsuit. The 'were' policy is meant in case of rogue attack..." Angel went into further detail about each and every policy I had and compared everything for me. She made tweaks and even saved me the money I was looking for. However, I couldn't help but shake this feeling that something was terribly wrong. Everything about Angel spoke the truth but it felt like she was hiding something. *Angelica's POV* "He signed the papers Alpha. I agreed to the deal. I even managed to sell a couple of extra policies to him too while looking over his current contracts." "Hmm... maybe you are not as inadequate as I expected. Deposit the check on your way home." "I'm on my way to the bank now. I'll bring the deposit receipt in with me on Monday." Jordan didn't need to know about my lounge singing gig. The pack never would support me doing it. The Crescent Moon pack ran Saquita Junction. The Silver Crescent pack ran Marsitown. However, the packs also had an unspoken truce so that both packs could co-exist without any battles. The lounge was actually by the lake on neutral territory. Primarily, mundanes would frequent the lounge. Occasionally, a were may come in but it wasn't that often so I generally felt safe. The owner of the lounge was a great friend of mine (and client). I hurried to the bank, secured the deposit slip in my purse, and headed to the lounge.
